Banana Lovin and Jay Robb Savings

by HEAB on August 20, 2009

Yesterday, I used the Wii Fit in our yurt.  The first time I Wii’d the following happened:

  1. I learned I cannot hula-hoop to save my life.
  2. My push-ups are only Couch Potato worthy.
  3. I discovered my kick ass talent for running in place.
  4. I was so sore that I could barely walk the dogs the next day.

Didn’t do any more Wii for 10 days…until yesterday.  It’s almost creepy how much that machine remembers about you, but it’s a great workout.  I improved all my scores, and I’m not nearly as sore today. Anyone else out there Wii?  I know Deb is a fan.  Oh CD…I think I have another investment idea for us. 😉

Afterwards, I made a smoothie WITH a banana. No berries included.

Huge Smoothie In A Bowl

Huge Smoothie In A Bowl

Oh my gosh, this bowl was so filling and surprisingly delicious.  The mix included:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 head romaine lettuce
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 packet stevia
  • 2 TBSP chia seeds soaked in the water for 15 minutes
  • 1/2 tsp. guar gum
  • 1/4 tsp. xanthan gum
  • 4 – 5 ice cubes

Try the banana/romaine combo.  So light and refreshing.  The gums made it really thick and creamy, not icy at all.  For questions about the gums, I refer you to The Smoothie Girl, my gums pimp.

OK, who wants to save on Jay Robb online orders? Been thinking about ordering some rice protein powder for yourself? Well, time to get on that!

I love love love my Wii. I got the Wii Active and LOVE it. Don’t have the Fit, but maybe one day. I am also excellent at running in place, despite the fact that I hate (and really can’t) run at all. Thanks for the Jay Robb coupon!

allijag August 21, 2009 at 9:03 am

Oh you sexy Jay Robb… 😉

Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too) August 21, 2009 at 8:12 am

Oh, Forgot to mention that I think Jillian Michaels has a Wii Fit game coming out and I’ve asked Santa Claus for one. (There IS a Santa Claus, isn’t there!!!??)

By the way, Justine- two comments: YES the XG makes a huge difference- HUUUGGGGGGEEEEE. (you’ll have to find the right amount or you’ll find you have a gelatinous blob if you add too much. But just the right amount is HEAVEN).

Also, you’re right – the scale can be brutal. Especially when it says “Hmmm, seems you’ve gained some weight…why don’t you tell me why you think that is….” and it gives you a huge list of boxes to check off like “eating too much” “not exercising enough” etc! Yikes! Gotta be strong to handle THAT!! 😀

CaSaundra August 21, 2009 at 7:50 am

Love Wii Fit–it really is a good workout!

Justine August 21, 2009 at 7:30 am

Love the Wii Heabs! I always skip the weighing in part though because that thing can be brutal! Love banana smoothies! I have some xantham gum but have yet to use it. Does that little bit really thicken that much? Missin the fire outta you!!

Meghan (Making Love In The Kitchen) August 21, 2009 at 5:42 am

Wii in a yurt seems like such a contradiction on so many levels 🙂

And about your questions from your last post- I to have serious ‘reservations’ about eating at restaurants and I have yet to go hungry. Mine are in part because of what I like to eat and also because of my pepper allergy that covers the outside of my mouth in blisters which is none-too sexy.

MizFit August 21, 2009 at 4:41 am

at first I was SOOOO jealous of everyones wii and now I think had I gotten one it might be sitting in the corner gathering dust.

hard to know.

what do I know? I LOVE the word yurt.

CoconutGal August 20, 2009 at 10:42 pm

I wish we had a Wii! It sounds like a lot of fun. So I had a smoothie today too! You should try my favorite combo– coconut water ~1/2 cup, 1 frozen banana, 1/2-1 whole avocado, 2 TBL chia seed & gel, stevia, sometimes cocoa sometimes not, almond butter (either blended in or blooped in top or usually both!). You will loooveee it. Screw the GI stuff, I tell myself the avo slows down the sugar spike. Love you! xoxo

Annie August 20, 2009 at 10:25 pm

you kiddin’ me Heeather?? you pulverize lettuce, throw in a banana and some gum (?) and water and call it good?? I know I’m new here.. but I gotta give that some thought.. done thinking.. eeeeewwwwwwwwwww.. I think that’s “advanced HEAB”.. I’m just a beginner.. will have to work my way up to that!

I feel like a confessor.. but… never had protein powder.. well, never had it a second time cuz the taste/aftertaste made me want to hurl… again.. beginner HEAB .. will have to work up to it!

Love your blog!

