My Laundry Room Smells Like Feet

by HEAB on April 16, 2009

After my early morning client and 60 minutes of Dave Farmar yoga, I met up with the precious Justine at Whole Foods.  I ate this:

Cold & Hot Bar Hodgepodge

Cold & Hot Bar Hodgepodge

I can’t even begin to tell you what all was in this bowl, but it contained enough goodness to require NO salad dressing.  Love that, and it definitely met all Salad Challenge Requirements. :)  Yes, that is tempeh, a soy product.  Fermented soy products don’t bother my stomach like processed ones do.  Thank goodness, because I love that nutty tempeh!

Justine and I then somehow ended up across town at Urban Outfitters.  Oops – don’t know how that happened. :)

We tried on clothes. Justine, I still think you should buy that T-Shirt - so cute!

Another fun day with my fellow Nashville blogger, and Justine, I just love hanging out with you!  Oh, and thanks so much for my Naturally More Peanut Butter.  It will definitely be part of tonight’s dinner.

OK, so I’ve been thinking about my yoga practice, and I realized I’m still stuck in the I need to get my sweat on mentality.  Looking back, I’ve been injured twice over the last 3 months (hamstring and back) with all this intense hot yoga, and I’ve been thinking I should mix in more gentle classes with longer holds and stretching rather than flow flow flow everyday.  Any online yoga suggestions or DVD recommendations?

In closing, I’d like to thank everyone who commented on yesterday’s Going Dairy Free post.  All of you were so supportive, and I’m actually excited about my decision. First off, I’m really hoping to kick my UTI problem to the curb, and secondly, I’m ready for some new adventures in my kitchen.

This week’s experiment…raw cheese made from rejuvelac (sprouted wheatberry soaking water) & sunflower seeds…hence my title.  Can’t wait to try it tonight…along with my new peanut butter…but not together. :)

Anyone else use their Costco HeatDish to make cheese?

Gotta go set up for my next client.  Have a good night and enjoy The Office.

What’s up with Ryan’s hair?!?

I love your dress/shirt. Sassy!

I don’t know what’s going on with Ryan’s hair, but you made me want to start singing, “Ryan started the fiiiiah!”

Can’t wait to hear about your cheese experiment!

Ashley April 16, 2009 at 4:31 pm

What a pretty photo girls :-) Glad you had a lovely meal. It must have been great food if you could go without dressing Heather!

Emily April 16, 2009 at 4:33 pm

Heather,

That cheese set up makes me laugh. I can only imagine what my dad would say if we walked into our laundry room and saw that. He already thinks I’m absolutely nuts!

With Love,

Emily

I’m lovin that WF salad action! I’m a huge tempeh fan, too!

That dress you’re tryin on in the pic looks gorgeous on you! You should go back and treat yourself :-)

As far as yoga…..idk if you can find this near you, but “Restorative yoga” is incredibly gentle and relaxing…perfect to give your muscles a good but gentle stretch. It would be nice to integrate this 2x a week to help ‘restore’ your hard working muscles!!

Have a great night!

Anna April 16, 2009 at 4:53 pm

That dress is ADORABLE on you! I love Urban Outfitters.

VeggieGirl April 16, 2009 at 4:55 pm

Whole Foods goodness!!

Love your outfit!!

Shelby April 16, 2009 at 5:06 pm

Don’t you just love it when salads are amazing on their own…mmm now I’m craving one.

Question: What is a fermented soy product and what is a processed one? I don’t know the difference. I’m trying to cut some out of my diet, but not all.

Cute top!

marafaye April 16, 2009 at 5:33 pm

WF and UO is my idea of a great day :) I’m very eager to hear how your cheese experiment comes out…and if you can make the smell go away!

Alison April 16, 2009 at 5:43 pm

Great outfits! I especially love that dress Heather. I discovered Urban Outfitters a few months ago – I’d never been in one before. What a great store! Do you like H&M too?

Heather Eats Almond Butter April 16, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Alison,
Don’t even get me started on my love of H&M. The nearest one is in Atlanta…4 hours away. :(

elise April 16, 2009 at 5:51 pm

ryans hair is hilarious…and i agree with erica, wf hot bar mess AND urban shopping = FUN!!! what kind of tempeh should i try? i had the lightlife “soy” flavor, but wasnt thrilled…maybe i should try the 3 grain or the flax or one of the others? oh and thanks for the comments on the new apt. im like a proud mom with my baby :)

Heather Eats Almond Butter April 16, 2009 at 7:07 pm

Elise,
I think I’ve bought the Westsoy 5 grain, but I rarely eat the stuff at home. Usually, I just have it at when I’m at Whole Foods. They always have some sort of cooked version on the hot bar. Yum. :)

Susan April 16, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Haha, I have the same heat dish!! My roommate would kill me if I used it to make cheese in the apartment though :P

You’re more of a yoga expert than me, but I reeeeally like the iyengar class I’ve been doing. I’m not too sure of good videos out there, but you should try it! It’s supposed to help your body alignment, plus it feels soooo good on the muscles.

PS You look super cute in that dress!!

Heather Eats Almond Butter April 16, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Hey Susan,
Yeah, my coworker was telling me try an Iyengar class. I’m going to try and find a local class. Thanks! Oh, and don’t you love that HeatDish?!?

Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) April 16, 2009 at 7:27 pm

You look too darn cute! Have you ever tried Yin Yoga. Paul Grilley may have some good DVD’s although I haven’t tried them. Are there any Yin classes near you?

Heather Eats Almond Butter April 16, 2009 at 8:18 pm

Courtney,
Never tried Yin yoga but off to google “Paul Grilley” right now. Thanks for the tip!

Dori April 16, 2009 at 8:14 pm

Ryan’s expression during the “You’re ugly” cheer was HILARIOUS!

Hangry Pants April 16, 2009 at 8:24 pm

And you should get that shirt/dress. It looks super cute on you!

I love a WF salad that is so giant that you can’t remember everything you put in it!

erinbee April 16, 2009 at 9:14 pm

my whole life smells like feet. yum!

orangepop April 16, 2009 at 9:49 pm

…..so why does it smell like feet?! lol I didn’t get that…
I hope you bought what you’re wearing from Urban- you are ADORABLE-gah! Can you adopt me?! Please?! haha yum tempeh!

Heather Eats Almond Butter April 17, 2009 at 3:55 am

Hey Orangepop,
My homemade cheese experiment = feet smell…and it’s REALLY strong this morning. I think the husband is going to nix this one. :)

Elizabeth April 16, 2009 at 10:39 pm

You look so cute in that picture! I hope you bought that top/dress!! Have you tried yogadownload.com? I love their hatha classes..along with some others of course! Good luck again with the no dairy!

Heather Eats Almond Butter April 17, 2009 at 3:54 am

Hey Elizabeth,
I have tried yogadownload, and I liked it for a quick 20 minutes here and there, but I’m such a visual person. I wish they offered video instead of just audio. Do you ever get confused about which pose you should be doing?

FoodsThatFit April 17, 2009 at 1:44 am

Heather-

I tried the MyYogaOnline.com and really liked it. It was great because it is actual video, not just audio, which was good for me being a beginner. They have TONS of videos with all different types of yoga, pilates, etc. I did a one week trial and then asked to extend the trial and they were super cool about it. Might be something to check out???

Heather Eats Almond Butter April 17, 2009 at 3:52 am

Hey Abbie,
Thanks for the MyYogaOnline.com tip as I know you’ve really enjoyed it. Glad to know they offer audio AND visual. I need the videos! :)

HM April 17, 2009 at 3:14 am

Shelby,

I’m not an expert, but I think the difference is that a fermented product is processed by microorganisms (added or naturally in product), e.g., lactic acid bacteria og fungi. This can lead to the product being more stable (not so easily spoilt), to a change of flavor and often to an increased nutritional value. So, tempeh belongs in this cathegory.

A processed product, on the other hand, should not be full of microorganisms….. but it is processed in other ways like milling, heating etc. Soy milk is thus a processed soy product.

Hope it wasn’t to technical ;)

I wish all nut loving blog readers, and of course our lovely Heather, a good day!

Gina April 17, 2009 at 3:52 am

Sorry I didn’t have any better yoga recommendations!! I hope you get some good advice, because I’d like to know some more sites also.

Oh, and I was jealous when I saw you in a dress…it is totally not warm enough for a cute dress like that here. *Sigh*

MizFit April 17, 2009 at 5:06 am

How cute are you?!

only eclipsed by your post title.

I laughed out loud.

brandi April 17, 2009 at 6:57 am

bah – I missed the office last night! I have to catch up.

I wish I lived in TN – I need a shopping buddy!

Tina April 17, 2009 at 7:01 am

I’m still doing my Bikram Yoga and LOOVING it. I haven’t really tried any other type of yoga so I’m just as curious as you to find out about other types of yoga that are good/fun! :)

Erica April 17, 2009 at 8:15 am

ummm yah, we’re def the youngest too! I was probably at least 5 if not 10 years younger than everyone at the wives party.

Erica April 17, 2009 at 8:15 am

haha

Leila April 17, 2009 at 8:21 am

I hear you on having to get over the ‘get my sweat on’ mentality. I’ve bought a bunch of the Rodney Yee yoga videos and they are great. He has some great 20 minute ones and then some longer ones as well. There’s one that has 5 different 20 minute routines, love the variety so I don’t get bored either.

Diana (Soap & Chocolate) April 17, 2009 at 9:01 am

HAHAHA – definitely not the traditional cause of feet-smell in a laundry room. How ambitious, making your own cheese! Interested to see how that will come out. On that note, I saw ALMOND CHEESE in whole foods the other day. Dunno how it tastes, but since you are heAb and a dairy free heAb at that, maybe worth a try…?

Holly April 17, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Girl, you are rockin’ that dress!! I hope you bought it? (Or maybe by now have gone back to get it?)

This post/title reminds me of the children’s book “Stinky Cheese Man.” ewwwww :-)

AlanMmmm April 18, 2009 at 12:59 pm

You ask for suggestions for gentler yoga. Check out Kripalu, sometimes described as “the yoga of compassion.” http://www.kripalu.org/

The center is in my neighborhood, so teachers are plentiful here. No idea what you’ll find in TN or CO.

They have a “Yoga Break” on the home page.
