Moving Forward & Giving Back Giveaway

by HEAB on December 20, 2010

So, my goal of 5 workouts a week hasn’t gone so well. I used to NEVER miss a workout, but between Summer and the craziness of the holidays, exercise just hasn’t been a top priority. However, climbing up and down the stairs to the nursery should count for something, right? I did get in 3 sessions of strength training last week. Turns out with our new AT&T U-verse package, we do have some On Demand Exercise TV shows. I discovered some great 10 minute cardio/weight options, and I was so sore after doing them. It was great. Today’s goal is to do the Shred DVD as I know I can fit in 20 minutes of Jillian barking orders at me…can’t wait. 😉

Breakfast should keep me fueled throughout the day…

1 cup rolled oats cooked in 2 cups water with 1 TBSP brewers yeast stirred in after cooking and topped with creamy almond butter.

After the holidays, I really plan to amp up my strength training. Honestly, my dream would be to get back to my yoga studio several days a week as nothing has ever done more for my body than yoga, but that’s not happening. The only time I’ll really be able to get to a class is on the weekends when CD is home to stay with Summer. So, Lindsey, my favorite online personal trainer has offered to work with me for 6 weeks. Want to join in the fun? Well then, how about joining Team HEAB?

Here’s the deal:

Staring in January, there will be 3 teams competing against one another for 6 weeks: TEAM HEAB as well as a team led by Charlotte from The Great Fitness Experiment and Lindsey will be leading one as well.

There will be 5 free spots on each team. However, if you don’t win a spot, you can still join the team. The cost is $30, and $10 of that will go into the “pot”. The winning team will be decided by which team has the most points at the end of the challenge. Points are earned by members completing their workouts and the weekly challenges, and at the end of the competition. The prize for the winning team is the entire “pot” being donated to the leader of the winning team’s charity of choice. I’ve chosen Best Friends Animal Society, a grassroots effort to place dogs and cats who were considered “unadoptable” into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs.

What you’ll receive as a team member: 2 full workout programs complete with strength and cardio that can all be done at home and indoors for the winter (one at the beginning and one three weeks into the program), complete access to Lindsey for any questions they have via email, weekly challenges that focus on increasing fitness levels, and 20% off any nutrition program upgrades.

To enter the random drawing for the five free spots, email Lindsey at by WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY of this week with the subject of “HEAB Team Giveaway Entry”. For the sake of time, you don’t need to give an explanation in the email. You will be notified of the results within a few days of the deadline. Entering the giveaway does NOT mean you have to join the team. If you do not win a free spot you are under no obligation to join the team, and please click here for more information.

Keep in mind this is about having fun, and hopefully a little lighthearted competition will help keep us all motivated. Happy Holidays and go Team HEAB! 🙂

Holly December 27, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Wish I could join y’all as I seriously need to up the ante with my strength training, but I’m running a marathon on Jan 30th so my focus will remain on the miles until then…I’m not speedy like CD, but training hard for a 3:45 finishing time,,,maybe after the race! 🙂

Maggie @ Say Yes to Salad December 27, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Dang, I wish I had seen this sooner!! Oh well 😛 Maybe I will join anyway.

Howard From Seattle December 22, 2010 at 12:08 am

HEAB December 22, 2010 at 3:22 am

Yep, both men and women. 🙂

Emily December 21, 2010 at 9:39 pm

Heather, I want to join team HEAB! I posted about the free spot with Lindsey but either way I want in! Let me know what I need to do 🙂

HEAB December 21, 2010 at 11:44 pm

Oh good – I would love to have you on Team HEAB. All you have to do is email Lindsey at by tomorrow (Wednesday). Each team has 5 free spots. So excited! 🙂

allik December 21, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Hi HEAB. I signed up for the challenge yesterday. I’ve been a total lazybones lately without a good excuse like a new baby. I feel like I’ve grown a new butt…and that is the point…I need a motivation like teamwork! I can’t wait for this challenge. Tell us more about it! –allik

HEAB December 21, 2010 at 11:47 pm

Hey allik,
So happy to hear you signed up for the challenge. I need a little motivation in my life as well. Lindsey is great. I’ve worked with her twice in the past, and I’ve gotten a lot from her workouts. They always included cardio intervals, strength training, and a little steady state cardio. What I like about Lindsey is that she keeps the workouts fairly short, but they are super effective. So, it will a fun yet challenging 6 weeks. I’m looking forward to it!

jenny December 21, 2010 at 5:03 pm

toast to everyone’s health who enters (or not!) 😀

janetha @ meals and moves December 21, 2010 at 1:27 pm

What a great idea and fun giveaway. Of course I am signing up.

