Dear Santa

by HEAB on December 8, 2010

Some Christmas gift ideas…

1 ) Marty’s Blogger Babes Calendar…C’mon, it’s for a good cause.

Cover.jpg Heather.jpg

2 ) Books I’ve enjoyed lately…

Google Juice – Yes, it’s my brother’s book, but if you want to get noticed on Google, it’s a must read.

The Great Fitness Experiment: One Year of Trying Everything – Join Charlotte and her Gym Buddies as they try a different workout every month for a year, everything from Cross-Fit to the Primal Blueprint. Find out what gets results and what doesn’t.

It Gets Easier!…And Other Lies We Tell New Mothers, A Fun Practical Guide To Becoming A Mom – A real and honest look at labor and those first few months of motherhood. Wish I would have read this months ago!

Real Food: What To Eat & Why – Love Nina Planck’s philosophy.

Recovering Ramona – A story about a young woman who tackles her mom issues and her fears about starting a future family with the help of an eccentric hippie and a 1986 Volvo. I’ve been reading the released chapters online, and you can now pre-order a copy of the published book. All orders will be received before Christmas.

3 ) Justin’s Chocolate Almond Butter – My favorite chocolate nut butter out there!

Screen shot 2010-12-07 at 8.52.24 PM.png

Use it to make Almond Joy Oatmeal

Old fashioned oats, unsweetened shredded coconut, and Justin’s – YUM!

4 ) Aerolatte Milk Frother – I use this all the time for lattes and whipped cream.

Use it for making High Tea Oats

Favorite jam for High Tea Oats?

5 ) Hot Pepper Raspberry Preserves

6 ) The Best Robe Ever – Seriously, I live in mine. Ask CD.

7 ) Photo Editing Services from Leah Walton – All HEAB readers receive a special holiday discount through December 15, 2010.

201012072117.jpg 201012072117.jpg 201012072117.jpg

Summer and Uncle Scott

8 ) Family Photo Session from Emily Smallcomb – Emily lives in Knoxville, TN but is willing to travel to surrounding areas, and she has graciously offered all HEAB readers a holiday discount of 10% off any photo session if booked by January 31, 2011. Thanks Emily!

heather10.jpg summer9.jpg

9 ) Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddle Wrap – Breathable material and large enough to make the perfect burrito bambino. These are Summer’s favorite blankets, and I would buy them for any mama-to-be or new mom.

No matter how well I swaddle her, she ALWAYS manages to get her arms above her head. πŸ™‚

10 ) And who doesn’t love some granola made with love?

So tell me, what are you asking Santa for this year? I would like one of these. πŸ™‚

Before I go, the winner of the photo editing giveaway is Danielle, and the winner of The Great Fitness Experiment: One Year of Trying Everything giveaway is Larissa. Both of you can expect an email from me soon and thanks for entering.

Maria December 10, 2010 at 2:35 pm

Summer is even cuter with her hands up like that πŸ˜€ Awwwwww

I would love to hear a post of your thoughts on Nina Planck’s book, if you wouldn’t mind doing it :). Her theory seemed revolutionary to me and pretty valid. Just eat what God made, not what humans made. As simple as that!

HEAB December 10, 2010 at 4:39 pm

I should do a post on Nina Planck’s philosophy. It’s been a while since I read her book. I’ll try to get a copy from the library soon and look over it again for the post. Good call. Thanks for the request. πŸ™‚

Jenny Juliana December 9, 2010 at 2:59 pm

I would love a flour mill! BTW, I LOVE Nina Planck!!!

Brandae December 9, 2010 at 12:42 pm

Hi Heather,
I need a new robe, and your pick looks AWESOME. Do you mind sharing info about the fit – I’m close to right between the size 1 and 2 – do you recommend going up a size? I might have more babies so would love for it to fit through pregnancy too!

HEAB December 9, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Once you own a Barefoot Dreams robe, you will never want anything else! I actually own a size 2, and it’s quite big on me. I wear a size 6 in pants, and I probably should have gotten the size 1 robe, but I love how roomy mine is – I look like a walking blanket when I wear it. It’s awesome!

Kate @ahealthypassion December 9, 2010 at 9:36 am

yum i absolutely love Justins hazelnut butter I haven’t tried the chocolate almond butter yet but I am definitely going to !

