Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
I love all things peppermint. Growing up, my favorite movie theater candy was Junior Mints. OK, so I loved the big packages of Twizzlers too…Oh, and let’s not forget the Jordan Almonds. Anyway, even though I skip out on the peppermint candy these days, I still like to fill my day with minty love. I burn peppermint oil during all of my massage therapy sessions, and I love a good peppermint candle – this one is my favorite. Oh my gosh, it smells amazing. I can’t tell you enough about the healing powers of peppermint.
Here is some info. I found on the internet regarding my beloved scent:
The way this works is that the scent actually triggers the hippocampus, a part of the brain linked to memory. The oil relieves not only mental fatigue but also nausea and dizziness. As a healing oil, peppermint is both antiseptic and anesthetic because of its high proportion of menthol. Thus, the essential oil, when inhaled, is extremely effective for fighting respiratory infections, from colds to bronchitis and sinusitis. When diluted and applied to the skin, the oil soothes and cools.
Experiencing a headache or having tummy troubles? Purchase some peppermint essential oil from your local health food store. You can either diffuse it in an oil burner or simply place a few drops on a warm light bulb. There is nothing like walking into a minty fresh room. Very calming and refreshing. Love it!
Cold or sinus issues? Boil 10-12 drops of peppermint oil in a small pot of water and lean over the pot with a towel over your head. Inhale the steam, and it will help clear up your congestion.
Another favorite peppermint fix of mine is peppermint tea.

Lately, I’ve been brewing my tea in coconut or almond milk using my tea condom from Deb. I like to sip it while eating a piece of dark chocolate. Oh my gosh, it’s like a Peppermint Patty party in my mouth!
Tea condom…

Great invention, no?
Don’t have a tea condom? No problem. Many companies make peppermint tea bags, including Celestial Seasonings, and they were kind enough to send me some samples of their wellness teas.

Thanks Celestial Seasonings! Thus far, I’ve tried the Decaf Mint green tea and the Sleepytime Vanilla. Yum! The company would like to spread the tea love to one lucky HEABer. Please leave a comment below sharing your thoughts on all things peppermint, and you’ll be entered to win a Celestial Seasonings Natural Wellness Kit including the following:
Four wellness teas to ease symptoms associated with the cold and flu including Sleepytime Extra, Echinacea Complete Care and Tummy Mint.
Two green teas to support a healthy immune system year round – Authentic Green Tea and Honey Lemon Ginseng Green Tea.
A mug, soothing lip balm, honey sticks and a Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Bear plus the book Herbs for Health and Happiness by Celestial Seasonings founder Mo Siegel and Nancy Burke.

I am so with you on the peppermint!!!! LOVE IT!!!! I sure do miss York peppermint patties (since I gave up refined sugar due to my addiction to the stuff). I know I must sound dense but I’ve never even thought about brewing tea in any sort of milk. Genius!!!
i love love love peppermint tea in the winter. i’ve never tried in coconut milk though, that sounds delicious!
I love everything peppermint. so good for the sinuses, and the tummy!
I love peppermint and tea so I am often wed these loves for my nightcap. Will try it with almond milk post.haste! Will be growing several types of mint this summer as well. YAY!!!
i’ve always loved peppermint too! there is just something so comforting about it.
mMmmm I’m with you on the peppermint front! Pepperming patties used to be one of my favourite treats when I was a kid. Until recently I always had a small containerof peppermint candies in my purse. I’m looking for a natural alternative to the mainstream version I loved because I’m trying to cut down on processed sugars. I also love peppermint tea as a calming treat in the evening. I’m definitely going to try your idea of infusing it in almond milk instead of water. I think I’ll also try stirring in a teaspoon of organic cocoa powder… yum! I was in a health food store the other day and they were burning some peppermint oil, it was great…refreshing and relaxing all at once. I think I might pick some up on my way home from work tonight! Great topic, peppermint love all around! <3
Sleepytime vanilla?!?! Be still my heart…
Love your site! Do you ever drink Yogi Tea? They only have one Peppermint option but it’s really really good! I could hook you up with some if you wanted to try it!
