ABU Lovin

by HEAB on June 25, 2009

This morning I did Dave Farmar’s Baptiste Power Vinyasa 60 minute yoga class.  I’ve done Dave’s podcasts several times now, and am I the only one who wants to tell him to shut-up be quiet?  I mean, he just goes on and on, and all I want to do is sit quietly in Pigeon.  Sorry Dave, you’re funny, but will you please stop talking?

OK, so I tried another version of The Shake yesterday:

Pink Fluffy Delight

Fluffy Pink Delight

Let me see if I can remember everything that went into this bowl…

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 TBSP chia seeds soaked in the water
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries (Scott, why I didn’t use a banana, I don’t know – next time for sure!)
  • 1/2 frozen avocado
  • 3/4 scoop Jay Robb’s vanilla rice protein powder
  • 1/2 tsp Xanthan Gum

Topped with way too much crunchy Sunbutter, and I was still hungry after eating this.  I swear my belly is a bottomless pit sometimes!

Last night, I got home a bit late, and ate exactly what I wanted:

Leftover steamed broccoli in ABU soup. :)

Broccoli in ABU soup. :)

I made the most amazing batch of ABU, consisting of 1 cup raw almond butter, 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 1/2 tsp maple extract, and 1 stevia packet.  I then poured drizzled it on some leftover steamed broccoli.  After my broccoli was gone, I sopped up the rest of the ABU with leftover steamed kabocha (about 3/4 of a whole squash)…then thought about steaming another one, but since it was 9 PM, decided that probably wasn’t a very good idea.

Woke up starving but waited to eat breakfast until after Dave stopped talking to me. I tried 2 new ingredients in my oat bran this morning, but you’ll have to tune in tomorrow to read all about it.

Have a good Thursday…and please tell me you’ve tried Emily’s PBU by now.

OH I HAVEN’T tried Pbu yet.
NEED TO….I know it is going to be great….
(to be honest I have been too busy making Dryer lint smootheies…)

I don’t have enough almond butter anymore to make a propper batch… but it’s on my to do list!

PROMISE!

I have been chucking almond butter in my green smoothies though…it’s almost Pbu

and I agree….the whole point to yoga is the QUIET! :)
Happy Thursday

Amanda June 25, 2009 at 9:34 am

I HAVE tried PBU and must say that the only problem with it is that I feel inclined to eat it like yogurt with a spoon — in full batches! I guess I should just make a serving or 2 at a time! And YES! Dave’s incessant talking drives me crazy … I want to yell “shut up!” but that doesn’t really seem on the right path with the whole yoga practice..

joelygolightly June 25, 2009 at 9:35 am

Ok, I may be the only one who doesn’t know, but what is ABU?

Also, I am not a big smoothie fan, but you’re look so pretty I sort of want to try whipping one up! Have a lovely Thursday!

Jenny June 25, 2009 at 9:58 am

buaha I’m thinking about trying to Dave Farmer session today – ive heard he cracks some jokes during it .. i’m curious to see how i feel about it!

Erica June 25, 2009 at 10:00 am

Ok, so broccoli and nut butter sounds like an odd combo, but it is seriously SO delicious! I haven’t tried the ABU yet…I know, I know…gotta get on it ;)

Mrs. Myers @ Eat Move Write June 25, 2009 at 10:00 am

Hm. That broccoli with your PB soup actually sounds like a pregnancy craving lol. But what do I know? I love all things peanut or almond butter, so I probably would like it too.

It sounds like you feel about Dave the way I feel about Denise Austin. I like her videos, but I cannot stand how she talks. She literally cannot go 5 seconds without speaking! GR!

Anna June 25, 2009 at 10:03 am

I have the same issue with Dave! So does my Mom- whenever we do his podcasts together, she is always telling him to shut up. A little chatting is ok in my book, but often he just rambles.

I haven’t tried this infamous Pbu yet, but it’s on the to-make list!

Maria June 25, 2009 at 10:03 am

Haha, Heather we are so alike sometimes. I just posted about the lunch I had yesterday–ABU with steamed broccoli and kabocha (although carrots and hummus were in the mix too). Love kabocha + broccoli + ABU! Looking forward to your next oat bran creation :D

Chocolate-Covered Katie June 25, 2009 at 10:03 am

mmmmmmmm broccoli…

Heather, you cracked me up (what else is new?) when you told me about all the Uncle Eddies in your family! I haven’t seen that movie in so long! Uncle Eddie is hilarious, especially at the buffet :) .

