Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
First off, a big huge hug and thank you to Zesty Cook for not only his creativity and hard work but also for his patience with me AND WordPress yesterday. Zesty and I started working together early yesterday morning, and did not get my new blog up and running until late last night. Thanks again Zesty – lovin HEAB’s new look, and I was so excited that Abby’s winning photo made the banner. If you haven’t done so already, please stop by Zesty’s blog as he has so many amazing recipes as well as a ton of helpful tips for bloggers. His How to Take Amazing Food Pictures post is one of my favorites.
Now, onto pie. So, back in my stalking days, I used to woo CD with my raw desserts, or Heather Pies as he liked to call them. I used whatever I had on hand. Sometimes we’d end up with a fruit tart covered in cashew cream, and other times we’d dine on raw fudge with avocado ice-cream. Anyway, after we got married, the wooing with raw desserts stopped. (sorry CD, you know I still love ya!). However, the name stuck, and I became CD’s Heather Pie.
Yesterday, in-between working on the blog, walking the dogs, beating my beeping smoke detector with a hammer, and doing a little massage therapy, I decided I needed to make my husband a pie. I had all the ingredients on hand including one last fresh POM Wonderful pomegranate from my trip to California. I couldn’t wait to get started.
First I made the crusts.

Also diggin the new design.. very almond butter-esque. I enjoy!!
That dessert looks amazing, what a great idea for the crust. I don’t have a Vita but I bet I could wing it with my food processor. YUM. Nice addition to your oat bran too.

I kind of miss pomegranate now… I don’t know… it’s so pretty and sweet! I can’t wait to receive our packages of POM.
oh…. you should submit this recipe to the POM contest! I’ll vote for you
You’re my hero. I am so making this for Thanksgiving. It’s been a long time since I’ve made a raw pie — I’m overdue! Might have to make two or three just to make up for the absence
I don’t know what’s prettier, the pie or your new header!
LOL I almost wrote “Your new Heather”

The Heather Pie is great – well done HEAB!

Wow, that looks great! Yum!
Love the new header!
Love the new look Heather! What an awesome looking pie too
Absolutely love the new look! Great job!
Your pie and site both look awesome!
Great new look for the blog! And the raw pie looks great. I would never think to put soy sauce…does it give a strong flavor?
Erika, Nope, not much flavor. Just adds a little salty kick.
I love the header and the pie looks amazing. I’m sure Hunni wouldn’t even realize that is healthy. I love stuff like that
Ohh I was just thinking about making homemade healthy pie too. Thanks for the recipes and ideas miss Heather.
And props to Zesty Cook for the awesome new layout! Love the header.
Thanks for the recipe Heather!!!! This looks yummyy!!
Gorgeous! Yeah, the nama shoyu threw me too. Would have never thought of it.
You know I love you, but I’m on the fence regarding your new header. I think I like it with the jar OR the almonds but not both. You know I’m nothing but honest – the rest of the site looks AWESOME!
Don’t hate me – I’ll send you dates to make up for it!
Tiffany, No hating from me ever. Thanks for the honesty. No dates required – I’m stocked already, and now I remember why I don’t buy them.
Tiffany, Changed the header again. Let me know what you think.
The new look is so simple and fresh. I absolutely love it Heather!
The Heather Pie looks so delicious! I love how you used the pom seeds!
Adore the new look!
The blog looks great! But the pie, oh the pie…
Love the new look…and Love the Heather Pie! Yummo!
That is so sweet
I love the new look. We call each other “sweetie pie” and “honey bear”. Silly, I know – but it’s funny how nicknames like that always have to do with sweet things or desserts.
Can you please stalk me? I never would think to put soy sauce in pie crust, but I’m going to try it!!! The site looks fantastic.
love the new layout and love love love the pie!!! I’m going to try it for sure!
Mmmmmm that does look yummy!
I made a Raw apple pie and a raw pumpkin pie to sell at the cafe and I got a text last night telling me that they were selling like crazy!
Raw pies are the IN thing right now
Hey HEAB, How long did it take for the crusts to set up? It sounds like the mixture would be soft, but the crust looks quite firm. thx!
Greenbrean, I put them in the freezer for about 10 to 15 minutes – I forgot to mention that. I’ll add it to the post right now.
Your pie looks amazing…love the layers and I love how the crust is raw. I am 90% done of the semi massive undertaking of transferring every single blog recipe I have created into a cleaner but still with pics separate PDF version. A cookbook may be in my future and am getting my ducks in a pdf row
I just stumbled on an old raw vegan choc pie recipe RIGHT before I read this post. Your pie is gorgeous my dear!
And so is your new site! Love it. Seems all the cute girls are re-doing their cute sites with fabulous even cuter final results
I blog directly from blogger. I never could figure out wordpress properly, thus I am a blogger blog but do own my domain. And do it from a mac. So no wordprss or windows cool blogging tricks for me and that’s fine. The 2 software programs I used were costing me tons of time so I scrapped em. Tell me when you get up to speed w/ Ecto what you end up thinking of it!
HPEABs !!!
You’ve even managed to make your commenters look better by making their pictures bigger (right?)
Love the new background color combined with the whole almonds up top
I LOVE the new header and layout, great job!
Also, that pie looks incredible
That looks… AMAZING! And so does your new header
Another hooray for Heather pies!!
xxx