Em, I have tried Yogi tea, but I don’t think I’ve ever had their peppermint. I’ll have to pick some up soon. Thanks for the recommendation!
i love a good pepperminty food scrub!
I have always loved peppermint! Peppermint candy is my favorite icecream and has been since as long as I remember. Love peppermint tea too–it would be great to win some!
i love peppermint in chewing gums, toothpaste, candies, and of course ice cream with chocolate chips…
peppermint in chewing gums, toothpaste, candies, and of course ice cream with chocolate chips…
Andes mints or peppermint patties were always the after dinner treat when my parents took me with them to dinner when I was little – brings back good memories!!!
I love peppermint too! I posted a recipe for peppermint patties 2 weeks ago – I don’t think they are very hard to veganize!!
i LOVE peppermint, but strangely enough i’m not a fan of it with chocolate! i didn’t realize it was so healing though!
p.s. tea condom made me laugh. at work. oops!
I literally just laughed out loud when you said tea condom. My roommates looked at my strangely… love it.
I looove peppermint tea! Trader Joe’s has a great sleepy-time (or is it night-time?) peppermint tea. It’s a great thing to sip on instead of having late night snacks!
everything peppermint here too. peppermint and chocolate, peppermint tea, lotion, peppermint bark
, peppermint stick -Luna bar. I have not tried it in a candle though. That sounds nice. I even mix peppermint and eucalyptus together and put it on a cold compress for my yucky headaches.
I’m on a mint kick defintiely. It’s my favorite flavor! It’s so hard to come by not in sugary desserts, though.
Love drinking peppermint tea after dinner–so relaxing! I’m going to have to look into the candle you linked–sounds fabulous. Mmmmm.
lol the tea condom! I actually have never brewed my own tea but I love mint flavoring. I usually just buy the tea bags.
I LOVE peppermint anything. Especially tea, and foot cream!! (not together
)
i might be alone on this but I HATE mint flavored things!!
I loooove peppermint and I looove tea!!
for a few months last year, i had horrible bouts of almost-daily nausea (no, not pregnant! haha). the only thing that worked to temporarily cure the feeling were mini candycanes. luckily it was around christmastime and i love candycanes. peppermint is in indeed powerful!
Peppermint is such a powerful healer. Cures me every time, I swear.
I love peppermint – to me, it’s such a happy scent!
My husband drinks A LOT of peppermint tea, and even drops peppermint oil on his tongue– it really helps with his IBS.
I find minty things to be so soothing to my tummy. I always have mint gum in my bag because I am prone to nausea and it really helps. Peppermint tea is an awesome night cap…I love your idea of enjoying it with a piece of chocolate!
i love peppermint! i am prone to stomach issues and always have a very large supply of peppermint tea on hand for that very purpose.
I’m kinda meh about mint until I get into a mint mood – then I’m all about mint-chocolate chip ice cream and definitely mint tea! But only peppermint. Wintergreen = gag. Would love to win some tea!
Tea condom…teehee :X I love it! I have those little metal ball things.
I really love junior mints and peppermint patties, though of course I used to eat them in much larger quantities. Now I enjoy the flavor more in homemade hot cocoa with peppermint extract, or I love to make chocolate bark with crushed up peppermints around the holidays.
Peppermint tea also helps ease my stomach troubles, and I go through phases of being a bit gum addicted.
I love celestial seasonings, and i always add a spritz of peppermint oil to my shakes in the morning. Tastes so clean and refreshing!
I love peppermint tea
So soothing and relaxing and makes my tummy feel so much better if I’m having issues
Love peppermint tea, my favorite of all teas by far!
When I was growing up I used to go spend my vacation with my grandma (working parents…) and she had peppermint plants on her backyard. So she would make mint tea for the two of us almost every night! We would sip on it warm together, it was so nice, especially during the winter, considering that the house did not have any heating device. During summer she would make a bigger batch and we would have it cold the next day. So delicious and fresh, and I loved eating the mint leaves!
It was the best tea ever and to this day every time I have mint tea (which is almost daily as I now have my own mint growing in the backyard too) it brings me back over to my grandma’s house, and to lots of good memories.
