Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
Last week, I received samples of tahini and almond butter from Eden Nuts.

Sadly, the Almondie Almond Butter will have to wait until after Lent, but the tahini? Well, let’s just say that the jar is almost gone. I’ve been eating it with my bowls of oat bran and unsweetened chocolate as well as atop the following dishes. (Again, please excuse cell phone photos. New camera just arrived, but I haven’t had a chance to open it yet.)

Oven baked sweet potato topped with refried beans and Max Sesame Tahini Spread cheeze sauce (tahini + nutritional yeast + water).
Warning: Weird HEAB combo ahead…although, I guess the one above was kind of weird as well.

Scrambled eggs stirred together with canned pumpkin, topped with crumbled bacon and Max Tahini.
We normally buy the Joyva brand in bulk from Amazon. The Max Tahini tastes sweeter and not quite as bitter. However, it’s also much thicker, and I prefer my tahini on the runnier side. So, although the Max doesn’t drizzle very well, the taste totally makes up for it. It’s also the only tahini on the market made using raw, sprouted, whole, un-hulled, USDA Certified Organically-grown sesame seeds. Check out the nutrition stats:

Hello calcium.
Would you like to try a jar of Max Tahini Spread or perhaps another seed or nut butter from Eden Nuts? To view all options, please click here, and one random winner will get to choose a jar of his or her choice (excluding the Almondie almond butter as I’ll giving a jar of it away in another giveaway). For a chance to win, simply leave a comment below telling me about the strangest combination you’ve ever eaten involving nut butter. Personally, I have too many to list. The comments will stay open through Wednesday, April 6.
Off to play with my new camera!

I’d really like to try the Tahini! I’ve been wanting to give it a try but it’s always so expensive! As far as the strangest combination I’ve ever eaten involving nut butter….I don’t think I have anything odd! I’m kind of a nut butter purist lol. I prefer it slathered on a piece of toast or straight out of the jar
I usually slather mine on sweet potatoes! Nothing too crazy but I believe I could put it on just about anything!
Mine is: peanut butter, hot sauce, orange marmalade, fresh basil and curry. Hot sauce + PB = great combo.
omg this sounds amazing. thank you.
I’d love to try the tahini — never had it before!
Strangest combo with nut butter? we’ve made hamburgers topped with peanut butter — it was kind of strange but really good. How could it not be?
Yum! I love sweet potatoes. I must try them with beans and tahini! Sweet potatoes with cashew butter=my FAVE!
Weirdest nut butter combo? Burgers topped with peanut butter and pb for fry dipping, too!
Seeing as to how I have made all of those kinds of nut/seed butter at home but Brazil nut butter, that’s the one I’d try. It’s been on my list of things to make but I somehow never get around to it.
Sorry, no good stories about nut butter combos. I use it in baking, with oat bran or Scottish oats, on top of toast and with yogurt, but that’s it. I’ve been meaning to try almond butter with a sweet potato but haven’t gotten around to that yet either!
Thanks for the tahini review! Anything that is sweeter, has my name all over it! I am not the hugest tahini fan. It’s fine but I prefer other fatty goodness like coconut butter, coconut oil, sunflower seed butter, or PB more than tahini but am willing to give the Max a try.
As for your camera arrving…HAVE FUN!!!!! If you have questions, I am no expert but was in your shoes with a brand new piece of technology that was a wee bit overwhelming to me not too long ago, so just lmk
Does it count if I’ve never had a strange combo? Growing up I was never an adventerous eater. (I hated pb & j…yeah, I was a really strange child) Only recently have I been trying new combinations but I’m still not that adventerous or original.
When my sister put some pb on her oatmeal one time I tried it as well (just a month or so ago) and it blew me away! So incredible!
This morning I had pumpkin pie oat bran (pumpkin with cloves, ginger, and cinnamon), but I also REALLY wanted some raspberries and chocolate, so I threw them in after a few bites. When I was about halfway done I decided it needed some sweetness so I grabbed a jar of chestnut spread & decided that while I was already up, I might as well get some chocolate almond butter in there along with everything else. Whipped cream was involved. I like breakfast
I can’t really decide on whether I want pistachio, almond, or hazelnut butter — so many options!
