My Guilty Pleasure(s)…

by HEAB on June 27, 2009

Yesterday, I did the 60 minute Forrest Yoga class from YogaDownload. (Remember you have until June 30 to receive 50% of all classes at YogaDownload with the promotional code HEAB).  Forrest yoga = burning quads.  Wow, talk about some long Warrior holds.  My legs were on fire, but I really enjoyed this class.  There was no flow action, but a good deal of core work and focus on breath.  Good stuff!

Later in the day, I met a friend at Baja Burrito, the coolest little burrito shop and probably one of my favorite restaurants in town.  Now, coffee with cream is my #1 guilty pleasure, but chips are a close 2nd.  Y’all, I love tortilla chips.  I love them so much.  However, you will rarely see them in our house because once I start eating them, I can’t stop.  Yesterday’s lunch:

Salad piled high with veggies and guac and a basket of chips on the side.

Salad piled high with veggies and guac with a side of chips.

I hated it:

So, if you’re ever in Nashville with a craving for Mexican, please call me…just don’t expect me to share the chip basket…or the guac. :)

After Thursday’s Heat the Salmon Butt breakfast, I decided to give xanthan gum and guar gum another chance, and they totally redeemed themselves in last night’s dessert.

Green Monster Ice-Cream

Green Monster Ice-Cream

I can’t believe how creamy this tasted.  So delicious.  Into the Vita-Mix went (yes, we made up):

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 scoop Jay Robb chocolate rice protein powder
  • 3 handfuls of frozen spinach
  • handful ice
  • 5 drops dark chocolate stevia
  • 1/2 tsp xanthan gum
  • 1/2 tsp guar gum

I love the gums and their thickening abilities, and many thanks to reader Deb for suggesting I try them.

OK, off to a new yoga class called Bliss Yoga, 2 hours of deep core openings based on the principals of Svaroopa yoga. Don’t ask…I have no idea, but I’ll tell you all about it later. :)

Be sure to check out Faith’s informative post on the great milk debate.

Oh my goodness in heaven, green monster ice cream! I’m so making this, just hope my less than Vita Mix blender will survive the ice!

xoxo

wonderful yoga site. have you done the yoga with weights? I think that one sounds really good; I love to workout with weights, only way for me to really burn fat.

girl i had no idea you loved baja so much! I haven’t been there in ages! I can never choose between going there or to calypso down the street… Actually, I think the last time I had baja – I was pregnant with maddie (which i couldn’t get enough of it then!) Maybe I need to make a visit SOON? :)

Bliss yoga sounds interesting… can’t wait to hear about it

Gena (Choosing Raw) June 27, 2009 at 2:06 pm

This looks so delicious, my dear!

Melanie June 27, 2009 at 2:10 pm

That Green Monster ice cream looks AWESOME!! How fabulous!

The Fit Collegiate June 27, 2009 at 2:32 pm

My Lord, that restaurant looks AWESOME. Expect a call from me next year, and we can munch on some tortilla chips ‘n guac together. :-)

Diana (Soap & Chocolate) June 27, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Yeah homemade ice cream. Now is the time! Just finished reading Gena’s post about banana “froyo.” All this after I brought home a carton of ACTUAL froyo. Oops, moment of weakness. Ice cream is my ultimate kryptonite, after all.

Shelby June 27, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Green Monster ice cream?! Delish!

Enjoy your yoga =)

cottchz June 27, 2009 at 2:53 pm

polly June 27, 2009 at 2:58 pm

oooooh ice cream!!! :D

I just read Gena’s post about banana ice cream and of course I am thinking… “how yummy almond butter would be drizzled or glopped on top?” I know you know what I mean, my friend.

Have fun at YOGA!! Tell me all about it, Heabs.

Mega almond butter love day. It goes so perfectly on everything. I almost made green oats with avocado on top tonight, but opted for romaine wrapped avocado snackies and dessert was more fresh picked berries and AB. holy yum.

I think between your love of CHIPS and AB and YOGA… we must be related. Seriously.

Happy weekend!! Hi to CD from D! My poor guy is sick today… hoping feeding him green food will make him look less green. ;)

XOXO

I ALWAYS have a craving for Mexican!

Gina June 27, 2009 at 3:54 pm

Ooh, the ice cream looks yummy!! I am definitely much more of a sweet person that a salty chip person, but it is hard to resist tortilla chips at a Mexican place!

jacobc June 27, 2009 at 4:06 pm

haha, green monster ice cream ;-p
Ice cream is def my vice.. you should make up a big batch and contract with the ice cream van that drives around the neighborhood when i’m mowing yards!
Baja buritto rocks!! one of my fav places, but i don’t go there for salad ;-)
Have a great rest of the weekend, and stay inside- we don’t need any more dehydration scares! I have put down over a gallon of fluid today.. between winning a 5k this morning, mowing 3 yards, and walking around at the fleamarket..ehh killer hot

fartygirl June 27, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Chips aren’t bad food in my book. Besides, there’s so much food out there that we say no to. We gotta give ourselves a break once in a while.