The sleepytime tea from celestial seasonings is one of my favorite teas, it would be lovely to win it!
Ana
i saw your celestial giveaway and had to enter
i subscribe + read so coming out of the woodwork to enter!!
my peppermint comment: i went to the celestial seasonings factory in january and AM IN LOVE with their company. the “Mint Room” is a small corner of sinus clearing heaven
eye watering but awesome.
Hmmm. A day rarely goes by where I don’t consume some peppermint tea! Fabulous for tummy aches and for anxiety.
I’ve heard that peppermint helps carpal tunnel syndrome. I need to get some drops because my wrists are in bad shape!!
I LOVE Peppermint…in all forms! Peppermint tea is one of my favorites (Refresh Tazo is delicious!). I definitely think the fragrance of peppermint is very healing…GREAT for the sinuses!
I also LOVE peppermint! I find the scent even very relaxing. Yummy!
I use peppermint oil caps to help with my IBS.I also have a crazy addiction to peppermint patties.I only eat them when I visit my Mom.She keeps some in the freezer for me…so good cold:-)cc
I love peppermint. I might love spearmint more, however (as in the spearmint/licorice combo in one of the Sleepytime teas…love it).
I love, love, love the Celestial peppermint green tea. Of course it’s seasonal which is the only part i don’t love. I need a replacement – anyone have ideas?
Also, i really wish i could find a replacement for altoids. Something without sugar or sugar subs. I keep searching the net and finding nothing.
Those that are ingesting the oil – what exactly are you using? I thought it wasn’t ok to ingest essential oils directly?
I too am a recovering junior mints addict. ugh.
On a non minty note: decaf chai tea steeped in homemade almond milk is really good.
Yum- peppermint patties! My husband hates the chocolate/mint combo, so it means no kisses, but sometimes it’s still worth it! ha!
I have peppermint tea (usually teavana) every day to rest my stomach
I adoooooore mint tea! It’s all I drink!
I am more of a spearmint than a peppermint girl in general, but when it comes to tea, I’m up for anything!!
I recently found celestial seasons sugar plum tea and gingerbread spice. look like you got some interesting free stuff!
congrats to the winner.
I’m with you on the peppermint, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!
I do the same thing with brewing tea in almond milk, yummy.
That tea condom is a riot!
adore peppermint. it definitely soothes my nausea. mmm tea….
i love all things peppermint as well. like those little striped mints you sometimes get at restaurants.
i also use dr. bronner’s soap in you guessed it peppermint.
Lea, Dr.Bronner’s peppermint soap is my favorite!
I love all things peppermint! Especially body products. Whole Foods has a great (and cheap!) peppermint body wash that I love.
I am so crazy for all things peppermint–I have a stash from christmas of candy canes and tons of peppermint tea. It’s a little out of hand!
1. I must find a tea condom. haha just typing that makes me giggle!
2. I LOVE peppermint! It’s my favorite mint, and you’re right – it definitely invokes great memories in my head of being a kid!
3. My favorite peppermint items are: Celestial Seasonings Holiday Candy Cane Lane green tea, Ghiradelli peppermint bark and Luna bars chocolate dipped peppermint stick. And I love those softer peppermints, but they are pure sugar so I avoid them!!
All are fabulous! What a wonderful post!
Love Twizzlers still haha
Peppermint is good, it’s all good. And I totally agree about making it with real milk…I always have it with hot chocolate and sometimes just drop in a few pieces of chocolate in the bottom to melt…for good measure
Oh and really…I just want that BEAR!!! Ooof…something to cuddle up with
Thanks for the tips! I love peppermint flavored stuff and tea and scented oils. It’s really relaxing but also invigorating. I like it with chocolate too!
Peppermint is just so soothing for your tummy! I love it. It calms me (and my stomach) down in the evening hours….
Heather,
What do you suggest would be a good yoga download for everyday?? I have been doing the free weekly classes from Yoga Today and some weeks they are just way to slow and I feel like I’m not getting any exercise.
thanks!
