Plain Jane Post

by HEAB on March 22, 2010

Hey HEABers,

Been a crazy day. Worked all morning and covered 4.5 miles walking outside. The sunshine is gone, and it’s once again cold and gloomy in Nashville. However, it stopped raining, and it was good to get in some fresh air.

I’m now about to get a massage myself from my therapist friend that I trade with, but I before I do, I wanted to share my very plain looking but very tasty lunch with you. So, I was craving a bagel with cream cheese and lox. I never buy bagels, and unfortunately had no lox on hand. The following is what I came up with…

IMG_4660.JPG

Ha-ha, looks totally bland, huh? Well for some reason, this tasted amazing. I warmed 2 La Tortilla Factory tortillas in the oven, covered them in 1 ounce of regular cream cheese and ate them with a Trident brand wild Alaskan salmon burger. Not quite what I had in mind, but it totally hit the spot!

OK, gotta go, but I’m giving everyone one more day to enter my raw chocolate giveaway as I kept forgetting to link to it over the weekend. I’ll leave the comments open until midnight tonight and announce the winner tomorrow.

Enjoy the rest of your Monday!

Enjoy the massage! I am so jealous!

I love salmon burgers with a little salsa :-) There’s some brand I can’t remember–maybe that one?–that uses dill in the patty and it’s AMAZING

I have never had a massage and I could kill for me. I am afraid if I get one, I will want one all the time!

Heather March 22, 2010 at 2:06 pm

YUM! i love salmon burgers :) massages are so nice…i haven’t had one in forever, but could totally go for some neck work right now!

Christie @ Honoring Health March 22, 2010 at 2:10 pm

Enjoy your massage!

I think your wrap sounds like a great sub for the bagels with lox, though I have never actually had bagels with lox :D

Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies. It reminds me of growing up: angst, suburbia, soccer moms, house parties etc. The setting is what I related to most.

You can’t help but think long after it is over what it means to you.
Being thought provoking and unforgettable and maybe even a bit puzzling is what makes a movie great.I am excited to see what Richard Kelly comes out with next.

I am currently rereading A Prayer for Owen Meany, makes me wonder what the movie would be like from that book.

Hi Heather! Your salmon quesadillawrapthing looks tasty!

Just wanted to let you know that you inspired me to start a new healthy recipe blog. I just made my first post, with a recipe for oaties based on your maple nut oaties recipe. Mine turned out wonderfully — thanks so much for the idea and best to you and CD.

Mae March 22, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Lox+bagels=Amazing!! That used to be my favorite way to eat cream cheese. I made homemade smoked salmon this summer- it was so much fun!

musingsofthegranolagirl March 22, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Sounds like a simple but tasty lunch. Bagels and cream cheese = LOVE, pure love — so any substitute has got to be somewhat tasty, right?

Rebecca @ How the Cookie's Crumble March 22, 2010 at 4:20 pm

Mmmmm! I love bagles & lox too! What a creative more healthy option. I would’ve added capers, red onion and tomatoes. Oh great… now I’ve got the craving too!

eatmovelove March 22, 2010 at 4:28 pm

Salmon, tortillas and cream cheese? Nothing wrong with any of those :) …but perhaps get yourself a little lox in the future for such scenarios haha.

Are you an independent contractor with your work HEAB? Do you get to set your own hours , etc. – do you enjoy the flexibility? I have a lot of massage friends…they enjoy it, but most work other jobs due to the instability of the job…of course most are young and single too, so no extra income.

Heather Eats Almond Butter March 22, 2010 at 4:42 pm

Eatmovelove, I work for an alternative medical doctor. Love the flexibility and the fact that I don’t work 8 to 5. However, I work a lot of late nights and some weekends. Kind of pain, but I’ll take it. I love my job. :)

Samantha March 22, 2010 at 4:28 pm

Sometimes plain is best. :) Sounds good to me! I might have to look for salmon burgers.

Hope you enjoyed your outdoors time. It’s gloomy here too and on the cooler side (for Guam, think 75f) so I’m spending the day inside working and letting my 2nd round of bee stings heal.

Enjoy your massage!

Heather Eats Almond Butter March 22, 2010 at 4:43 pm

Sam, So sorry about the bee stings! Feel better.

janetha March 22, 2010 at 4:59 pm

looks pretty dang good if you ask me!

Michele | aka Raw Juice Girl March 22, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Sometimes simple is just the best! :-D

Yeah, I’ve had tons of gloomy days here in Missouri – the sun stuck around all day today, though! Woo hoo!