Which is why I’m half an hour from scoring some sweet potato fries. :)

Erin June 27, 2009 at 4:47 pm

Food porn all over the place. At least for me! We have very similar guilty pleasures. Or maybe the same ones. I cannot have chips. Can’t. Disaster always ensues. But I so love when I get them on the rare occasion! And guac. Mmmm.
Your dessert is soooo beautiful! I made an extra creamy creation today and felt a little more like you :) I need to locate some gums for extra thickening action.

livingfreeforever June 27, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Who would have thought that green ice cream could look so yummy! I’m tellin’ ya, EVERY time I look at your blog, I am amazed and leave hungry!

glidingcalm June 27, 2009 at 4:58 pm

BOTH “GUMS” ARE ON MY GROCERY LIST!!!!!!

Mexi is the best summa food! delish!

Mrs. Myers @ Eat Move Write June 27, 2009 at 5:41 pm

Have fun at yoga! I have yoga tomorrow morning, and I’m dreading it. I’m so incredibly NOT flexible. It’s horrible. They tell me yoga will help that. Not so far. lol

psychoj1 June 27, 2009 at 5:55 pm

That yoga sounds fabulous! Mexican sounds super yummy. Guac is so good! Have fun with yoga!
<3 jess

Maria June 27, 2009 at 6:20 pm

That Mexican food looks absolutely delish–definitely piled high with goodies ;) . The green monster ice cream looks fab too, the only problem for me is that I don’t have a vitamix, although I have everything on hand. Maybe I’ll try it with my food processor? Hope you have a great rest of the weekend, Heather!

Kristin June 27, 2009 at 6:40 pm

Oh man. You look like me with my chips. I CANNOT buy chips because I will literally eat the entire bag..in like, 2 settings. My boyfriend always gives me crap about it. And guacamole? Forget about it. Mexican is by far my fave food evah!

Whit June 27, 2009 at 7:25 pm

Glad to see you and the Vita Mix are on again. I tried to make a small GM in my Magic Bullet today and we broke up. The Vita Mix and I are forever soulmates. Magic Bullet will never come betwixt us.

Erica June 27, 2009 at 9:03 pm

Tortilla chips are my biggest guilty pleasure too- I LOVE them. Totally delicious. Josh likes having them in the house so I pretend they don’t exist. When we go out to a Mexican restaurant though…I always let myself get a little out of control ;)

I have a few questions for you regarding Josh’s back and yoga…I will shoot you a note in a little

Kristen (Flexy Fare) June 27, 2009 at 9:36 pm

I love me some Baja Burrito!! :-) Happy Sunday, Heather.

Samantha June 27, 2009 at 10:06 pm

I need to try some GM ice cream. I just bought 2 more containers of plain nf yogurt so I can strain and make some kind of frozen treat. Maybe with some berries.

The new class sounds interesting, can’t wait to hear more!

Tina June 28, 2009 at 3:48 am

Ohh, your green monster ice cream looks so good!

Lara (Thinspired) June 28, 2009 at 3:51 am

I love tortilla chips, too. Is there Chevy’s out in Nashville? They do the BEST chips & salsa :)
The GM ice cream sounds awesome…can you taste the gums at all? I don’t know why but it seems like they might have a weird falvor (just an asusmption, I do not know from experience)!

frenchybelle June 28, 2009 at 6:59 am

GREEN MONSTER ICE CREAM!!!! I’m all over that today!!!!! :) :) Ok… but I see you actually froze your spinach! Does this make it more icy or cold? I never thought of that! yumm!!!!

kailey June 28, 2009 at 7:58 am

sounds like you had a great yoga session :) I just love how relaxing yoga is.
Those tortilla chips are mexican restaurants are so addicting!! especially when they are all warm with the freshly made salsa. haha

ohh that green monster ice-cream sounds awesome! have a wonderful sunday

Heather (be well & take care) June 28, 2009 at 10:39 am

Heather, I am also in love with tortilla chips. I don’t even need a real meal at a Mexican restaurant, so long as I have some guac and tortilla chips. I wish I didn’t love them so much, but they’re so perfect! I’ve been trying to not bring them into my house anymore since I don’t trust myself around them. Your willpower is what I strive for!

And if I find myself in Nashville, I think I will have to meet you there. Holy yum!

kaneil June 28, 2009 at 12:48 pm

I’m so jealous! Please tell me you enjoyed some pineapple salsa!?! Definitely in my top 3 fave restaurants in nashville…it’s a close tie with Calypso. :)

Kaneil, balanceisbest

yogiclarebear June 28, 2009 at 10:56 pm

wow that green ice cream looks supah! what brand of chocolate stevia do you use? ive found NOW foods brand to be super…thick? but the “Stevia” brand i like a lot.

Ashley June 30, 2009 at 12:46 am

Ohhh, I’m trying that green monster ice cream for sure! I use xanthan gum occasionally but never guar gum. What’s the difference between them? I think I need to get me some of the guar.

And Heather, I’m totally coming to Nashville for a few of days in September! I’d love to try your amazing lunch if you’re at all free!

ttfn300 June 30, 2009 at 7:06 pm

oh no you didn’t… i want that goddess ice cream :)