Juli, All of the “Yoga for Strength” classes make a great workout, of if you’re more of a flow kind of gal, check out any of the Dave Farmar classes.
Heather, Thank you very much! What a quick response. I really appreciate it!! THANKS!!
I really love peppermint! I especially like to brew double strength peppermint tea when I need a caffeine free pick me up after lunch.
I love peppermint, I actually had this great body wash from TJ with peppermint and tea tree oil. I kind of wanted to eat it (but thankfully didn’t)
I love minty things… love love love. But I have to avoid them because (spearmint) can reduce your milk supply when breastfeeding. I’m not sure about peppermint, so I’m careful just in case.
Just not fair.
Tea condom?! Wha..? Love it.
Did you know that Celestial Seasonings is one of the only tea companies that doesn’t use tea in their products? They use herbs and grasses….ect. (Saw that on Unwrapped last night…)
I love peppermint tea. Last winter I made it every night with some Green & Black’s hot chocolate stirred in.
Graze With Me, No, I did not know that about Celestial. So interesting.
I love all things peppermint except for peppermint cocoa…
I’ve been keeping raw sliced ginger marinated in lemon juice in a jar. I use a small amount of this with hot water as a soothing morning drink. You can add a little bit of raw honey or stevia if you want. It’s great for keeping the colds away .
Janet, I love that idea – thanks for sharing!
My favorite tea is peppermint green tea. Haven’t been able to find it for a while
And simple peppermint tea is relaxation in a cup. I have a big mint plant in my garden and I love the fragrance it gives off. Watermelon with a few chopped mint leaves and a squeeze of lime juice is divine!
I LOVE this giveaway! I am a huge fan of peppermint as well. One of my favorite beverage treats in the winter is adding a few drops of peppermint syrup to my coffee. Peppermint tea is by far my fave flavor…I would take that over fruity teas any day! I am trying to cut down my coffee intake to one-a-day, and I have been experimenting with new teas. This giveaway is perfect timing for me!
I love peppermint tea! It is one of my absolute favorite things to drink and it really does help with digestion issues!
I love love peppermint too! Anytime I need to relax or have an upset stomach I drink a big cup of peppermint tea and just feel so great afterwards. Peppermint with chocolate or strawberries is also a yummy treat I like
I love peppermint- it is one of my favourite flavours for sure. I loved Junior Mints as a kid, too!
xo
K
i always drink peppermint tea when i am under the weather..makes me feel so much better!
I have become obsessed with the Ginseng Peppermint tea at a local coffee shop here at Baylor! I had been experiencing stomach pains and bloating for a while and after reading up started drinking peppermint tea and it has worked wonders. Plus the smell is delightful!
i luv any and all homeopathic things! i am always looking for alternative ways to heal and feel better! thanks for all the great peppermint tips! The teas look great too!
I just realized that there’s TOO LITTLE PEPPERMINT in my life! Oh no!
I used to have a lot of stomach issues but have found that drinking peppermint tea really calms things down in there!
I love peppermint and chocolate. My favorite is peppermint patties, which I actually made myself this Christmas! And blogged about it!
You should try Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea!!
I am so down with peppermint. My favorite lotion is Origins Souffle and it has this great mint smell and leaves your skin kinda tingly. It’s so refreshing!
Coffeeismycarrot, Oh my gosh, have you tried Origins Salt Scrub? It’s so minty and wonderful and leaves your skin feeling so soft!
Great post! Peppermint tea is my favorite
I used to hate chocolate and mint together and now it’s one of my favorites. Great idea to eat dark chocolate with peppermint tea…I’ll have to try that!
my favorite time is christmas when peppermint is everywhere! I love candy canes yummmmm!
-Lena
Ooh, I love peppermint, too. Peppermint tea was the first tea I started drinking regularly, back in junior high! I used to get an upset stomach pretty often, and found it really soothing.
Also love the dark chocolate/peppermint combo. Yum!
peppermint tea makes my stomach feel better when it hurts! i drink it all the time though… it’s calming and refreshing at the same time.