Oh, and may-juh jealous of your make-out session with Mr. Jay. Invite me next time, ‘kay? Too creepy? Oops…

Diana (Soap & Chocolate) June 25, 2009 at 10:11 am

I guess there must be something to having a serious blender like yours because I’ll be darned if anything comes out of my blender looking as good as what ends up in your bowls for breakfast…or whatever else it is you like to blend. :D

Deb June 25, 2009 at 10:18 am

Today I made ABU with coconut water because I didn’t have almond milk. Yum.

Today my shake fluffed up ridiculously huge with the following: Scoop protein powder, Berries, T. PB2, Xantan Gum, Lots of frozen rhubarb, Guar Gum, water and Ice and dash almond extract and Torani Sugarfree PB flavor. Crazy huge. Must have tripled in size with all the air whipped in the Vitamix. Hope your next shake fills you up more!!!

Jennifer June 25, 2009 at 10:21 am

Have not yet tried the PBU but plan on doing it very soon. Think I will draw the line at mixing it with brocoli. Heather, sometimes your flavor combos are pretty wild! Not sure I could go for that. haha.

Maggie June 25, 2009 at 10:22 am

Yeah! I used to enjoy his witty banter with, um, himself, but now it just bugs me. Whiiiich is why I keep doing my own yoga. I’m going to try to make either a video (<10 minutes) OR a podcast (maybe longer?) this weekend and post it. Cuz I'm really liking my routines.

Gah, must try PBU.

I totally steamed half of a kabocha at 11:30 last night. I did not need it at all but it was delicious.

Lara June 25, 2009 at 10:33 am

Does the xantham gum have any taste?

ksgoodeats June 25, 2009 at 10:36 am

I can honestly say, I would have NEVER thought of eating ABU/Broccoli. I’m pretty intrigued though! What doesn’t go with nut butter?!

Alice June 25, 2009 at 10:46 am

HAHA! The Dave Farmar comment! He’s a riot but you’re right, sometimes I think, “Really? Are you still cracking jokes? I laughed the first time, isn’t that enough?”

CoconutGal June 25, 2009 at 10:56 am

I guess I better get on the ball with Emily’s ABU, huh? Sounds too good to be true, esp the addition of maple syrup… nummy!!
I’m taking a chance and guessin’ there was some Coconut Bliss in your oat bran this morning? Kabocha-Bliss Oat Bran?!? (even if it wasn’t, it sounds like I better try that– yum!!)

Scott in Ohio June 25, 2009 at 11:00 am

Frozen bananas with the nut butter in your shake are going to make it like ice cream! Be sure to include lots of cocoa powder, too! It’ll be awful. (-:

brandi June 25, 2009 at 11:56 am

i love the fluffy pink delight ;) I haven’t tried pbu or abu because I haven’t bought almond milk in a while. it sounds great with the broccoli + squash, though.

Michele | aka Raw Juice Girl June 25, 2009 at 12:20 pm

I’ve never tried ABU or PBU!!! :-(

I’m on a 30-day juice fast right now, but when I’m eating solid foods again, I’ll have to try them both!! Can’t wait!! And I loooooooooove my broccoli so I’ll definitely try it poured (er, drizzled ;-) ) over that!!
:-)

ABU…genius! I need to get on the PBU/ABU hype because almond milk and nut butter..what else could I eva need in life?

psychoj1 June 25, 2009 at 1:22 pm

I actually really like Dave Farmar, but I can understand why you feel that way. There are some brief moments where I feel that way, but for the most part, I love his jokes and talking when I’m in a hard pose. I especially like it because he reminds us to breathe.
ABU sounds yummy!

justine June 25, 2009 at 1:55 pm

Ok, Im curious as to what 2 new things you tried in your oats. I feel like you have tried everything. Whats left, fish? Dog doo?? I need to know!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha

Gena (Choosing Raw) June 25, 2009 at 2:03 pm

I am so psyched to try ABU!!!

glidingcalm June 25, 2009 at 2:07 pm

i loveeeeeeeeeee broccoli with nut butters!! i just had it yesterday!! it is soooo tasty!!!

and how do you like xanthum gum? i was talking about it with mama lovin and may have to pick me up some!! does it really make it thicker?!

polly June 25, 2009 at 3:14 pm

okay, broccoli with almond butter? hmmmm. OKAY HEABS, I TRUST YOU.