Shauna December 21, 2010 at 1:13 pm

This will be so much fun! I have recently completed Cosgrove’s Female Body Breakthrough and have been too busy to put another program together, but recognize that a new plan is sorely needed. I need a plan! And I have been looking for a good way to work out at home more often. The trouble with home is not ideas, but distraction and this will give me accountability. Definitely looking forward to this.

Don’t you stress too much about workouts. You’ve got a lot going on and are putting impressive amounts of energy into nursing. Cut yourself a little slack. 🙂

HEAB December 21, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Thanks Shauna – needed to read your comment today. 🙂

A Teenage Gourmet December 21, 2010 at 10:09 am

I know it’s cold outside, but do you ever swim? It’s my favorite type of exercise! You might enjoy the peacefulness as a new Mommy. Either way, I don’t think you should feel badly about extra time with Summer! 🙂

HEAB December 21, 2010 at 10:51 am

I used to swim and did it a lot back in my running days if I was ever injured. I get pretty bored in the indoor pool, but not so much when I’m swimming outside. We have a sports club up the street with a great pool. I should give it a try. 🙂

Natalie December 21, 2010 at 5:13 am

One thing that was hard for me to adjust to with kids was that I couldn’t do what I wanted to or what I planned all the time. Especially with some night time wake up calls that left me exhausted or working around the feeding schedule. Now at 5 months out, I get up super early to get the me time at the gym and the day goes on very smoothly! The other thing is getting someone to watch Summer because you need that time to yourself to do what makes you happy!

HEAB December 21, 2010 at 5:41 am

Yes, you are up super early. 🙂 I agree – I was so used to doing everything I wanted whenever I wanted. It’s been a huge adjustment, and I am trying to remeber (& people keep reminding me) that’s okay to do something for myself every so often. I do need to get out of the house or else I go crazy. Thank goodness my mom lives less than 3 miles away. Don’t know what I would do without her babysitting services! 🙂

Coco December 20, 2010 at 10:22 pm

Would LOVE to be on Team HEAB! Considering you are a brand new mommy the fact that you even have energy to do any form of exercise is truly remarkable. You are a rockstar 😉

Rachael December 20, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Well, you definitely make many of us (with far fewer, albeit cuddly, responsibilities) look lazy 🙂
Good luck!

Maria Peters December 20, 2010 at 9:28 pm

The challenge sounds like a lot of fun! It would be just the motivation that I need to get my butt in gear and loose the last couple post-pregnancy pounds. Are you watching the MN vs. Chicago game? We DVR’d it and just started watching – shhh… don’t give anything away!

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 9:36 pm

I’m sitting in front of the TV right now watching. Good game thus far. 🙂

Namaste Gurl December 20, 2010 at 7:08 pm

Brewer’s yeast in oatmeal…huh…. never tried that! I wonder how nutritional yeast in oatmeal would taste. My current fav snack: a mashed avocado with nutritional yeast and lime juice 🙂

I hope you get in some body movement today! Say hi to Summer for me 🙂

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 8:43 pm

It would taste good – try it! 🙂
P.S Summer says hi.

lindsay December 20, 2010 at 5:54 pm

What a great motivator and good cause. Aren’t you just spot on for the holidays! I look forward to hearing all about it!

Jan December 20, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Awesome giveaway. I sent my email.

Ann @ Day By Day December 20, 2010 at 5:08 pm

You’re an inspirational new mom! I hope to be back in shape as quickly as you one day when I’m a mom.

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 8:48 pm

Thanks Ann, and you will be. 🙂

Melissa @ I Never Imagined December 20, 2010 at 4:52 pm

What a wonderful idea! I hope to hear all about it from all y’all 🙂

Ana December 20, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Oh, this sounds fun, I wanna be on Team HEAB!!

Amanda B. December 20, 2010 at 4:12 pm

This is a fantastic idea! I just sent in my entry for the giveaway, so hopefully I can participate. Would love to get some more structured strength training in. But either way, go Team HEAB!

lauren December 20, 2010 at 3:58 pm

great organization! Hopefully I can participate!!