Faith @ She Kneads December 9, 2010 at 2:03 am

I was going to write, “I want a really super nice digital camera!” and then I clicked on your link and surprise! So do you! I SO BADLY want one! It improves a blog so much! Have you seen this blog, Heather? :

She has some of the most stunning food photography/artwork I have ever seen!

HEAB December 9, 2010 at 6:57 am

I just checked out the blog – that’s what I want my photos to look like!! Oh my gosh, they’re gorgeous…and now I really want some chocolate gluten free cupcakes. πŸ˜‰

Faith @ She Kneads December 9, 2010 at 11:25 am

I know! Can you believe it??? She is one of those bloggers that I go to her blog all the time just to look at her pictures…. I’ve never actually cooked one of her recipes haha….

Marie-Sophie December 9, 2010 at 12:54 am

So cute how Summer sleeps, with the arms above her head .. very individual sleeping pose, just like the grown-ups πŸ™‚

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) December 9, 2010 at 12:05 am

Still giggling over the bambino burrito! πŸ™‚ Sooo cute!

Real food is on my list. Love Charlotte’s book- I highly recommend it. And of course i heart the calendar mucho and thank you so very much for the shout! Kudos to your bro for being a published author!

Charlotte December 8, 2010 at 11:29 pm

Oooh I love “Real Food”! So glad that one made your list! Nina Planck is a gold mine of nutritional info! (And thanks for the shout-out to my book too:))

Katy (The Singing Runner) December 8, 2010 at 11:19 pm

I had a Garmin 305 (which I got early so I can use it during my final weeks of training for my half- marathon in exactly a month!) and cash (to save for a D-SLR) on my Christmas list!

HEAB December 9, 2010 at 6:50 am

Katy, very exciting. Good luck in your half!

Kim December 8, 2010 at 11:12 pm

LOVE the pic of Summer with her tiny arms above her head. True story, Bella did the SAME thing, still does! We would put her in the “gowns” to sleep b/c everyone told us how wonderful they were, ect. Every single night, Bella would wiggle her tiny arms out of the top and put above her head. Same with swaddeling. She still sleeps with the same arm above her head. If you look at Bella’s ultrasound pics, same thing. Crazy, no? I would bet if you peeked @ Summer’s ultrasound pics, you would see the same as well!

Santa delivered my new fancy multi-stride elliptical trainer last night. Did yoga this morning, then played with the new toy for a quick cardio sesh. All I really want is for my husband to find peace again @ work and not work 14 hrs a day, we miss him! Everything else is secondary.

HEAB December 9, 2010 at 6:53 am

Hope your husband does find some peace at work – 14 hrs is a long day…sounds like he might just as tired as I am these days.

Too funny about Bella and her arms. Another girl else told me that they used to sleep just like Summer and still does…and she’s almost 30! Need to look at Summer’s ultrasound pics now to see if she was sleeping like that in utero. πŸ™‚ Enjoy your elliptical!

Dea December 8, 2010 at 11:07 pm

I love Christmas lists! I should get mine going!

A Teenage Gourmet December 8, 2010 at 10:08 pm

My Vanderbilt interview went well, Heather! I’m keeping my fingers crossed. . . That milk frother will hopefully be mine, muahahahaha. πŸ˜€ Thank you for suggesting a good one!

HEAB December 9, 2010 at 6:56 am

So happy to hear the interview went well. I’m keeping my fingers crossed you’ll be in Nashville next fall! πŸ™‚

Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! December 8, 2010 at 9:51 pm

I have been on the lookout for a new fitness book and Charlotte’s Fitness Experiment looks perfect!! I can’t wait to start reading!

Melissa @ I Never Imagined December 8, 2010 at 9:26 pm

Toby has that camera!! He takes photos for his website: It’s a really awesome camera!
I hope Santa brings me a food processor πŸ™‚

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 9:29 pm

Really? Off to check out Toby’s website right now. Thanks! πŸ™‚

Melissa @ I Never Imagined December 8, 2010 at 10:19 pm

I hope you like his pics! He was excited when I told him you’re checking it out πŸ™‚

HEAB December 9, 2010 at 6:55 am

They were beautiful. I especially loved the Manhattan Bridge shot as well as the cloud photo taken from the airplane. Toby is quite talented. Wish he was here to give me lessons! πŸ™‚

kristine December 8, 2010 at 9:17 pm

I want each and every one of those books!

Oh and I also LOVED your week of sweet potatoes. I will be trying some of them out soon πŸ™‚

Your blog rocks!