Marycela August 20, 2009 at 10:03 pm

Thanks for the coupon

Rosey Rebecca August 20, 2009 at 8:22 pm

I want a Wii fit so bad!

psychoj1 August 20, 2009 at 7:56 pm

Claire August 20, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Yay!Thank you for the coupon!!

Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) August 20, 2009 at 5:26 pm

I’m so glad you had your nanner and that you loved it! And isn’t Wii spelled “WHEEEEE!” I’m the biggest fattest dork you know.

Samantha August 20, 2009 at 4:50 pm

Thanks for the coupon! Going to make another attempt on a brown rice protein order. 🙂

I miss our wii…it’s supposed to be back to us soon. Long story.

Beth @ CrossBorderCravings August 20, 2009 at 4:04 pm

Thank you for your words of encouragement on my last blog post Heather! It means a lot to have some one who has been there standing behind you :O)

faith August 20, 2009 at 3:54 pm

don’t be xenophobic invite me up!

lessonstolearn August 20, 2009 at 3:21 pm

I love the Wii! My mom got one a couple of months ago and my husband and I had such a good time playing with her. I am a horrible hula hooper. It’s just pitiful! But I’m pretty good at tennis, I found. I loved beating my division 1-playing husband!

I need to check out the guar gum and xanthan gum. I’m intrigued. And maybe I need to check out J. Robb while I’m at it! Thanks for the code!

Susan August 20, 2009 at 3:18 pm

I had to give up the Wii Fit. The tightrope competition between me and my boyfriend got a little too intense 😛

I’ve been wanting to do the romaine smoothie for a while now! Spinach smoothies give me digestion issues (too much spinach for me to digest at once!) but I have higher hopes for the nicer-on-the-tummy romaine…

Steph August 20, 2009 at 1:38 pm

glad you finally went for the banana!

our family has a Wii Fit…it can be fun but it gets a little old after a while. I think there are extension packs/new games which might help keep it entertaining.

Carolyn August 20, 2009 at 12:42 pm

My house is Wii free… so far… but i have heard good things about both Wii Fit and Wii Active…so an investment might have to happen…

Heather can you or anyone else talk about the differences or benefits of either / both…Which would you recommend???

I walk a lot…but my upper body strength leaves a lot to be desired… need to work on that

MarathonVal August 20, 2009 at 12:25 pm

Hey Heather, you won my SpiBelt giveaway! Send me an email with your contact info! 🙂

MelissaNibbles August 20, 2009 at 12:08 pm

I want to try the wii fit sooo bad! I’ve heard nothing but good things about it and it seems like a great way to mix up your workout. Your a lucky gal to have it 🙂

elise August 20, 2009 at 11:55 am

do you think its rude or inapprope to register for a wii for our wedding? (im asking this in all seriousness) i wanna wii fit!!

Shelby August 20, 2009 at 11:52 am

I’ve always been afraid to put romaine in a smoothie but now I’m going to try it!

hayleycepeda August 20, 2009 at 11:35 am

We got the Wii and the W-Fit over Christmas and I love it. Unfortunately it’s been a long time since we pulled it out. Chris and I also got very competitive with the hula hooping. It really bothers me that he is better at it than me. I’m kind of with Mara on this one though – I wish you didn’t have to stop and start the exercises.

Have you ever tried shaking the remote really fast during the jogging one? Watch what happens to your little Mii…it’s funny. 🙂

Tiffany S. August 20, 2009 at 11:33 am

Glad to hear about your Wii Fit workout!

I have never gotten on ours after my very skinny co-worker said it called her by her husband’s name after she hadn’t been on in a while – RUDE!

But thanks for reminding me how fun it could be and what a good workout it is!

Ozlen August 20, 2009 at 11:26 am

Hey thanks for the discount code on JB.. I totally wanted to try the rice protein poder in my morning oats. I am a not a smpoothies person and I need to EAT my calories but I find that the powder adds sweetness in my oats with stevia. Thanks Heather!

Nelly August 20, 2009 at 11:22 am

Thank you so much for the coupon code Heather!!! I love Jay Robb’s rice protein powder! Oh and your smoothie looks deelish.

Diana (Soap & Chocolate) August 20, 2009 at 11:14 am

If you could see me right now, you would see an evil plan being hatched that involves conning the boyf into buying a Wii for aforementioned Fit.

Erik August 20, 2009 at 10:57 am

I Wii it up from time to time.

The promo code looks like a hip hop artist’s name- HD Bloga 9. I might just be utilizing that, thank you very much.

