Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
Homemade wheat & sugar-free Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. I subbed quinoa flour for the millet, butter for the Earth Balance, and used stevia instead of sugar.
So good, but honestly, anything served in my moose bowl makes me happy.
This fantastic onesie from Abby. She sent it for Summer for my entry in her Oscar’s Edible Extravaganza Cook Off.

Thanks Abby. I love it!
Date night with my hubby…

Last night, my best friend came over to babysit Summer so that CD and I could attend our annual Mardi Gras party. There was a lot of gumbo involved…Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez, right?
And last but not least, this bowl of warm porridge made me really happy this morning. A cold front moved through yesterday, and it’s once again freezing outside!

Despite what the spoon says, it’s not oatmeal. Can you guess what’s under all that tahini and unsweetened chocolate?????

Oh, the suspense!
Summer’s new onesie is precious!
It looks kind of like white polenta?
I really want to try the cinnamon toast cereal!! My brother loves cinnamon toast crunch – maybe I could get him to eat this healthier version!!
And I made your socca yesterday!!! It was SO, SO gooooood!! I posted about it if you want to see the picture
Have a great week! (and thanks for your sweet e-mail
)
Kasha/buckwheat?

Quinoa flakes?!
is it grits? they look delicious!
I dont know what it is but dark chocolate for breakfast makes me happy!
Uh oh !!Suspense!!!! That looks foamy-hmmmm…
FAIL-can’t think of anything !!!
-Smriti
I am guessing the breakfast is maybe quinoa porridge or something using quinoa?
Yay for dark chocolate though!
Hi Heather!

