Protein Packed Day

by HEAB on June 19, 2009

Started off my morning super early with some broccoli chia protein oats with almond butter. 5:30 AM is way to early for breakfast picture taking…sorry.  Then CD whisked me off to the airport for a weekend in Florida with my mom and older brother.

View from our deck.

View from our deck. I am so happy.

Lunch was at GreenWise Market, Publix’s answer to Whole Foods.

Check out the fancy plates!

Check out the fancy plates!

My meal of grilled veggies, salmon, and fresh berries was delicious, just what I needed after a morning of traveling.  I have issues rules when it comes to restaurant dining. I’m very uncomfortable with eating out more than once a day, and my family knows this.  So, they’re always willing to let me choose the restaurant.  Thanks family!  Anyway, after reading about all the healthy eats at Greenwise over at Eat Live Run, I knew it would be very HEAB friendly. We all agreed, it was the perfect spot for lunch. Do you research restaurants before leaving on a trip? I always do as I never want to get stuck eating fast food.

My mom, brother, and I then met up with my aunt, who lives here, for am amazing seafood dinner at Guppy’s.

Appetizers consisted of oysters and calamari.

I ordered the grouper special with horseradish coleslaw and veggies:

I love fresh seafood...Nashville is a little land-locked. :(

It’s been a long day, and I’m so excited about some early morning yoga and a walk on the beach…or maybe some late morning yoga and an afternoon walk on the beach…or maybe a morning walk to get coffee and then some iPod yoga on the beach…well, you get the idea. :)

CD’s Random Comment of the Day:

From our phone conversation earlier this eveningHeather Pie, Einstein and Radley (our pups) are looking out the window waiting for you to get home….broke my heart!  CD, Pups, I miss you!!!!!!

I’m so sorry I interrupted your little vacay with my stupid text today. I’m sure the last thing you are worried about right now is how much squash I bought ;)

I definitely research EVERYTHING before we go out to eat/out of town. There’s nothing worse than wandering around hungry!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

What a beautiful view! When I was in Florida, I searched endlessly for a Greenwise but I couldn’t find any!

beautiful pics! my doggy waits for my dad every day at 5pm for him to get home from work. When i lived at home, it was the funniest thing to watch her wake up from a nap and then walk over and lay by the door for her dad! so cute!

Which coast are you on? I live in the Tampa/Clearwater area and I know ALL the healthy places to eat…let me know if you need any recommendations:) BTW , what is it about eating out that makes you uncomfortable? I ask b/c over the past few years I have developed the same fear? I use to eat out EVERY single night for the first 5 years of my marriage (due to my husband’s job). I was always fit and at a healthy weight and always ordered healthy, but as soon as I we started eating at home (to save money)…weight FELL off me, reinforcing that even when you “request” things a certain way at a restaurant…it never a sure thing…if you know what I mean.Anyway, let me know if you wants some healthy eating out options

Whew! I am SO glad I’m not alone on the restaurant thing. I always research restaurants before I go on vacation somewhere. So you definitely aren’t alone on that front.

I hope you have a good time on your vacation! Tell us all about it when you get home. :)

Oh yeah, and one last thing… I’m off to my first yoga class in 20 years tomorrow morning! Wish me and my tight little hamstrings luck!

Kimberly@Living Free June 20, 2009 at 4:19 am

Oh, How I wish I were at the beach! I LOVE walking on the beach in the early morning. I hope you have a fabulous trip. Your meals look really yummy and healthy:)

Susan June 20, 2009 at 4:39 am

SO jealous of your view!! I’m the same way with restaurants, you’re lucky to have such a nice family! Mine takes takes the “tough love” approach (ie they tell me to suck it up and get over it! :P )

Diana (Soap & Chocolate) June 20, 2009 at 4:42 am

Gorgeous everything! People, food, views, all lovely. :)

And thank you for solving the Greenwise mystery for me. Only after reading this post did I realize I’ve been seeing the word “Greenwise” on various blogs, not knowing what it was, yet not bothering to find out. Now I know! Thank God! ::mops brow::

Erica June 20, 2009 at 5:34 am

Publix rocks! I love their little containers of berries- so tasty!! I hope you have a really great time in Florida.

Dori June 20, 2009 at 5:57 am

The Greenwise Market food looks so great! Your family is adorable, have fun!

Katrina (gluten free gidget) June 20, 2009 at 6:30 am

Fresh seafood is the best! One of the puppies I am dogsitting went home last night. You should have seen how excited he was. It made me feel like a bad “sitter”. Oh well, he knows his real mommy and daddy!

Jillian June 20, 2009 at 6:32 am

Hello dear Heather…
I love this post for the following reasons:

1. My family knows how picky I am when it comes to eating healthy when eating out…so they usually ask me 1st too when going out…so funny.