I would love to try the Tahini! I make my own hummus, but always leave out tahini because its kind of pricey and I’m in college. I always eat my carrots with nut butter which I think is personally normal but I’ve definitely gotten some funny looks!
I think any of the stuff we used to do with Kabocha/almond butter/cinnamon was over the top in hindsight.. the volume alone.. “but i don’t understand whyyyy i am gainging weight if the stuff is only 10 calories an ounce.. ” hahahahaha…
Would love to try a jar of that stuff…
CB,
Ah yes, the low calorie kabocha
They have some great looking products. I think I would prefer the thicker tahini that’s less bitter. I’m not a huge fan of tahini to begin with. I eat some super strange combos, like my bean sprouts with mustard greens and tomato past…instead of pasta. As for weird uses for nut butters…I don’t do weird things with that so much. I’m kind of a purist when it comes to them. Almond butter on my sweet potatoes was about as weird (or what some think is weird) as I’ve gone.
almond butter with homemade jerky… 2 hours ago!
Heather, I tried a sweet potato w/ canned salmon, tahini, and pepper, as you had posted a few days ago. Def the most unusual way I’ve eaten nut/seed butter and it was AWESOME! Oh, one time my hubby made a sandwich with banana bread, globs of PB, and a spicy black bean burger. I didn’t try it, but it was definitely unusual
Carrie S, I think I would get along really well with you and your husband.
PB + Bacon sandwich or a PB&J omelet.
Peanut butter with stir-fry veggies… mmmmmmm
I love tahini so so much. I had some for lunch, in fact, with carrot sticks. I’ve started buying the Cedar’s brand from Whole Foods…it’s only $4.99 for 16 oz. and it’s creamy/runny and not bitter. I’m definitely up for trying a new brand, though! The weirdest nut butter combo that I’ve ever eaten was before my diet change. I had a friend who loved peanut butter, cheese and pickle sandwiches, so I gave it a try. It wasn’t as awful as it sounds, and minus the pickle it was sort of good.
I would love to try that tahini- I have it on my shopping list now too…
The strangest nutbutter combo I ever tried was creamcheese, almond butter, fresh strawberry, cucumber and sprout sandwich, but thinking about that now doesn’t sound too weird, just yummy!
I put nut butter on everything! Probably the weirdest is peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a bowl of chili. yummmmmm.
I don’t know if any of my cominations are weird but I do put almond butter on everything. My fiancĂ© thinks it’s insane how fast I go through jars. Everything tastes better with nut butter ontop.
I’m always up for trying a new seed or nut butter (I FINALLY bought some sunflower seed butter – why did I wait this long? so delicious!)… I think it would be fun to try brazil nut or pistacio butter!
I would love to try the tahini! I love it blended in hummus and other foods, but I’ve never drizzled it by itself on anything. I don’t have any weird nut butter recipes, I just pretty much each almond butter or sunflower seed butter everyday, mostly by themselves or with some fruit or oatmeal. Yum!!
P.S. I still look forward to reading your blog everyday, even with the cellphone pictures
Love your attitude toward food and life
Thanks Kathleen.
That hazelnut one looks tasty.
We don’t really eat nut butters in weird combos at our house, so not much to say. Waffles with peanut butter and butter and maybe a little sugar isn’t weird, I think. I usually spoon it straight out of the jar.
I would love to try the Tahini. Weirdest combo has to be potatoes, scrambled eggs, almond butter and honey. It doesn’t really sound that strange when I type it but my husband kept giving me a dirty look until he had a bite and agreed it was yummy!
I just love the nutrition of raw nuts as opposed to roasted ones. ALways looking for more ways to get in calcium and iron
Mmmm, strangest way I’ve eaten nut butter has been atop a salad with a runny egg, peppers, corn, avocado, black beans… yes, it was yummy
Happy day, my friend!
I would LOVE to try pistachio butter!
I know this isn’t weird, but I do like a little warmed up coconut butter on top of cold banana – it sort of of cools off and hardens like a magic shell.
Brazil nut butter? Yes please.
As a fifth grader I was all about: potato bread + peanut butter + pickle slices. It’s been a while, I wonder if I still like it?
Hmmm… strangest combo??? I would have to say I get a lot of weird looks at work when I eat the Kabocha squash and almond butter combo idea that I got from your blog.