I’m on a candida cleanse right now, so I’m avoiding all sugar – but I can have stevia! I’m desperate to know the secret in substituting stevia for sugar, since I know the amounts must be very different. For example, how much stevia did you use in this cinnamon toast crunch recipe? And what kind – powder or drops? Any insight would be MUCH appreciated! Thank you!!
Desi
Hi Desi,
I used 1 packet of NuNaturals stevia for the cinnamon toast crunch. I usually use 1/2 to 1 whole packet if a recipe calls for a few TBSP of sugar. If it calls for 1/2 cup or more, then I’ll use the NuNaturals stevia baking blend and usually cut the amount called for in half b/c I don’t like my recipes super sweet, and stevia tends to be sweeter than sugar. I also really like the NuNaturals vanilla stevia drops for coffee – I use about 5 to 7 or a large mug of coffee.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, HEATHER!!! I am VERY excited to try this!!
Cream of rice or wheat? If so, try it topped with ice cream too
It looks like grits. I like that oatmeal spoon. Summer is going to look cute in her new onesie.
quinoa meal? I make (baked, sometimes) sprouted quinoa porridge almost every morning for breakfast. I can’t get enough!
Love that spoon!!! What do I think is in the bowl….maybe polenta or garbanzo bean flour or quinoa meal or something?
Grits? Cream of Wheat?
Whatever it is, it look yummy!
Have a great Sunday, Heather!
Where did you get that spoon? I need one ASAP!
Matt,
It’s from Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62159212/vintage-silverware-silver-plate-granola. I requested “oatmeal”, and the artist happily obliged.
It looks like cream of wheat to me….
Love your oatmeal spoon!! I obviously need one
Yay for moose bowl! I LOVE your oatmeal spoon!
You’re bowl looks super creamy…maybe cream of wheat? Hmm, that seems to easy for you though!
cool oatmeal spoon!
grits?
Your cereal looks YUMMY! And I love that oatmeal spoon
Cream of buckwheat, maybe?! Loving that spoon. Sooo cute
I’m thinking cream of rice or grits. I’m leaning towards cream of rice. Sounds like you’ve had a great weekend! Enjoy the rest of it Heather!
cream of….quinoa?
that cereal looks so yummy! i just ate breakfast, so it looks like i will be making that for lunch! and chances are i will be having it for dinner, too, since cinnamon toast crunch was my favorite!
i’m declaring it breakfast-for-every-meal day
Cute spoon!
looks like grits to me!
looks like grits!
Looks like grits. But who cares, that chocolate steals all the attention away!
I’m thinking cream of quinoa in that bowl!
And um, yes… I’ll be needing a plate exactly like your Mardi Gras party plate of eats… yum!
GRITS! Southern grits with maybe some kerrygold? mmmmm…yum!
Hmm looks like cream of wheat?? Cream of buckwheat?
Ooh, you tease, you!
I think there could be some quinoa in there somewhere? I love the spoon, especially as it’s not being used for what it says!
And I ‘m loving that cereal too. Plus, if you cook it in a smaller pan so it’s thicker, you get a lovely chewy flatbread; two recipes for the price of one!
Definitely looks like grits to me!
Ha! Love the oatmeal spoon! Is it grits??
I’ll bet it’s cream of wheat or rice or something. Even if it isn’t, I still love cream of rice– I ate it for breakfast this morning!
That spoon! That oatmeal spoon! Haha it’s so stinking adorable!
I LOVE that spoon!! And I’m so trying tahini + chocolate soon. Brilliant.
Grits!
I want to say the mystery photo it is a porridge made with ground quinoa, I am curious to learn what it is as it looks really yummy!
Summer is going to look super in that onesi!
Ana
Ok, I totally just had to grab a square of 70% chocolate after looking at that mystery bowl of deliciousness. Chocolate is just too good!
Ana
Ana,
Always happy to spread the chocolate love.
My fave cereal growing up was Golden Grahams and my mom made s’mores with them…..hmmmmm…..giving me ideas!!!!
Is that cream of wheat or grits? It kind of looks like grits- I miss those so much!
Looks like Malt O Meal. I used to love it when I was a kid, it was in a yellow box and was a hot cereal and it looked just like the above cereal. Brings back warm happy memories
That bowl looks amazing and the spoon is super cool!
Okay! That is just plain wrong!!! I am salivating!! What if I can’t wait till tomorrow. That looks so so yummy delish! OMG~
okay okay. I will be back. Can’t wait.
Looks like grits to me. I loved Cinnamon Toast Crunch growing up. That and Trix were my most requested.
That looks like Cream of Wheat underneath it, but knowing you, it’s not. It’s probably cream of ground quinoa or something similar
How awesome of your friends to come over and babysit for you. Friends like that deserve a special place in heaven..they allowed a new mom time out, and new parents time to be together. That is wonderful for you and for you and CD! I wish I had friends like that
And what a cute spoon. But not as cute as you and CD look in your pic!
I thought at first amaranth, but I am casting another vote for cream of quinoa. I saw the cereal a few days ago on Ashley’s blog (edibleperspective) but I daren’t make it- I would eat it all in one go:D
Eimer Rose,
Yep, 1 batch = 1 serving.
I was thinking of making those cinnamon- toast crunch crackers, or Ashley’s cocoa crackers, but I can’t do added sugar right now, so i’m glad it worked with stevia for you!
I need one of those oatmeal spoons, by the way
i just want to say that i have no idea…but whatever it is, it looks delicious!
i am really missing tahini… i nursed a 1L bottle of it for the longest time and took it for granted. it went in everything, including my eggs, tuna, pizzas…you name it! now i’m in tahini withdrawal and your breakfast pictures taunt me.
It looks like farina.
I’m excited to try your homemade cinnamon cereal! Where did you get that spoon?
Hilary,
The spoon is from Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62159212/vintage-silverware-silver-plate-granola. I requested “oatmeal”, and the artist agreed.
I’m not good at guessing, but it looks like malt-o-meal – I always used to sneak it when my little brother and sister ate it when they were babies!
I have no idea what it is, but it looks lovely! (Especially with the chocolate on top). I’ve been topping my oat bran with chocolate chips lately
It looks like grits, or maybe cream of wheat…although I’ve never had either!? haha but i just spent an awkward amount of time in the breakfast aisle at WF trying to pick some new grain options…..what ends up in my basket- oat bran
Can’t hate on the ol’ classic!! xoxoxox
Is that amaranth?
Man, I have been battling how to get that right.
I keep coming up with gluey stickiness…which is still good and I procced to flavor and treat like hummus. NO FOOD LEFT BEHIND! LOL.
Why do I have a feeling it’s something totally random?
I’d like to say grits…but it looks kind of smooth. I’d also like to say cream of wheat…but it still doesn’t look quite right. Lol, cream of spelt?
I’ve been putting cinnamon and stevia on corn chex lately for the cinnamon toast effect! I have no idea what could be in that bowl, you’re always so creative with your food choices!
it looks like dessert grits!
ooooh cinnamon toast crunch brings me back to being a lil pup hauled around on endless summer camping roadtrips, when wewere allowed to buy the junky cereal! love all things cinnamon!
Looks like cream of wheat! Yum!
garbanzo bean tofu possibly?!!
My guess is for porridge made with quinoa flour! The reason I thought this is because I went through a big quinoa flake porridge phase and it had a similar colour
Grits?
PS, just picked up some Tahini for the first time this weekend and am looking forward to exploring this favorite ingredient of yours.
It looks lilke either farro made Edible Ashley style, Farina, or Grits!
It looks like whole grain rice porridge… but I’m guessing it may be quinoa since you use it last week?
I’m so happy you made the cereal! I’m counting down the days to AZ, my friend!
It looks like polenta but it’s not yellow so I don’t know
That looks like farina, but could also be grits. Not sure!
Looks yummy whatever it is!! haha
Awww…some of my favorite people I never see anymore. I love The Hudsons!! I hope you all had a fun time!!
Is that the Wheat Farina Cereal?
xoxo
