A Gift From Jay To You

by HEAB on January 20, 2010

We interrupt HEAB’s scheduled post of a full day of eats to bring you this news: HEAB died and went to smoothie heaven this morning

After 20 minutes on on the stationary bike mixed with 15 minutes of strength training and some plank holds, I had a date with Jay.

I had pancakes on the brain, but in honor Smoothie Girl Deb’s birthday, I decided to plug in my Vita-Mix and go to town.

Photo courtesy of Deb’s smoothie partner in crime, Allie. πŸ™‚

Into my blender went:

2 cups water

1 scoop Jay Robb vanilla rice protein powder

1/2 TBSP maca powder

1/3 tsp xanthan gum

1/2 tsp guar gum

Brown sugar cinnamon Frankensyrup…in honor of Deb of course πŸ˜‰

Lots of ice

Lots of cinnamon

The toppings…oh my gosh the toppings were what made this smoothie. In a very un-Deb like moment, I whipped 1/8 cup of heavy whipping cream (oh yes I did) with my little handy-dandy frother and plopped it atop my smoothie-in-a-mug along with more cinnamon and some walnuts. Now I’m freezing cold and sipping on a mug of hot water, but it was worth every last spoonful of that smoothie!!!! P.S. I have a problem with dairy products high in protein, but I’m experimenting with full fat dairy products like cream and butta. More on this topic later.

So, in honor of Deb’s birthday, I have a gift for all of you from the man himself. It’s time to order your Jay Robb!!!!

You guys know I love Jay’s rice protein powder, but back in my dairy days, I thought his whey was the best tasting out there. What are you waiting for? Click here to order, and then click here to go and wish Deb a Happy Birthday! πŸ™‚

Bekah January 22, 2010 at 4:52 pm

hahahahah I got this tweet to my phone Heather and it cut off right after “HEAB has died….” I literally almost freaked out! But then I realized that horrible news wouldn’t be tweeted about. ALSO- love this smoothie in a bowl! And Happy Birthday to Deb. I love that picture of her. And your paint super skills. πŸ™‚

I may just use that coupon for some Jay to be delivered to the dorm. I just may. πŸ˜‰

Brandi B. January 21, 2010 at 12:23 pm

I’m debating whether to try Jay’s protein or Sun Warrior Naturals–any advice since it is rice protein?

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 21, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Brandi, These are my two posts comparing Jay Robb & Sun Warrior:

http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/2009/04/14/rice-protein-smackdown/ http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/2009/04/22/the-war-is-onwant-a-taste-of-the-winner/

Both are great products, but in the end, I preferred the taste of Jay’s.

Lara (Thinspired) January 21, 2010 at 12:18 pm

Thanks for the tip πŸ˜‰ I just roasted the halves with cooking spray and they were too soft πŸ™ I’ll try fries next time!

fitandfortysomething January 21, 2010 at 8:27 am

Naomi(onefitfoodie) January 21, 2010 at 8:15 am

OMG insannneeeee looking breakfast, I hope you return safely πŸ˜‰ never tried maca powder, what does it taste like?? thank you for the jay robb coupons!!

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 21, 2010 at 8:16 am

Naomi, I like the taste of maca…kind of a smokey caramel taste? It tastes really good mixed with cinnamon!

Jillian January 21, 2010 at 7:52 am

My mom introduced me to the royal maca a few weeks ago and I am really liking it! I’ve been putting it in my smoothies and oatmeal as well! πŸ™‚ Hugs…

the dainty pig January 21, 2010 at 7:09 am

I think I died and went to smoothie heaven along with you, just from looking at that photo! oh gosh, so want one of those right now!!

**Lauren (BiochemΓsta)** January 20, 2010 at 10:54 pm

Wow, I need to try that smoothie ASAP!!!! πŸ™‚

Just came across your blog and I think it’s great πŸ˜‰ Feel free to stop by mine sometime and say hi!

elizabeth January 20, 2010 at 10:37 pm

Hi Heather. The smoothie looks delicious! I’m definitely going to try it! Just wondering how often you are changing your workout routine this month? Do you do the same workout for a week? Thanks! Elizabeth

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 21, 2010 at 7:33 am

Elizabeth, The workouts looks something like this: Monday: Hyperbolic Resistance training Tuesday: HIIT Wednesday: Lift Thursday: HIIT Friday: Hyperbolic Resistance training

Lara (Thinspired) January 20, 2010 at 9:41 pm

Just learned something new from the comments section via Deb…1/8 cup is 2T? Who knew?!

Love that picture of her. The first thing I see are her beautifully white and perfect teeth!

I have some maca that The Birthday Girl Herself sent me that I am dying to try!