Erin @ Big Girl Feats December 20, 2010 at 3:45 pm

I wish I could join the challenge as strength training is something I really want to focus on in 2011 too, but I have some health treatments coming up in Jan. Boo! Good luck with the challenge though – maybe I’ll be able to follow along on the blog!

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 8:49 pm

I hope you do, and best of luck to you. I’ll be sending healing thoughts your way. 🙂

Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday December 20, 2010 at 3:40 pm

Where does the other $20 go?

Is the exercise pre-determined or can you do whatever exercises you want?

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 8:51 pm

The other $20 to goes to Lindsay for her personal training services, and she will provided pre-determined exercises for each team member. When I’ve worked with her in the past, it’s a combo of cardio intervals, strength training, and some steady state cardio.

Felicia (a taste of health with balance) December 20, 2010 at 3:19 pm

I’m not entering, but totally supporting you and you will be great. I understand how frustrating it is to not be able to get your most loved workouts in, but in the end it’ll be worth it and okay! You will be toned in no time!

Healthy Choc December 20, 2010 at 3:19 pm

What a cool idea!!!! Go Team HEAB!

Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 20, 2010 at 3:14 pm

I am not entering 🙂

But just wanted to say, you’re a rockstar for taking this on. You and Charlotte both, and I wish everyone the best of luck…and best of HEALTH!

Maryea (Happy Healthy Mama) December 20, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Sounds like a fun challenge! I always do better with a little group motivation.

melissa @ the delicate place December 20, 2010 at 2:53 pm

it is tough to fit them in! i’ve worked out the last 2 days and meant to this morning but cuddled instead haha. funny, i thought the same thing and will be joining you and Jillian tonight (level 1 shred time!) because i’m sure i can free up 20mins to sweat a bit!

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 8:52 pm

I hope you enjoyed your time with Jillian. I ended up walking the dogs for an hour instead, but hope to get in some Shred action some time this week.

Matt December 20, 2010 at 2:52 pm

What exactly does the brewers yeast do?

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 3:02 pm

Matt, The following info is from this webiste:
Brewers yeast is a one-celled fungus, and used in brewing of beer. Brewers yeast has always been a good source of the very important B vitamins and chromium and is a good source of non-animal protein as well. I’ve been eating a lot of it b/c I read it helps increase milk supply in breastfeeding women. I also really like the taste – it’s great in savory dishes!

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) December 20, 2010 at 2:51 pm

I know it is hard for you now, but once she starts sleeping through the night and you have a semi normal schedule, you will be able to find the time. That is why I get up at 5:50 every morning to work out. It is “me” time and nothing can get in the way of it (unless you have a sick kid and then there is no getting around that). I love the challenge you set up and I think it is great to work out with goals and a team. Definitely keeps you motivated!

Katy (The Singing Runner) December 20, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Sounds like a great idea! 🙂 Good luck!

Christin@purplebirdblog December 20, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Sounds fun, I’m game! Email sent 🙂

Lori December 20, 2010 at 2:37 pm

I’ve been looking for motivation to get my pregnant butt off the ground, and this just may be the key.

This sounds like a great idea, and if I don’t get to join y’all: HAVE FUN!

carlee December 20, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Good luck! Clearly I’m not joining since I’m telling YOU good luck!
your breakfast looks yummy! If you have one cup of oats vs 1/2 does it stay with you better?
I’ve always heard/ experienced quantity does not matter i just get hungry within 4 hours no matter what usually.

HEAB December 20, 2010 at 2:58 pm

Yes, 1 cup rolled oats satiates me so much more than 1/2 cup. I seem to do fine with 1/2 cup oat bran, but when it comes to rolled oats, I need more.

Baking 'n' Books December 20, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Hah – I agree with Carlee’s first sentence! 🙂

GOOD LUCK! And remember, you’ve got a little (cute) one – no pressure. Just do what you can 🙂

Amalfi Girl (EatRunHaveFun!) December 20, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Your post reminds me of “The Game On! Diet” where friends compete against each other to see who can live healthiest, including regular exercise, tons of water, healthy meals, etc. I had a lot of fun doing that program with my friends, so I bet you’ll have a lot of fun with this, too!

Good luck 🙂