2. Yoga on the beach…with your ipod…are you kidding me?= freaking awesome!

3. Your family looks so cute, fun and loving…just like you…I hope you have so much fun there!

Hugs my dear…can’t wait to see you this Summer!

homecookedem June 20, 2009 at 6:58 am

That meal from Greenwise looks really yummy!! I wish we had one of those around here. That is wonderful that your family is so supportive. I am very thankful that my mom and dad are always willing to accommodate me when we go out or when I come over for any dinners at their house. My in-laws however… well, that’s a challenge ;)

carolinebee June 20, 2009 at 7:28 am

love that grilled veggie tower! I feel the same way about multiple dining out trips- I think it’s the knowledge that most restaurants cook everything in buttah, aka that’s why it’s so damn delicious :D Have funn today!

Nicole of Raspberry Stethoscope June 20, 2009 at 7:34 am

Welcome to Florida!:) Come over to St. Pete…

Shelby June 20, 2009 at 7:45 am

That view is amazing! I would kill to be there right now!

Maria June 20, 2009 at 7:55 am

Awwww, those puppies are too cute–my dog does that all the time too :) . Florida is so amazingly beautiful. Sigh, I would love to visit there sometime. The food looks amazing too–I love seafood myself :D

Ashley June 20, 2009 at 8:18 am

Heather, I’m like you too. I’m not a fan of eating out too much and I am conscious of what I eat at restaurants. A small part of me is freaking out about how I’ll deal with this when I’m overseas for 3 months. I remember reading that you did a bit of travel? Did you make your own food then?

The salmon looks fantastic!

Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) June 20, 2009 at 8:27 am

Glad you’re having a good time!

The food looks great!

Lara (Thinspired) June 20, 2009 at 8:44 am

I love the family pic, Heather!
I am just like you…I HAVE to research where we are going and the food they have to offer. My family and friends just expect it now, and by the time we get to the restaurant, I haev the menu memorized ;)
I’m glad you’re having a great time, it looks so beautiful!

Jenny June 20, 2009 at 9:07 am

great eats, yoga, walking on the beach.. you are livin’ the fab life girl!

Allie June 20, 2009 at 9:22 am

that picture of the beach makes me long for sunshine and sand! i kind of stress about eating multiple meals out when travelling; i like to make my own food. being able to review and pick the places seems like a nice strategy. relax and enjoy!

ksgoodeats June 20, 2009 at 10:25 am

I ALWAYS research restaurants before trips! I need to know what’s good/what’s bad/what’s vegetarian friendly/etc. I’m a big planner ;)

Gorgeous views! Looks like paradise!! I wish Greenwise was nationwide! There needs to be more healthy places like that.

Enjoy your weekend!!

leslie June 20, 2009 at 10:42 am

yoga on the beach is one of the best ideas i’ve ever heard!

Maddy June 20, 2009 at 10:52 am

Omg! Where are you staying!? I live like 5 minutes from Guppys and actually posted about them a few months ago! Isn’t it fab! I love their calamari and their bread and dip.

Hope you enjoy Indian Rocks Beach! It’s one of the best in FL!

=)

psychoj1 June 20, 2009 at 11:36 am

Gena (Choosing Raw) June 20, 2009 at 4:04 pm

My, but don’t you look beautiful in that photo :)

Anna June 20, 2009 at 4:21 pm

I hope you are having a fabulous weekend in Florida! I am the same way…I have “issues” eating out too frequently, not because of health concerns, but because I end up missing my own lovely creations!!!

By the way, this is Anna, the incoming Vandy student…I finally started a blog! :-)

runningyogini June 20, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Well, I haven’t stopped by in a while, but what a nice surprise! What a view!!! Glad you’re having so much fun!!

Maggie June 20, 2009 at 5:30 pm

Emily June 20, 2009 at 5:45 pm

How beautiful! Enjoy your weekend!! :D

flexyfare June 20, 2009 at 6:05 pm

I just wanted to say how much I am enjoying your blog! I am a Nashville native, but my eating while there was not where it is today. My mom did take us as kids to Sunshine Grocery on occasion. (I don’t think this still is in business). I can’t wait to try some kabocha!

CaSaundra June 20, 2009 at 6:09 pm

Oh man, I looove Florida! This is the first yr in 5 years I haven’t been there–I chose Cali instead. And yes I use healthydiningfinder.com and other resources to research beforehand. Being prepared is always smart!

Scott J in Ohio June 20, 2009 at 8:09 pm

My wife and I always pull up menus on-line before heading to a restaurant. Once there, we always modify everything, too! :~)

Andrea@WellnessNotes June 20, 2009 at 10:02 pm

Great-looking food!

I always try to do some research on restaurants/places to pick up food (often much easier with a toddler) before leaving for vacation. The hardest part are usually the long car rides to our destination. But we have finally learned, and we now always bring all our food for the car ride along.

Have a wonderful time in Florida! Yoga + beach = awesome combination! :)

glidingcalm June 21, 2009 at 2:36 pm

protein packed! my style HEAB, my style. and yes, I ALWAYS research restaurants….esp. when traveling!! hurray for seafood!!!!

Katharina June 21, 2009 at 9:57 pm