BTW I liked the kabocha. I think I overcooked it though, hence why I say “liked” and not “loved.” What is your favorite way to prepare it?

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 20, 2010 at 10:10 pm

Lara, Favorite way to prepare kabocha is cut in half and scoop out seeds. Place halves face down and cut into thin strips. Then roast completely plain on a parchment paper lined baking sheet for 40 minutes in a 425 degree oven. YUM!

PeonyJen January 20, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Oh well, it happens. You’re a perfect eater 99.9% of the rest of the week. πŸ™‚
Thanks for sharing…now I won’t bother looking for it at the store. :giggle:

PeonyJen January 20, 2010 at 9:16 pm

What are the ingredients in that syrup? I am not seeing that on their website.

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 20, 2010 at 9:19 pm

PeonyJen, It’s not good…This is not a proud moment for me:* Purified Water, Vanilla Extract with Other Natural Flavors, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (to Preserve Freshness), Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Sucralose (Splenda Brand), and Acesulfame Potassium. *

Paige (Running Around Normal) January 20, 2010 at 7:49 pm

Mmm that smoothie sounds awesome!
Love that you added fresh whipped cream on top πŸ™‚

Danielle January 20, 2010 at 6:56 pm

The smoothie sounds amazinggg

Reigne January 20, 2010 at 5:56 pm

I think I may have died and gone to dreaming about smoothie heaven…. Delish.

Thank-you so much for the discount voucher!!! (No Jay Rob in Aus. :()
For that, you may have my first child. Actually, you may have my aunt’s first child. The last time I checked, her Facebook status was: “Kid for Sale!… Cheap!”

πŸ™‚ Reigne.

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) January 20, 2010 at 4:02 pm

Mae January 20, 2010 at 3:01 pm

Aww thank you, and Happy Birthday to Deb!! I can’t eat dairy either, but the egg white tastes MIGHTY FINEEE!!! It’s so good! πŸ™‚

Laura January 20, 2010 at 2:50 pm

Slightly late, but I thought you might appreciate this comment, and the post in which you asked the question in is closed now… strangest breakfasts (so far!), for me were during my student days- cereal with Malibu/Baileys/water (when I ran out of milk or just felt like the 2 former?!), a chocolate egg (and rhubarb crumble yogurt)- somehow convincing myself that this equalled having an ‘egg’ for breakfast, therefore a balanced start to the day, or if I ran out of EVERYTHING but… well it was a bowl of plain pasta- or cooked in egg if I had one. Don’t you miss student life?!

erintakescontrol January 20, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Heavy cream??? GASP! πŸ™‚

Anna January 20, 2010 at 1:55 pm

lol, yum! Thanks for the coupon! That smoothie looks divine πŸ™‚

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather January 20, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Yay for the birthday smoothie! Toppings make the meals πŸ™‚

Rachel January 20, 2010 at 1:46 pm

Wow, that really does look good. I’ve been thinking about doing some protein shakes/smoothies, and maybe I’ll try this brand of protein powder.

Katie January 20, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I have that same frother (1.99 at IKEA!), but didn’t even think to use it for cream…oh, the possibilities. I was just thinking about trying some Jay, too. How timely; thanks!

Cindy January 20, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Heab..I have read that PaNu site cover to cover….and I am even more resovlved now to eliminate sugar and not worry about the fats. (not that I was) and even not sweat an egg (or two)

thank you thank you thank you.

Can’t wait to hear about your thoughts on cream! I am off to buy some today.
and a big happy bday to DEB

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 20, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Cindy, I’m impressed. PaNu is not easy reading material. Interesting stuff, huh? I highly recommend the cream atop a smoothie. πŸ™‚

Scott in Ohio January 20, 2010 at 12:41 pm

Funny…you had a Deb-inspired smoothie and I had a HEAB-inspired smoothie this morning.

roasted kabocha
coconut milk
frozen naner (duh)
protein powder
Udo’s oil
splash of maple syrup

Holy smokes was it good.

Have a good one!

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 21, 2010 at 8:01 pm

Scott, Your smoothie comment was in my spam folder, and it definitely sounds “Holy Smokes” worthy. πŸ™‚

Deb January 20, 2010 at 12:26 pm

Awww you are way too sweet my friend. You wished me a happy birthday and linked me about 54 times in your post! I feel sooo honored!

Oh and yes, 1/8 of a cup of cream is rather unDeblike however, 1/8 of a cup is actually only 2 Tablespoons! So that sounds much better!! πŸ˜€

Love you my friend and thank you again and again!! It does feel good to finally be 25!

