Guess That Veggie

by HEAB on May 14, 2009

The goal this morning was my 6 AM Power Latte yoga class, but after 3 hours of Lost last night, I didn’t even bother to set the alarm.  I slept in until 7:15, and it was glorious.  Lots to do today, but I wanted to share my breakfast with you first…

So, I’ve done green:

Spinach Oats

Spinach oat bran with almond walnut butter.

I’ve done purple:

Purple cauliflower oat bran with almond butter.

Purple cauliflower oat bran with almond butter.

Today it was pink:

Pretty In Pink

Pretty In Pink

I made my chia oat bran and taking one of my reader’s advice (Hey Barbara!), I blended in 1/2 cup cooked beets.  I love the sweet taste of beets, and I thought they would be a great addition to my morning oats.  However, this tasted too veggie-like for me.  Loved the color, but I think I’ll stick to my green and purple oats in the future.

OK, much to do and hoping to fit in a 60 minute yoga class before work this afternoon.  Happy Thursday my friends!

Chris left for work just as I sat down to my bowl of pink oats…

CD’s Random Comment of the Day:

Heather Pie, I would kiss you good-bye, but I really don’t want to get that close to your breakfast.  No worries, I blew him a little kiss. :)

Hey Heather! I’ve read your blog a couple of times, but I think I’m going to have to add you to my blogroll so I can see what you post more consistently!

My puppy loves carrots too. I think her favorite thing might be apples though. I’m going to have to try those chia seeds out! Anything to sneak in some extra protein.

Pink is my favorite color but I’m afraid I’d have to pass on the breakfast – I’m not much of a beet fan, sorry you weren’t a fan of the taste! It’s a gorgeous bowl though!! You’re so creative!

Beets is such a good idea. I only think they’re “okay” but I bet their sweetness would be really good with oats. How did you make them – canned or fresh? Did you boil or roast them? I like them roasted in salads.

That’s too bad the taste wasn’t up to par, because it looks sooo pretty! (I’m a secret fanatic for all things pink.) I wonder what colors are left to try. :P

Haha… doesn’t sound too delicious. I have done strawberry shortcake oats with coconut butter, shredded coconut, cashew butter and frozen strawberries.. YUM!!! Sometimes I even add in some dates. Try that one friend = )

How about carrot! ha!

The pink oats are so pretty, but I really don’t like beets. I guess CD was a little afraid of them, too. :-)

Hooray for sleeping in. I love it when I can, and it’s definitely worth it!

Hope today was productive!

Sorry the beets didn’t work out in oats, but try them in hummus! I love the bright pink it turns and it’s delicious. I love beets.

I think I’ll have to jump on the Heather+Polly train of green oats for breakfast one morning. Maybe tomorrow?

Heather,

Pink is the best color ever. Period.

But maybe tomorrow you should make BLUE oats? With blueberries.

Or you could try orange cauliflower and make orange.

I’m getting visions of a whole rainbow of oat bran concoctions…

Don’t forget to relax! Tomorrow is FRIDAY!

With Love,

Emily

I love oats. I love the color pink. But I don’t think I could stomach and oats/beets combo. It is pretty though! I don’t think I could be quite as adventuresome with my breakfast as you are. :-)

I’ve never had beets, either! (What’s wrong with me?) :-) They scare me for some reason. But they make for some purty oats!

Yikes, I think I’d be scared of beets in oatmeal. But it looks awesome!