OH! You’re my new favorite blogger fyi
Tyler, I just saw this comment – it was in my spam folder for some reason. Silly Wordpress. Anyway, thanks so much for reading my blog. Your comment made my day.
The blog looks GREAT!
Soy sauce in a healthy pie?! Did you write this for ME?! Salty..sweet…it’s my dream dish.
I love your blog’s new look!!
What an amazing looking pie! Made by a “sweetie” pie!!
Thanks for the reply.
Also wanted to send you this link. Last week’s NYT healthy recipes all involved tahini!
http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/news/health/series/recipes_for_health/tahini/index.html
Greenbean, Thanks for thinking of me – you’re the 4th person to send me the link to those tahini recipes. I think it’s definitely time I crack open a new jar. I also think someone from the NYT has been reading HEAB.
Love the new blog look Heather!! Zesty did a great job :O)

i totally need to make a heather pie
have a wonderful night <3
Love the new header!!! I love your pie too. Looks mouth-watering.
I don’t really know pomegranate. I bought 3 last week. Tonight I opened one. We tasted the arils. It’s great. But I’m wondering if you eat the seeds in the arils? Cause I saw that you put arils on desserts.
Scorpionne, Yep, you eat the entire aril.
oh and I forgot to tell you that I love the new header.
Love the new look! And your pie is just gorgeous too! H00ray!
Love the design. Thanks for answering my questions about soy too. One more question -what about edamame – that’s soybeans right? Is that a ‘worst’ type of soy as well? Thanks! Oh and love the raw pies – they look so cute…I’d stick some ice cream in between them and make a sandwich
oops…
Eatmovelove, Edamame is not a processed form of soy. It’s nothing buy soybeans. Compare that to the ingredients listed on the back of a box of Morningstar burgers. If you choose to eat soy, edamame is a good choice as it’s soy in it’s natural state. Plus, it’s really good dipped in garlic salt. Wish it didn’t bother my stomach!
I think I see a book jacket in the glorious new look and the
Heather Pie!!
Love both–and the name too.
Nice work!! I also approve of the pic of the almond butter
on the right vs. the left.
I had a jar of almond butter in my car for emergencies
today. Then I saw a homeless man standing in the rain.
I delivered it to him. Perhaps he too will soon feel the
love of HEAB!
Dawn, You spread the love of almond butter today, and that makes me happy.
Great new blog look!
And holy god, that pie is amazing! Torture to gaze upon, from a distance
that looks awesome!!!! very creative!
I love the new header, Heather!
I’m such a Virgo! I just couldn’t deal with them both on one side but it looks great now.
*Hugs*
I can’t decide which I like more… the new layout or the pie! (who am I kidding, I have to go with the amazing looking dessert)
Heather, my dear! I love the new blog look…something I would totally pick out for you..and for me!
Also, that pie looks absolutely wonderful! Geez woman…you are talented!
Got through the tough part of the cleanse and am now in the food testing phase, where we get to see the true effects food has on our bodies! I tested soy today and the soy milk, tofu and edemame did great…the homemade miso soup however did not treat the tummy so well…and made me yawn lots! Weird! Anywhoo…more revelation to come. Miss you and hope you are just great.
Hugs!
OMG, I’ve been reading your blog for some time but that cherry pie compelled me to comment. that looks amazing! i must make that.
Jess, Thanks for reading. Yes, make the pie. It was yummy.
Brilliant! Your creativity is boundless! Are you thinkin’ of goin’ raw, HEABs? <3
Farty, Nope, never. Tried the raw thing a few years ago. Not for me, but my love for making raw desserts stuck.
I love the new look!!
Love the newest new header!! ….more feng shui or something with the balance both sides…
Have a nut buttery day…
That raw pie is AMAZING! I can’t wait to try something like that, it is visually stunning and I imagine it tastes even better than it looks!
Voracious Vegan, It’s the crusts that really make that pie. Something about the lemon zest/fresh nutmeg combo. So delicious, and I can’t figure out why I haven’t made that recipe in quite a while. So delicious. Please let me know if you try it.
That crust looks like such a great base for a pie! And of course the filling looks show stopping!
Yummy–do you ship Heather Pies? Lol, just kidding, but it’d rock if you did
Thank you for the answer. Today I’m going to search recipes with pomegranate
And I’m going to buy more pomegranate tonight
I <3 the new look of HEAB! Especially the picture with almonds and almond butter- perfect!