Sarah January 20, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Hey Heather, it’s probably more likely the dairy products that are highest in lactose/carbs that your bod doesn’t care for too much, not the protein that’s the problem. I’m pretty lactose intolerant too, but seem to be OK with butter, cream, full fat greek yogurt and some cheeses. It’s just when the fat ratios are messed up (removed) and the carb/lactose % goes up that I start getting all issuey again.

Just my 2c πŸ™‚

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 20, 2010 at 2:42 pm

Sarah, Yes, it’s the casein and whey. I’m lactose intolerant as well as allergic to the proteins found in dairy products. Whenever I up my dairy, my body fights back with chronic infections. However, I asked Alisa over at Go Dairy Freeabout cream and butter, and she emailed me that many people with dairy allergies can often tolerate the full fat dairy products as they may only contain a trace of whey and casein. Cheese and yogurt will always be big no-no’s for me.

maggie January 20, 2010 at 11:59 am

Nomnomnom!! Love jay’s shakes!

Sagan January 20, 2010 at 11:51 am

Mmmmm smoothie.

I’d never heard of Nuttzo before. Intriguing!

Mama Pea January 20, 2010 at 11:38 am

I was just thinking I needed to order some more Jay Robb. I’m licking my lips just thinking about him…uh, I mean the brown rice powder…

samialyssa31 January 20, 2010 at 11:37 am

Awh MAN! I’m A DAY LATE! I literally just ordered my Jayy Robb yesterday πŸ™

Beth January 20, 2010 at 11:37 am

Oh my gosh, last night I tried your protein ice cream and it was AMAZING! I purchased the xanthan gum and guar gum finally and used some vanilla protein powder that I already had and some chocolate amazing grass and put it all in the blender – it was so so good and I can’t wait to make some more tonight for dessert. Topped mine with unsweetened coconut and some chocolate and peanut butter chips…Thank you!

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 20, 2010 at 2:24 pm

Beth, You’re welcome. πŸ™‚

Gracie January 20, 2010 at 11:28 am

YAY! Thanks so much for the coupon! I just bought Jay’s protein powder for the first time the other day and I love it. I just got two small packets, though, so I’m looking forward to getting a huge container of it STAT.

Runeatrepeat January 20, 2010 at 11:26 am

I accidentally put too much xantham gum in my smoothie and it was like a foamy mess. But I still drank it because that’s how I roll.

Laura January 20, 2010 at 11:15 am

Yummy! I need to buy some of the gums to thicken my smoothies. I had Jay Robb vanilla whey protein in pancake form this morning. πŸ™‚ Deeeeelish!

Ameena January 20, 2010 at 11:10 am

Your smoothe looks amazing! Thanks so much for the coupon!

eaternotarunner January 20, 2010 at 11:00 am

That smoothie does look awesome, thanks for the coupon!

Veggiesmack January 20, 2010 at 10:56 am

Yum! That smoothie looks delicious!

kandkfood January 20, 2010 at 10:55 am

Thanks for the coupon! There are so many protein powders and smoothie supplements out there I have trouble deciding what to buy. I’ll give this a whirl…. In the blender. -Katie

plamarie January 20, 2010 at 10:54 am

I am loving the heavy cream! I joke with my husband that half anf half isn’t thick enough for my coffee. πŸ™‚ Ordinarily I drink my coffee black, but on special occasions I LOVE to treat myself to heavy cream. Best coffee ever! I think I like your style-perhaps a spoon of that whipped cream on top for a special mug!

Morgan @ Life After Bagels January 20, 2010 at 10:54 am

no you DIDN’T put whipping cream on your breakfast . . . oh man that’s brilliant!

Melanie January 20, 2010 at 10:51 am

Oh, that smoothie looks really good. I’ve been thinking about trying Jay Robb…I just wish that the “good stuff” wasn’t so expensive, ya know?

Jordan @ Salt Sweat Sugar January 20, 2010 at 10:51 am

Woohoo thanks for that coupon!

That looked like soup at first. It looked like GOOD soup. But I was very wrong, haha.

(Have you ever seen the Princess Bride? Please be only “mostly dead”) πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Heather Eats Almond Butter January 20, 2010 at 10:56 am

Katie, Yes, I was only “mostly dead” πŸ™‚

Heather (Heather's Dish) January 20, 2010 at 10:45 am

i think we’ve all died and gone to smoothie heaven πŸ™‚

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is January 20, 2010 at 10:41 am

I love fresh whipped cream – a true pleasure!

molly @thevegandorm January 20, 2010 at 10:41 am

I’ve been reading of quite a few people experimenting with high-fat dairy like cream and butter – can’t wait to hear more about it!

Rose January 20, 2010 at 10:35 am

That smoothie looks absolutely incredible!