I’ve never tried tahini on a sweet potato! Only nut butter (which I love). Such a fun giveaway- I’d love to try the pumpkin seed or hazelnut butter (i’d probably take me a week to pick
)
Most of my weird nut butter combo’s come from you! My husband and I are hooked on almond butter, banana, and bacon wrapped in a rice flour tortilla!
When I was younger I loved covering my pancakes with peanut butter and syrup. The other kids though I was weird!
Vanessa,
That makes me happy.
All of their nut butters look great! I would like to try the Almondie Nut Butter!
I don’t remember why I decided to try this……. but I am a huge fan of almond butter on baby dill pickles!! It’s perfect when I want a snack but can’t decide if I want something sweet or tangy
I’ve never had tahini before but would love to try it!
The weirdest nut butter combo is with sweet potato. It was so good though!
I would love to try that new tahini…I buy the Joyva brand too and I agree that the runny texture is the best, although it is slightly too bitter for my taste. Also, I don’t have any weird nut butter combos – I’m not an adventurous eater, and I don’t eat meat, which probably eliminates many of the truly strange combos! I do love Justin’s chocolate almond butter on toasted english muffin..that’s heaven!
Not only am I obsessed with Tahini….but I love dipping sheets of Nori in it, also drizzel a little bit on top of my savory oats..so weird, i know. I also spread almond butter on my slices of roasted brussel sprouts. Actually…i’m trying to think of something I would not spread nut butter on and cannot think of one thing
hmm strangest…. ive seen sooo many strange combinations on blogs that i dont even consider anything with nut butter strange anymore. and EVERYTHING tastes better with nut butter. i guess one of the weirdest things ive done is put almond butter with black beans, almond milk, and a tiny bit of honey – microwaved and mashed together – SO GOOD.
Hazelnut butter! I guess ground turkey + pumpkin + nut butter is my weirdest combo, but I know that pales in comparison to the meals that make their way around the blogosphere.
Hello, pistachio butter!??! Why have I never had this before?? Weirdest use for peanut butter: on a peanut butter, jelly, and cheese sandwich. Not my idea, but it’s not bad!
There’s so many to choose from!! I would either go with the tahini or the hazelnut spread.
As far as a strange combo? I guess peanut butter and pickles. Which is pretty classically weird. As a self-proclaimed nut butter-lover, I need to up my game and get more creative!
I love tahini and hemp seed butter on raw kraut! Yum.
That’s probably as weird as it gets for me. Otherwise the standard nut butter in oatmeal, tahini in hummus, etc. Not sure which nut butter I’d want to try most. Pistachio I think!
I have yet to buy (or try) tahini but would love to!!
I think the strangest thing I’ve done with nut butter is to put it on a plain omelet with jam, but that’s nothing compared to your creative creations, Heather
Pistachio looks amazing!
I’ve never done anything too weird… I put peanut butter on parsnips and roasted them once. It was good but I cooked them too long. Oops!
I need that!! I like veggies stir fried in a mix of hot sauce, mustard, tahini, and hummus, that’s kind of weird I guess? Then i use them in an omelet.
I think your pumpkin/egg/bacon/tahini combo looks great! I’m not a bacon fan, but otherwise yum. I got the salmon+tahini thing from you too and is now a regular lunch feature for me- had it today in fact!
Have fun with the camera:)
I really want to try your tahini + chocolate bowl, and I’ve only ever had it IN hummus!
My strangest (but most delicious) nut butter combo:
a wrap for lunch with grilled chicken, bbq sauce, crunchy peanut butter, and mashed sweet potato. yum.
Nothing too crazy! Though I did make that chocolate rice bread and made a pb sandwich out of it. Yum!
I have never had Tahini, but my boyfriend talks about it fairly often (more than once, at least).
I put peanut butter on most things. Peanut butter and cheese on Saltines is really good. Er, gross. Maybe both. I also once made a peanut butter, jelly, and chicken sandwich. I was reallly hungry.
I’ve never had Walnut butter before, but it sounds yummy. I can’t really think of any weird nut butter combos, but my fiance’s mother makes homemade sesame paste and we put that over homemade noodles with steamed bok choy, grated cucumbers and this dark, salty soy paste with scrambled eggs. Good combination of sweet, salty & savory!
Beth, yeah, that does sound really good!