Hi lovey!! I love the pink. Yes, frozen nanners are just like ice cream, aren’t they so yummy? When I am trying to stick to one naner a day… can that be one FROZEN one and one RAW one room temp oozing almond butter. I am thinking that sounds like just ONE nanner to me. ;)

Hugs to you my sweet friend. Happy Thursday… thankful for YOU! :P

livingfreeforever June 25, 2009 at 3:22 pm

Can’t wait to see what else you came up with for your oat bran:)

Guess what? I found unsweetened sunbutter–yeah me!! And, of course I HAD to go get more kabocha today. My daughter laughed and said as long as I have spinach, sunbutter, oatgurt and kabocha–I’m good to go! She’s right:)

Have a good evening!

Erin June 25, 2009 at 3:33 pm

I’ve eaten so much ABU. I looked at the jar and I was a little scared. But not really. It goes down soooo easily.
I love your combos of food. Crazy, but just like I like ‘em.
I don’t like Dave Farmar podcasts, he is too chatty and the sound quality bugs me. I don’t like being irritated while doing yoga!

Shelby June 25, 2009 at 4:37 pm

Thanks the reason I don’t do his podcasts! I just need some peace! haha

I’m buying almond butter just to make Abu, it looks so darn good!

Emily June 25, 2009 at 8:04 pm

I have the same issue with Dave. I like his classes, but I do get frustrated with the chit chat sometimes.

I never thought of freezing avocado. That’s such a good idea.

Holly June 25, 2009 at 8:08 pm

So I’ve never done a DF podcast, but I totally want to now. I’m going to giggle my head off when he doesn’t shut up, though. :-)

And brocoli + AB sounds just “different” enough for me to love!

Ashley June 25, 2009 at 9:03 pm

I made Pbu but then realised after the fact that I really dont like PB that much at all – I need to make Abu!!! I’ll get onto it today, I think.

I’m also going to try your shake Heather. It looks fluffy and delicious. Yuummo :-)

broccolihut June 25, 2009 at 10:34 pm

Broccoli and almonds? Sounds good to me:)

yogiclarebear June 25, 2009 at 10:47 pm

no you are NOT the only one! one class i did once (baptiste) had us in a great shavasana for like 3 minutes, then all of a sudden…he decides to start doing a guided meditation. i was like WALSDJFAOWEIJFWOJ! wake me up why dont you!

LOL!

Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) June 25, 2009 at 11:17 pm

Guess we don’t need to worry about that Blogger Summit anymore, huh? ;)

I haven’t tried the ABU. Dang it. Nuts are so hard to combine with this Natalia Rose thing. Dang it again.

Tina June 26, 2009 at 3:49 am

I haven’t tried PBU yet, sorry! I will have to try it soon though. Don’t have a lot of PB left right now and don’t know when I’ll get more since I tend to overdose on it. haha

Hanna M. June 26, 2009 at 5:05 am

I made a big batch of ACPbu (Almond Cashew Peanut) yesterday with some vanilla and cinnamon, YUM! Fortunately, I got to do this before the blender bowl exploded….. No blender :( Time to buy a Vitamix?? :)

Katharina June 26, 2009 at 6:07 am

My stomach was a bottomless pit the other day as well. NOTHING would leave me satisfied – not even beans! Heck, they didn’t even make me gassy.

One of these I’m going to try some PBU. The broccoli reminds me of a perfect pairing – broccoli with peanut sauce.

Ooo I wonder which ingredients you’re going to surprise us with! :)

Susan June 26, 2009 at 7:22 am

Check! I am in total Pbu heaven now! LOVE it!!!

Deb June 26, 2009 at 7:30 am

Some days my stomach is also a bottomless pit, vortex, bermuda triangle, black hole…you get the idea. Happens to all of us I think!

Tiffany! Van June 26, 2009 at 3:44 pm

I love that you still ate the blended oatmeal! I do that all the time when I bake something disgusting and I still try to eat most of it! Haha.

Kyle June 26, 2009 at 5:33 pm

Ok, maybe I’m stupid but what does the u in ABu stand for?

I tried this today – I’m in FREAKING LOVE. I steamed some broccoli, made 1 serving of ABu (in a small condiment cup whipped with a fork, otherwise I’d eat the WHOLE BATCH) and poured it over….lets just say that I’ll be eating alot more broccoli now.

God Bless you and the inventor of PBu. Although I must say I used to always do that with peanut butter for dipping apples…I didn’t think it was a big deal, I just wanted more dip and less calories. I should have shared it with the world!

Hangry Pants June 27, 2009 at 9:50 am

Overall I like Dave, but I hate when he counts and says a number several times like 3, 4, 5, 5, 5. It’s not cute.

Kristen's Raw June 28, 2009 at 11:44 am

I can relate! I have many times that my belly is a bottomless pit. I’d swear I have a hole in it. LOL

Cheers,
Kristen