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 9:29 pm

Thanks so much Kristine. πŸ™‚

Laura December 8, 2010 at 6:53 pm

That Justins is so addicting! I like it on oatmeal. I like it straight off a spoon even better πŸ™‚

Abby @ Have Dental Floss, Will Travel December 8, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Re: your own holiday wishlist —

I got Brent this camera for his birthday:

It’s not an SLR, but it’s a powerful point-and-shoot with an extended zoom and a ton of manual capacity. We went back and forth on whether to go with this or an SLR, and ultimately decided that this one served the same purpose but was far more portable.

Just thought I’d point it out in case you weren’t totally set on the one you linked!

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 4:44 pm

Thanks Abby – I’ll pass this info onto CD…um, I mean Santa. πŸ˜‰

Megan (Braise The Roof) December 8, 2010 at 3:13 pm

I seriously want one of those milk frothers! I’m sure I could invent a million ways to NEED frothed milk in my life. πŸ™‚

Natalia - a side of simple December 8, 2010 at 2:30 pm

I still have yet to try Justin’s nut butter. I completely forgot to add it to my list! I better get on that πŸ™‚
Congratulations to the winners of the giveaways!

T December 8, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Unfortunately, a lot of those purchases would have to be online. I have no credit cards and I try to skirt my eyes from all online purchases. Too sad – many of them look very appealing.

This Christmas I hope to afford the dentist. I’ve had unexpected financial strains lately – those things that “shouldn’t” have happened , but actually do happen and make a few extra dents that you never anticipated!

Lovely list.

Jennifer@ knackfornutrition December 8, 2010 at 1:32 pm

Just wanted to let you know that the picture of Summer with her arm above her head made me smile so big!! She is so cute! πŸ™‚

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Thanks Jennifer – That photo always brings a smile to my face as well. πŸ™‚

Felicia (a taste of health with balance) December 8, 2010 at 1:31 pm

Donna December 8, 2010 at 1:01 pm

Hi Heather-

Is the Google Juice book digital only? Or is there a place to buy a hard/paperback book?

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 4:54 pm

You can purchase a PDF copy of Google Juice here and then print out a hard copy:

Baking 'n' Books December 8, 2010 at 12:47 pm

What a great list. I want to check out those books. And your wish – is Santa getting it for you this year?! πŸ˜‰

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 4:54 pm

Baking ‘n’ Books. I wish – would be kind of shocked if Santa came through with that one! πŸ˜‰

Pure2raw Twins December 8, 2010 at 12:38 pm

Thanks for the great list of ideas! Love the calender pic of you πŸ˜‰ I need to get that google juice book sounds great!! HUGS

Robin December 8, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Thanks Robin. πŸ™‚

Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 8, 2010 at 11:19 am

“A real and honest look at labor and those first few months of motherhood. Wish I would have read this months ago!”–

Yeah, tried to tell you a few tidbits in email (and glad per your comment reply to me yesterday that all my tidbits were well-received.) I mean, no one wants to rain on a pregnant lady’s parade and no one knows what kind of birth, baby, after-effects the mother/baby dyad will have on everything from nursing to sleep to adjusting to this new life so it’s hard to say “too” much…but it’s like to not say anything is a little pipe dream that’s kinda far-fetched πŸ™‚

Anyway, moving on…I LOVE this list! I dont have a fancy camera either. My robe is a 9.99 tshirt from target that’s 4 yrs old and has stains on it and my books are of the ABC singing variety. I would gladly take any of these things πŸ™‚

Moni'sMeals December 8, 2010 at 11:05 am

great list and I love your calender pic! Hottie~ πŸ™‚

Rose December 8, 2010 at 10:58 am

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:33 pm

That brings a smile to my face. Love Justin’s!

Susan December 8, 2010 at 10:37 am

Great list!

Random, but I’d kind of like a Velvet Underground/Andy Warhol “banana” t-shirt.

Maren December 8, 2010 at 10:31 am

I definitely want The Great Fitness Experiment for Christmas! I sent the link to my dad this morning!! πŸ™‚

Christin@purplebirdblog December 8, 2010 at 10:27 am

I made granola for my family! I’m shipping it off today!1 πŸ™‚

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) December 8, 2010 at 10:16 am

Great ideas! Now that we have the boys to buy for, we never get the chance to get things for each other and no one asks us what we want, so it is all a surprise!