Oooooooh I would love to try the walnut butter or pistachio butter or pumpkin seed butter. I’m happy with my fairly normal uses. Most favorite thing right now (when I’m not dipping dark chocolate w/ raspberries directly in to scoop it up) is sauteed bananas in coconut oil topped w/ almond butter and honey. Mmmmmmm.
Oh I would be totally tickled to get to try any of their nut/seed butters, but I do love me some tahini big time. I have been known to top things with tahini + parm often. Not sure where that falls on your weirdness scale but I personally cannot think of many traditional dishes that combine those 2 things!
How fun that you got to try a new product and loved it! It’s the best when that happens.
Strangest combo is probably goat cheese and almond butter in a tortilla- but it was SO good!
Lately I’ve been roasting sweet potatoes with coconut butter and a dash of garlic powder. I think it’s totally weird but it doesn’t stop me from devouring it!
hmmm I wonder what the Pumpkin seed butter would taste like. Or the hazelnut butter mixed with chocolate…
I don’t think I’ve made anything too strange with almond butter. I need to try some of your creations!
I have actually never had tahini straight up (only if it’s been an ingredient in a product like hummus), so I’d love to try it. The strangest thing I’ve ever put peanut butter on was carrots . . . recommended by someone in the blog world–I can’t remember who. It wasn’t bad, but not my favorite combo.
I like tahini but loove nutbuttahs!!!! I like to put it on savory foods like sweet taters and veggies but a slather of it goes well with banana soft serve or just some good unsweetend Bakers chocolate square!
I’ve tried a couple of different Tahinis, but I like Joyva the best! You can’t beat that drizzle.
I’ve never tried Tahini but would really like to! I don’t don’t many crazy things with nut butters, but I do eat carrots with almond butter and my coworkers think it’s gross… but they eat peanut butter with celery so what’s the big deal, right?
Kim, your combo is much better in my opinion. Raw celery is completely pointless even when slathered in PB
Mmmm…too many good nut/seed butters to choose from!
My man likes to dip potato chips in pb. And I will sometimes put AB and jelly on scrambled eggs. Not that weird though — I think this is motivation to get more adventurous!
Yum Yum! I LOVE nut butters. on Everything. But I think the one that gets me the strangest looks from my parents is the fried egg with peanut butter on top, then put on toast that’s been spread with ketchup! Yummers!
funky yet delicious:
sandwich, quesadilla or cabbage/lettuce wrap spread with a miso, nut butter, dubliner irish cheese or strong cheddar, tomato, avocado, and sometimes bacon.
pretty obsessed with mixing miso with peanut or almond butter for awhile now, it’s so good!
the strangest combo i have eaten is pb and chicken-pomegranate-walnut stew on pita bread. it seemed really strange at the time but actually i guess the whole walnut peanut butter thing worked well. also dark chocolate dreams + cheddar cheese.
I once had avocado peanut butter (vegan) sushi. Odd-sounding yet pleasantly surprising.
Weirdest combo…hmmmmm…let’s see…thinking…chicken and peanut butter. Probably not too strange, but that is it for me. I recently tried some Tahini and wasn’t a fan, but thinking maybe a different brand.
Almond butter balsamic veggie dip
Sometimes I’ll top a salad with nut butter- walnut or cashew is good-, nutritional yeast, cayenne, liquid aminos. Dunno how weird/not weird that is? I’ve also made raw “hummus” with all sorts of nut butters in place of tahini. Tahini is still the best, but variety is good
Thanks!!
your combos never look weird to me, only DELICIOUS!
and I could add nut butter to anything, so… I don’t really know – I suppose looking through the “normal world” view at my eats, thinning nut butter into a sauce for veggies + quinoa probably looks weird, or just dipping veggies like broccoli + carrots into it…
although I prefer a thinner tahini too, that would be an easy fix and I would love to try this – thanks for the opportunity!
Honestly, I don’t have a lot of interesting combos. I really hadn’t even heard of other nut butters besides peanut until about 2 years ago. And I also didn’t know that you could use PB on things other than PB sandwiches:)
But with your help, I’ve branched out since then! My favorite is still PB in my oatmeal.
I’m not the biggest fan of tahini, but maybe the sweeter/less bitter version would get me hooked!! My weirdest (well, maybe not so weird for others!) combination was nori + almond butter + maple syrup rolled into a nice compact wrap…so good!