Deb August 20, 2009 at 10:37 am

Hi Heabers! Sooo glad you got back on the Wii, even after all of the PAIN and suffering. But it’s a GOOD pain, right my friend?!! 😀

All that talk about nannerz yesterday sent me running, not walking to the freezer today to take out some of the frozen gems for my smoothie-on-the-go today. I mixed it with choc. prot powder and some PB- yummmmm!

PS. I’m happy to answer any Qs on gums- readers just need to head over to my blog and ask away.

Deb aka Smoothie Girl 🙂

Alisa - Frugal Foodie August 20, 2009 at 10:25 am

I am sooo with you on the frozen banana. Almost essential to any blended beverage!

Metta August 20, 2009 at 10:17 am

I make that smoothie too, but don’t use the gums. It gets pretty thick, but I think that’s b/c I use 1 frozen and 1 fresh banana, and almond butter. So good!

buffmuffy August 20, 2009 at 10:15 am

yar wii is super fun. wii ea sports active is ten times as hard as wii fit though. lol. i was so sore after doing that game that i am scared to play it often.

janetha August 20, 2009 at 9:54 am

heather! go enter your poochies in my giveaway so when i do the post showcasing all the entries yours are in there, because i love their sweet little faces 🙂 and what do xanthan and guar gum do to the oats? xo

Pam August 20, 2009 at 9:31 am

I love the Wii story!! I need to try it.

Christina August 20, 2009 at 9:28 am

I want a wii too!!!

Mara @ What's For Dinner? August 20, 2009 at 9:13 am

We have the Wii Fit and while I love the individual exercises, I wish it would put together a routine or something so theres less stopping… does that make sense?
Thanks for the coupon!

Lauren August 20, 2009 at 9:13 am

My hubby’s parents bought a wii this past winter and everyone loved it! It’s a fun thing to have with a group of people and to have when weather isn’t nice. My father-in-law and I compete in the ski jump! The challenges are a great motivator because I just want to kick that computer trainer’s butt!! Have fun!!

Emily August 20, 2009 at 9:11 am

I’m definitely a Wii Fit fan – even though I’d probably get some serious abuse for having been away for so long. I’m planning to use it a lot when my boyfriend and I move in to our new place. Yessss…. 🙂

Andrea@WellnessNotes August 20, 2009 at 9:01 am

I love your smoothies in a bowl… 🙂

I have always wanted to try the Wii Fit, but I don’t know anyone who has one… And I don’t think hubby would go for the “investment idea” either. But I could try, couldn’t I? 😉

Maria August 20, 2009 at 9:01 am

I have wii too, but looks like I’m going to have to get wii fit. Sounds awesome!

Romaine and bananas? I’ve tried spinach and bananas, and will try that combo next 🙂

Thanks for the coupon!

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) August 20, 2009 at 8:58 am

I just made a green monster yesterday similar to what you made today. I also picked up some guar gum and used it in conjunction with my xanthum gum (which I’ve been a fan of for awhile! yay for XG!) in a dipping sauce I made which turned out even a little thicker with the guar gum so that was cool.

Thanks for the Jay code! For all those CA residents, getting charged 8.75% tax on your order, the 10% discount helps to defer the tax robbery…thank you Heather!!!

Enjoy your Wii, I don’t have one, only have running shoes and my yoga mat 🙂

Erica August 20, 2009 at 8:55 am

haha I have never tried Wii Fit but have heard great things. Glad it gave you a nice workout. I bet your push ups were much better than you’re claiming 😉 Yayy Jay Robb!

Cindy August 20, 2009 at 8:53 am

I have a Wii Fit! LOVE IT..but my little JJ JUST wants to play and it just is frustrating….

I LOVE how it forces you to stand still in the yoga poses

I LOVE the hula! man you feel it later!
well, now that Fall is near, I may have to go break it out!

I have put a lot of miles on my Wii and I hear there is a Wii (acitve???) now?

OH I love the boxing probably the best!

so fun!

Brandi August 20, 2009 at 8:52 am

isn’t the Wii fun? We played ALL day on Thanksgiving this past year, and we were all sore the next day 🙂

livingfreeforever August 20, 2009 at 8:52 am

I’ve been thinking about getting a Wii fit. I get sore just bowling though! Pathetic! I recently got Donkey Kong thinking it would be a laid back kind of game–but NO, I get way too into it and end up making my back hurt from all the punching etc. Good grief! We don’t have TV, so the Wii is our current entertainment:) Definitely a good investment for our family.

Whit August 20, 2009 at 8:51 am

I love the Wii. I am a terrible hula hooper, but I can push up challenge like it’s no body’s business. Plus the tightrope walk champion? You’re looking at her.

VeggieGirl August 20, 2009 at 8:46 am

Looks delish!

Thanks for the coupon sharing! 🙂