Already entered your chocolate giveaway – can’t wait to see who wins! :-D

Hugs,
Michele

Lauren @ Eater not a runner March 22, 2010 at 5:39 pm

I’ve never had a salmon burger but lox is my FAVORITE!

Julie @ Pickley Pear March 22, 2010 at 5:41 pm

It’s cold and rainy in Detroit too. I managed a 4.5 mile run this morning before the rain began. Love the make-shift lox and cream cheese, you gotta do what you gotta do!!

jenny March 22, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Anna March 22, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Enjoy the massage!!

gina (fitnessista) March 22, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Lindsay March 22, 2010 at 6:22 pm

salmon burgers go good on everything! Lox and smoked salmon are favorite of mine. Sometimes I put them in an omelet with Kale. Weird combo but TASTY!

adrienmelaine March 22, 2010 at 6:27 pm

Looks a bit random- but if it hit the spot it hit the spot- give it some colour next time!

Justine March 22, 2010 at 6:41 pm

How luxurious you must have felt to have salmon for breakfast?!

I remembered pancake sunday, too, and celebrated with some oaty hotcakes. :)

Cherie March 22, 2010 at 6:46 pm

Smoked salmon, bagel and cream cheese. Sounds like my kinda meal. Mmmmmm…

Heather Eats Almond Butter March 22, 2010 at 6:49 pm

Cherie, I think of you whenever I crave bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Really, I do. :)

Gabriela (froyolover) March 22, 2010 at 7:27 pm

Salmon burguer = LOVE!
Have a great week, Heather!
Brazilian XOXO´s,

What a great sub! I think lox with cream cheese on a sesame seed bagel is one of my very favorite breakfasts :)

candicemccoy March 22, 2010 at 8:53 pm

I was definitely having a bagel and cream cheese craving last week! So good!

Hope you enjoy your massage – I am so jealous!! I’m off to enter the giveaway. I can’t believe I almost missed it.

Carbzilla March 22, 2010 at 9:07 pm

I had a lovely massage myself tonight. Yay, Trident is a local company, and I just saw a new retail location in Ballard today!

Glad you got some great walking in today. We’re having weird weather where it’s sunny but cold…but you get in your car and swelter.

Hope you had a great massage!

Tracie @Hollafoodzone March 22, 2010 at 10:55 pm

mmmm – salmon burgers are NEVER plain jane!

nutellacube March 22, 2010 at 10:55 pm

what kind of cream cheese did you use?

when i am at home (on the west coast), i used to ALWAYS get bagels and lox at the farmer’s market. mmmmm pacific salmon!

Heather Eats Almond Butter March 23, 2010 at 7:42 am

Nutellacube, We bought some cream cheese at Costco since I was eating so much of it. Not sure of the brand – whatever full fat cream cheese they sell. However, my favorite is the whipped cream cheese from Trader Joe’s!

Miz March 23, 2010 at 4:13 am

I laughed to my husband yesterday: IS IT TOO LATE TO GET A POST HALF MARATHON MASSAGE?!

Im waay too cheap, err, frugal.

I need to be less frugal.

Pure2Raw twins March 23, 2010 at 6:54 am

Enjoy your massage ;) Jealous!

fitandfortysomething March 23, 2010 at 7:22 am

pretty brilliant idea….though now you got me thinking of bagels too!

Kelly March 23, 2010 at 7:28 am

Have a great massage! I personally don’t like them but maybe that is because haven’t ever had a good one. The one (and only one) I have had left my back bruised…I looked like I had been beaten. Not good!

Heather Eats Almond Butter March 23, 2010 at 7:41 am

Kelly, So sorry your first massage bruised you. Definitely NOT a good first experience. If you ever come to Nashville – email me. I’ll give you a better one! :)

Ashlei March 23, 2010 at 8:40 am

Sometimes simple meals are the best! Salmon burgers…mmmmm! :)

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) March 23, 2010 at 2:51 pm

You are anything but Plane Jane…I would say you did a pretty good job coming up with a great alternative!

Katherine: What About Summer? March 23, 2010 at 6:20 pm

How do you choose what sea food is safe to eat or not? It’s so hard to know and what companies to trust!

Thanks
Katherine

Heather Eats Almond Butter March 23, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Katherine, I can’t keep up myself and mostly just stick to wild salmon. Otherwise, I don’t eat much fish unless I’m vacationing near the ocean…then I eat it every night, and I don’t care what’s on or off the “safe” list. :)