I’ve never heard of that company! Is it accessible in many places or do you have to order?
I’ve never heard of Pistachio Butter! But I love Cashew so probably that. Or the Tahini – still haven’t done that yet.
Lately I’ve been enjoying flax seed meal flatbread with coconut cacao bliss & tahini…maybe not too off the wall for this crowd but it weirds my fiance out
Holy cow those nut butters are $$!! They look really good though. The strangest nut butter combination is probably not that strange compared to some of your HEAB! I put naturally peanut or almond butter on a hole wheat tortilla and drizzle maple sryup over it. It’s the best bedtime snack and super healthy with just a tiny bit of sugar. Love it!
Ok, here’s a weird one..
I quite like to put egg whites (which I don’t even really like anyways?) with peanut butter, drizzle it with syrup, sprinkle on cayenne, and then top the whole thing with oat bran cereal.
…that is probably the weirdest thing I eat. Period.
Danae,
Weird to most people I’m sure, but I think I would love it.
I think one of my “weirder” combos actually came from you, Heather! I tried the Avocado/banana/nut butter wrap and loved it–who would’ve thunk?! thanks for the idea
And I think the pistachio butter sounds really interesting!
I love tahini only in hummus, BUT my weirdest (most deliciuos) combo is quinoa, hummus, balsamic, and raisins. Bing bang BOOM it is so good!
Pistachio butter!
I’m pretty standard when it comes to using nut butters… usually on an apple. Exciting, right?
I would love to try the hazelnut butter!!
I pretty much can put almond or peanut butter on anything! But the one that grosses out my 8yr old is sweet potato with cinnamon topped with 2 poached eggs with chipolte powder and sea salt heavily drizzled with almond butter.
Eileen, that combo would have grossed my 8 year old self out as well, but I’d love it now!
You go girl, spread the tahini love!
Hope your new camera is HEABtastic ;0)
Ok my combo isn’t that strange but it is delicious nonetheless… spread almond butter on toast and top with sliced pear and cinnamon. This is the most perfect combo of nutty, grainy, and sweet that I’ve come across to date!
I would try the tahini, I am curious, I’ve never had tahini before.
I generally put almond/nut butter on sweet potatoe. it’s not that wierd, but it grosses my husband out.
Strangest combo….pb on a sweet potato. I know! So weird!
Thanks HEAB!
I’d like to try the brazil nut butter or walnut butter!
My weird nut butter experience was on a grass fed burger. SO GOOD!
I tried a peanut butter and onion sandwich once. It was not as revolting as I’d expected, but it was also not something I’d care to eat on a daily basis!
Thanks for the giveaway! The hazelnut butter looks quite intriguing…
I think most (non bloggie) people think it’s weird how much I love nut butter. I could for real eat it on anything.
My dinner tonight was black bean noodles +peanut butter mixed with a lot of sriracha+ and some dry roasted peanuts on top. It was delicious!
yesterday’s dinner: steamed spinach mixed w/ diced anchovies, topped with runny egg, & drizzled w/ tahini (love that joyva! – but want to try this new one, too!)
Thanks for the amazing giveaway!!! I guess the weirdest nut butter combo I’ve had was peanut butter and pickles on challah (egg bread). Pretty much every day I eat a banana with almond or peanut butter though which is pretty much my favorite thing in the entire world. Would love to try the tahini or cashew butter! I do want to try your savory oats with tahini…
Hmmm, my weirdest combination would probably be:
cashew butter, couscous, broccoli, carrots, tempeh, baby corn, green peppers, terriyaki sauce, pineapple, and then some crushed pretzels…it was a weird combination, but really good
Hooray for getting the new camera! I hope you love it
Sadly, I have only tried peanut butter and the craziest I can get is peanut butter with oreos! Please be a matchmaker and match me up with hazelnut!
I feel like I have tried nut butter on just about everything. I think the strangest, however, would have to be my nut butter, egg, and bacon sandwich. I had this crazy job where I worked three twelve’s a week with only a half hour lunch and because I was basically working, sleeping, and eating on the run I had to get creative. This seemed to be the only combo of foods that I could consume that would keep me going for a long time.
Oh, wait, in writing this I thought of something else…..corn chips with peanut butter-raisin dip. Let’s just say don’t ask about that one.