Once again Heather, I beleive our energy connects us two…I actually made myself some peppermint decaf green tea last night after I read about how you tried it in almond milk. It was very warm and comforting:). It is also cool that you braught up the Celestial Seasonings brand because that was the kind that I used! I like when little connections like this happen in life..it makes me feel as if I am most certainly going in the right direction. Hope I win this!
Love peppermint!! I have been drinking tons of Celestial Seasonings peppermint tea (love that it is decaf!!) lately. As a kid, I always remembered hearing that you were supposed to eat a peppermint candy while studying for a test then eat another one while taking the test to help with your memory…don’t know if it helped but it sure kept me awake!! I used to eat tons of those soft peppermint sticks that were probably pure sugar but oh so tasty!! Now I just stick with the tea.
I <3 anything peppermint or spearmint. Aveda's blue oil (with peppermint and eucalyptus) is my "go to" product when my sinuses get bad. Heaven in an itty bitty glass vial I tell ya!
The Sleeyptime Vanilla is YUM…I go through more of it than any other tea next to Numi Desert Lime methinks.
That candle sounds amazing.
hello, my name is rebekah, and i’m a peppermint addict. i am probably the only person i know who growing up would spend their “allowance” money on my own special kind of toothpaste. i had to have my own separate from the family because they didn’t get peppermint.
so, clearly, i like the stuff. and your lovely blog!
-r
I always got the sour patch kids. My tongue would be numb by the end of the movie.
Peppermint is my favorite thing in the world. Ok, not quite, but close. Chocolate, tea, candles, candy.. you name it, it’s better with peppermint. MMM!
Peppermint is one of my favorite flavors, too. I generally enjoy it in tea form. My current obsession is Celestial Season’s Candy Cane Lane. It’s seasonal, but I stocked up and bought about ten boxes over the holidays. It’s a lovely mint with a hint of vanilla. Mmm-mmm! I just hope that my “stash” lasts until next Christmas!
Oh boy! I need to try the coconut milk with the chocolate and peppermint! Thanks for the idea!
I love peppermint…especially when it’s mixed with chocolate. Last week at my work one of my boss’s made chocolate peppermint cupcakes and they were DIVINE.
I love Celestial Seasonings seasonal tea decaf candy cane lane~i even bought a lotion kit to get extra boxes!!!!
Ps. and I even reuse the teabag! =)
LOVE PEPPERMINT! My favorite tea is iced peppermint with a few drops of agave syrup! I sip on it all day for hydration and minty fresh breath! YUM!
What a great giveaway! As an opera singer, I often reach for a big mug of peppermint tea with honey to soothe my throat and hydrate before and during performances. Good stuff!
Love everything mint. Gum, tea, yorks… it’s one of my favorite sweet flavors (cinnamon is up there too). There is nothing that settles the stomach for me like a few drops of peppermint oil on my tongue. Love peppermint lotion too – it’s soothing and invigorating!
Love peppermint. During the holidays I stock pile the mint teas and buy anything with mint in it.
The candy cane coffee available in the winter is the one reason I could never give up coffee–love the combo too much.
Sadly my husband doesn’t share the love of mint, so I have to be selective when/where I use it.
mm I love peppermint! It’s so nice and refreshing! Peppermint tea is one of my favorites! One time I made peppermint shampoo with peppermint tea, peppermint dr. bronner’s, and some olive oil. It was amazing! Very tingly and refreshing!
oh, I love peppermint… and tea too
My favorite is Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream — see here for Shirley’s recipe that is so easy & yummy and made with spinach to make it green… it’s dairy free too. She said I was her inspiration (I did a green smoothie demo at her support meeting with spinach and bananas).
http://glutenfreeeasily.com/mint-chocolate-chip-ice-cream/
Cool. Thanks Jennifer. I love Shirley.
The next time you come to Colorado you should go to the Celestial Seasonings Tea Tour in Boulder. When they roll up the garage door for the Peppermint room it is UNBELIEVABLE!! It’s powerful and absolutely wonderful!
Hey!
I love peppermint tea. I like to drink it after meals to help digest my food. Lately I’ve been drinking it in the morning too. If I would have thought about using peppermint oil to help clear my sinuses, I probably would have gotten rid of my three day migraine much sooner than I did (which wasn’t until today)
Hope you’re having a great night! <3
I love peppermint, especially home grown!
