First Workout of The Month

My arms feel like Jell-O, and my burpees could use a lot of work. 🙂

This morning, I started my month of online personal training with Lindsey from Lean Bodies Health and Fitness. Yesterday, I wrote the workouts would last 45 minutes to an hour, but they are actually only 30 to 45 minutes. After warming up on our stationary bike for 5 minutes, I did some Hyperbolic Resistance Training with a Pulse Pyramid. It basically involved 5 different exercises (reverse lunges, burpees, jumping jacks, etc), each done for 30 seconds. For the first round, I did one exercise for 30 seconds and then rested for 30 seconds. Then, I added an exercise each round until all I was doing all 5 in a row with a rest period at the end of each round, and then I built back down. The entire pyramid took about 16 minutes, but it was intense! I then cooled down on the bike for 10 minutes and did some plank and side plank ab work. Total workout time was 38 minutes. Short and efficient, just like I prefer my workouts to be.

It was then time for breakfast. You know what’s better than oats in a waning nut butter jar?????


Oats in a waning ice-cream container! There was about one serving left, and I poured my cooked oat bran mixed with Jay Robb vanilla rice protein powder, cinnamon, and maca on top of the remaining ice-cream. So Delicious!

Definitely had to look up what a burpee was! I’ve never heard them called that before. Love the coconut milk/oat combo, I had it the other day for breakfast. Its just like yogurt, right? 🙂

Ellen, I have had the coconut milk yogurt, but yesterday’s breakfast was oat bran with the coconut milk ice-cream. Their ice-cream is my favorite! The yogurt is a bit too runny and sweet for my taste.

That’s good that you’re starting to feel better, being sick blows. I’ve been feeling off for the past few days but I’m marking it down as lack of sleep/wacky eating habits.

Wow – as a walker , I marvel at the stuff you do. Amazing Heather.
Oats/cereal + ice cream = yummy breakfast
Now you just need to add MORE stuff…fruits, nut butters, etc etc etc (i could go on and on).
Anyway, ice cream for breakfast sounds great. What is your favorite flavor anyway? The dairy ice creams always have amazing variety to choose from, not sure if you have a favorite in the coconut ice cream. Have a nice night.

Nutjar, Never met a coconut milk ice-cream I didn’t like. My favorite would probably be the chocolate mint flake. I love any kind of chocolate/mint combo. So sweet and refreshing. 🙂

I feel like my burpies need much work too. For some reason, I never think that I am doing them right, until I feel it the next day! 😉

I LOVE the oats in an ice cream container! No matter how cold it gets, I can always eat ice cream, and I bet the hot-cold combo was deeeeelicious!

Okay, you rock – WTG on ice cream for breakfast and with oats?! Yummers. There is always room for ice cream 🙂 …although probably not the amount I consume…how do you like your new routine?? are you motivated by it? i can’t get into any type of strength training …or routine for that matter…blah day(S) oh well…enjoy your night.

Eatmovelove, Day 1 on the new routine went well, and I was excited about trying out a new workout. I’ll be blogging about it throughout the month. I think it’s fun to change things up – keeps me motivated, and I love that the workouts are short but very effective.

That looks YUM. I must admit that I’ve never tried oat bran :/ But I really want to…soon! Heather – what would you say is the best way for me to cook my first batch?

Gracie, I would recommend cooking your oat bran on the stovetop. I usually use 1/2 cup oat bran and 1 1/2 cups water. It will seem watery at first, but just let it simmer and keep stirring – only takes a few minutes. It will get thicker and it’s gets “fluffier” with the extra water. Then add in whatever you usually add to any other hot cereal – any mix-ins or toppings. I usually keep it pretty simple and just stir in some protein powder when it’s done cooking and then let my oat bran cool for a few minutes. It will get thicker. My favorite topping is crunchy nut butter, although it’s pretty tasty with ice-cream too. 🙂

I just can’t do those burpees. I used to try them all the time in my karate classes, but my knees won’t let me do them fast. I can do them if I take it very slowly, but that sort of destroys the point of them.

Tamzin, I usually eat a pretty big breakfast, and although I eat a lot throughout the day, the foods are usually pretty low cal – lots of veggies, proteins, etc.

That sounds like a serious workout! I took a bootcamp class at the Y the other day that had the same format. There were 10 exercises total where we started with one exercises, then jogged around the b-ball court, then did 1 & 2, jogged, then 1, 2 and 3, jogged, 1, 2, 3, 4, jogged, etc…all the way up until 10. It was insane but an awesome workout! Maybe I need to throw that stuff in when I train some of my clients. 🙂 I’ll check out that website!

Glad you liked the pyramid! It usually takes 24 minutes though… Hm. Did you do 1, rest, 1, 2, rest, up to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, rest and then 1, 2, 3, 4, rest and back down?

sounds like a great workout and I’m glad you felt up to doing it. Great idea with the ice cream. I suppose there are lots of “jar” yummies to be consumed, right? Salsa if you want savory oats, ricotta (savory), hummus, etc. Hadn’t thought about it much. Good thinking old bean.