Megan,
I’m intrigued and actually think that last combo sounds good.
When I was 5 I made my own snack of a banana with peanut butter wrapped in american cheese slices. NOT GOOD.
Strangest combination? I can’t think of anything too off the charts, so I will just say that I love almond butter crusted carrots & yucca fries. I also really like nut butter mixed into glazes for fish, tofu, and other meats. I wonder how almond butter would taste as a condiment on a grass fed finished bison burger on a challah bun?
Great, now I want almond butter. How many more days of Lent are there?
Amelia,
It tastes great – at least on the burger anyway. Never tried it with a challah bun.
I’d love to try the cashew or walnut butter! I’ve never had either.
That Tahini sounds really good! I’m not a very big fan of its bitter taste, but I love hummus, so maybe this would be a great compromise!
My weirdest nut-butter combo? Living in a dorm and eating in a dining hall, its kind of hard to create particularly weird food combos, but perhaps my guac/almond butter dressing combo would qualify? Everyone sure gives me the stare at dinner at least!
The other day I had a cheesy bagel with a fried egg, mashed avocado, raspberry jelly and tahini. Just thinking about it makes me drool!
Kaleigh,
Just so you know, I’m drooling as well.
whoa… brazil nut and pistachio for sure! I have yet to attempt to make either of them.
no strange combinations for me really. But I did make Ashleys’ smoked paprika almond butter, and made a madras curry version too. LOVE LOVE LOVE them! Savory nut butter… a new adventure for this girl
Well, I don’t know that I can come even close to some of your nut combos (he, he!), but I got some weird looks from my family when I drizzled tahini on my lentil soup the other day… I am in a tahini phase right now, too. It’s so good! I’d love to try a new brand.
Errr…. (dark choc mixed with any nut butter atop squash of any kind (sheepish look!) dark choc mixed with nut butter on yogurt.. well on everything i eat. i don’t care if it’s weird
I love pumpkin seeds so the natural choice for me would be the pumpkin seed butter, however the max tahini sounded pretty awesome too! My weirdest combo? probably pb and eggwhites on toasted ezekial – also have had it on top of a boca burger, neither was particularily earthshattering.
I’ve never had tahini paste but really want to!
I’m trying to think of the weirdest thing I’ve put nut butter on and it’s a tough one! The only thing I can think of is sweet potatoes, but I KNOW that I’ve had weirder combos before!!
honestly, i don’t have very many crazy combos involving nut butter although i love it like crazy. in high school, i would often eat sandwiches (with no bread) of dried fruit sandwiching peanut butter–
The Pistachio butter for sure! The strangest my nut/seed butter combos have gotten is tahini on shalgam masala.
yum! Tahini on tomatoes! Those nut butters look divine, pistachio? Wow.
oh goodness, a new butter to be obsessed with. I really like how much iron it has! Does it stay that creamy too? If so, I am impressed once again!
Lindsay,
Yep, stays creamy, although I did have to give it a few good stirs when I first opened it. Good stuff!
probably putting almond butter in the pasta sauce
I’d love to try it on top of oat bran with bakers chocolate-HEAB style. The tahini looks good but I’d also like to try the cashew butter.
I don’t really have a strange combo but favorite for veggies is coconut oil and pb for stir fry!
hi heather!
i was just curious to know if you’ve gotten a lipid panel done recently? i eat a lot of coconut butter and nut butter and avocados (daily), and wondering if i should be concerned? thanks!
Crys,
Yes, and all my levels were great. I wouldn’t worry – you’re fine. I don’t believe that fat intake causes heart disease anyway. Just stay away from sugar and make sure you’re getting a good amount of omega 3′s.
I would try the tahini, so make my own hummus! The weirdest combo….. I always put sunflowerseed butter on my eggs!
That’s tough but I suppose PB and ketchup/mustard with cucumber slices counts?
Hmmm…pistachio or pumpkin seed butter sounds interesting????
I need to try that tahini. Joyva is my favorite brand too. LOVE the runniness. My jars rarely last a full week. I eat it on a spoon.
I guess the weirdest way is in tahini-lime cookies. If that counts as a nut butter. hehe.
Katie,
I still need to make those cookies!
Those look SO good! I haven’t tried tahini yet due to my minuscule budget, but I want to so bad. And almond butter is the very best
Probably the weirdest thing I’ve done with nut butter is mashing it up with a potato… yum!