Please don’t enter me in the contest. I don’t love peppermint tea that much. Candies, yes…tea, no. Smoothies? Meh. I’m with Tiffany- love choco mint but wintergreen gag. I just wanted to say Hi. Glad you like the tea condom. I love that thing too- I havent’ gotten any since I was in Germany about 10 yrs ago so I hope they still exist if yours ever dies.
Hope you’re having a wonderful monday heabie!
I love peppermint tea – so relaxing. And peppermint foot cream.
Thanks for the tip about using pepperming for congestion. I will definitely try that!
For some reason, teas, lip balms, and lotions are the only way that I can enjoy peppermint (in a sweet way- I love mint as a fresh herb!)
Have a good day-
I love Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap. So refreshing in the a.m.! And I loved Peppermint Patty on Charlie Brown
Junior Mints were my fave, too. Peppermint is so good for the tummy and to get rid of after-dinner bad breath. Love the tea condom!
YAY!
Oh… and i love green tea. it’s my obsession
I’ve always been a little weary of peppermint tea, but I love mint+chocolate, so I really just need to try it.
mint chocolate chip ice cream!!!!!
Peppermint tea is my favorite!! Peppermint and chocolate is one of my favorite combos too!! Its right up there with banana and pb!
I’ve never been a fan of peppermint, mostly because toothpaste has ruined all mints for me in terms of wanting to ingest that flavor!
However, I do like peppermint gum, and maybe body fragrances (shampoo, lotion). And I love green-mint (grasshopper) frozen yogurt. Is that peppermint? haha
Crazy enough I’m not a big fan of mint with chocolate, but mint tea sounds lovely! I’m going to have to pick some up. Oh, and a massage with a mint candle scent in the air sounds lovely as well!
OMG I was just telling my husband our tea filters look like condoms. I hang these on a mug stand on the window sill for the whole world to see and they really look like huge condoms drying out. Gross.
I drop essential oils in our little water fountain. Love the mint family, it make our room smell light and clean.
Great I idea with the tea infused coconut milk, my husband brought me home a Theo Bar and I will try nibbling ans sipping.
I love sipping peppermint tea while eating chocolate oat bran. Sometimes the tea even joins the oat bran party, but really, who could blame it?
have a lovely day!
xox
i used to hate all mints in general as a child.
as i grew up, ive come to like minty flavors.
peppermint is def up there high on my list.
its so.. minty :]
oh wow! I am totally the biggest fan of peppermint…mmm….
and mustard too (sorry, just catching up on blog reading from a LONG time ago, haha).
Did you ever have those mint candies that are hard with a chocolate center? Haven’t had them in ages, but they are to die for, I tell ya. I also love the zazubean lunatic chocolate bar. It is only 73% (not dark enough for regular consumption for me), but it has herbs in it for “women’s monthly madness.” I mostly just like it because it is filled with mint and crunchy cocoa nibs!
Happy thoughts to you for a happy week!
~the dainty pig
Dainty Pig, Do you mean those little candies with the hard candy shells and filled with chocolate mint on the inside? If so, yes, I’ve had them..did a lot of damage to those little suckers back in the day.
Mmm, do brownies covered in finely crushed candycanes count as a “soothing” peppermint experience?
jcy, Yes!
One of my most favorite teas is Candy Cane Lane…I don’t know if its actually peppermint, but its minty. I have a nice mint one from Hawaii too, but I like that the Candy Cane Lane is green tea. Yum.
Yay for peppermint!!! I believe it does help with the respiratory issues. I have been sucking on some natural throat losenges with peppermint for the past couple of days to help relieve the upper respiratory infection I have. It has been very soothing and I am feeling better!
I reserve generic “Mint” for when I’m sick, but peppermint is a different story. It’s very tummy soothing and it’s an appetite suppressant for me. BTW, glad to see you’re practicing safe tea steepage, built in tea bag population control.
ahhh peppermint tea in milk, sounds amazing! would LOVE to try!