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:33 pm

Really? I sent CD a whole list of stuff I wanted. Hehe. πŸ˜‰

allison @ livingoneday December 8, 2010 at 10:12 am

hey heather, do you know if google juice is only available in kindle edition, or also in actual book form? im thinking of getting it for my job, but i dont have an ereader!

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:31 pm

My brother emailed you regarding Google Juice. Please let me know if you didn’t receive it. πŸ™‚

Courtney (greeneyedrunner) December 8, 2010 at 10:10 am

I loved yesterday’s guest post-although that’s a long way away for me, it still made me laugh!

Look at those gorgeous long fingers…and that perfect little face! She might be on to something with her arms above her head. Hmm, I should try it.

Talia@ Texas Gunslinger December 8, 2010 at 10:08 am

Ooooh, those really are great gift ideas! I’ll have to check out Charlotte’s book- looks really interesting!

This Christmas I’m asking Santa for a new Magic Bullet (or comparable blender system), as well as gift cards to The Vitamin Shoppe, because it has trumped Sephora as my favorite store (no small feat!). I’m starting another contest diet prep January 1st (can’t keep a good girl down!) and I know I’ll be frequenting TVS often for supplements and shakes! Hubby cringes when I say I am or have already gone to The Vitamin Shoppe, because he knows it’s like “supermarket sweep” when I go in. Can’ help myself- I want everything in there! πŸ˜‰

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:30 pm

CD does the same thing whenever I mention the “W” word…Whole Foods. πŸ˜‰

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg December 8, 2010 at 10:08 am

Ooh, great gift list!! I would take ANY (or all!!) of these! πŸ™‚

JennyWoj December 8, 2010 at 10:07 am

I just recently found your site – I’ve been following Charlotte for a few months now.

I’m commenting because I just had a baby in July and I also would die with out the Aden & Anias swaddle raps – now Baby B loves them to chew and snuggle with – they can calm her down in an instant.

I had trouble getting the swaddle down too, but the Happiest Baby on the Block technique works really well – if you can’t Netflix the video this clip should do the trick: It’s the “belt” that makes it work. You’ll have to fold the A&A almost entirely in half to start because they are so large.

Good luck! I can’t wait to try out some of your recipes.

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:29 pm

Oh my gosh, I am all about the dudu swaddling method. You should have seen me when we first brought Summer home. I would lay her down by my laptop and swaddle her as I watched the Happiest Baby on The Block DVD. They make it look so easy, but it took me several tries to get it, and you’re right, the belt is key! CD still can’t do it right. Hehe. πŸ™‚

So glad you found me and thanks for reading!

Kath December 8, 2010 at 10:07 am

I spy the KERF mug!!!!!!!!!

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Love my KERF mug. πŸ™‚

VeggieGirl December 8, 2010 at 10:07 am

Stellar gift guide!

I already have what I want for Christmas πŸ˜‰

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:27 pm

Katie December 8, 2010 at 10:04 am

This is a great list, Heather. I got a milk frother at IKEA for $1.99 last Christmas and I love it.

That robe is calling my name. I just asked for the complete Arrested Development series. So funny, and its on sale today only at amazon for $28 for all three seasons. I hope my mom took my “hint”. πŸ˜‰

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:27 pm

I’m wearing my Barefoot Dreams robe as I type this – love that thing. CD and I Netflixed Arrested Development and have watched the first 4 episodes thus far. Funny stuff. Always been a fan of Jason Bateman.

Little Bookworm December 8, 2010 at 9:50 am

That almond joy oatmeal looks amazing. Think I might need to make some more chocolate almond butter in the future. πŸ™‚

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:26 pm

Why yes, I believe you do. πŸ™‚

Healthy Choc December 8, 2010 at 9:49 am

What a bunch of great ideas!!!!! I already have the milk frother, and I looove it!!!!!

Danielle December 8, 2010 at 9:48 am

Holy freaking crap!! Me?? You should have seen my face when I read it… Now all I have to do is get my husband to take the picture WITH me. This will make such a great Christmas present, Heather, thank you so much! I have 3 brand new silver frames waiting to welcome a great looking family picture to give to each of our parents. πŸ™‚

chocolate-covered katie December 8, 2010 at 9:42 am

Heya Heather,
I know you’re a busy mamacita. But if you get a chance, be sure to check out my post from last Sunday. You WON’T regret it.

*hint hint* πŸ™‚
On a side note: wow, that almond joy oatmeal!

HEAB December 8, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Best post ever. πŸ™‚