I want to try the hazlenut butter! I could make my own nutella =p
I would love to try that tahini, especially considering I only eat sprouted grains/seeds. I don’t think I’ve necessarily created any weird combinations, but dates+goat cheese+almond butter is super delicious!
I like pb on eggs. I actually like pb on just about anything.
Yummy, I so want to try that tahini. My strangest food combo was tahini and chocolate which I like. Thanks for the suggestion.
Stefanie,
Welcome.
I’d try any of them! But the pistachio butter & tahini sound really good.
Hmm.. weirdest combo was probably back in the day when I’d eat peanut butter & pickle sandwiches (legume, i know… but still)
Now, the oddest combo I’ve done is scrambled eggs with a drizzle of nut butter + honey + sprinkle of salt. I got the “so… pregnant?” question from a co-worker on that one.
Ah, it refreshing to see a new (to me atleast) brand offering nut butters! Glad to hear it passes the HEAB test. My strangest combination would be almond butter on my sushi : ) It was delish.
Would love to try the tahini!
I dip my raw carrots in cashew butter all the time.
Your weird combinations never seem weird to me. I always look at them and think, “Why haven’t I ever done that?” Eggs + pumpkin? Genius!
I think the strangest combination I’ve ever made using nut butter is mixing cashew butter into tomato sauce.
Spicy peanut butter with a burger is probably the weirdest combo I’ve tried.
I’ve always wanted to try hazelnut butter!
Molasses and tahini is a match made in heaven!. Amazing drizzled over rice cakes or on toast. I <3 Tahini!
love a good tahini sauce for falafel/chickpea patties!
jealous of your new toy

OMG I really want to try the brazil nut butter! They’re one of my favorite nuts and I have never seen them in nut butter form!
I eat nut butters with everything. I like ice cream or fro yo with nut butter instead of “normal” ice cream toppings. I have also eaten nut butter with scramble eggs, popcorn, various vegetables, and other things that it doesn’t “go” with.
i’d love to try tahini! the only weird nut butter combo i ever tried was in middle school when i was dared to try peanut butter + pickle. it wasn’t great….
I think my strangest was almond butter, curry, cinnamon, yogurt, pasta, and steamed veggies. It was, well, interesting…. but I don’t think I will ever make it again
Love this giveaway! You’re so generous to do so many giveaways
<3
avocado puddin’ with spinach, kale, cocoa, ch-ch-ch-chia and an enormous plop ‘o nut butter.
i use my tahini in much the same way you do, though… all mushed up with nooch on top of pan-fried spaghetti squash, garlic, onions and kale! insta-alfredo!
I’m not sure if this is strange, but I like to mix PB with cream cheese + a little sweetener and spread it on toast.
And pistachio butter?! What an interesting idea!!! I’d love to try some!
Amy H,
I’ve used that combo a pancake topper – but with Justin’s almond butter instead of PB. Delicious!
YUMM!! I love all of your concoctions! The weirder the better, if you ask me. I love it when I my food gets mushed together.
I have to say one of the weirder things I eat with peanut/almond/chocolate peanut butter is cottage cheese + yogurt + nut butter. Or cottage cheese + jelly + nut butter. Or just yogurt + nut butter. I love the creamy texture of the yogurt/CC combined with the chunkiness of the nut butter (I like my nuts chunky…twss) Chris thinks it’s disgusting and smells nasty – this coming from a guy who eats sweetbreads (note: they are not actually sweet breads) and tongue tacos. :-S
Hayley,
My Chris isn’t a fan of my nut butter combos either. I love chunky nut butters as well, and my favorite combo used to be cottage cheese + whey protein powder + crunchy PB. Another thing Chris can’t stand is cottage cheese – ha, he couldn’t even watch me eat that one!
I love that you post your “interesting” combinations! I eat wacky bowls of various foods all the time, but am too scared to post them. Probably because mine are definitely more gross than yours
Would love to try pistachio butter. For me, tahini sounds strange
In middle school I used to live off of peanut-butter and bologna sandwiches. The thought of it now makes me cringe:S
Well, I would love to try their Almond Butter, but since that is not an option then I will go with the Hazelnut Butter, yum!
A weird combination…. well, I don’t think this is too weird, but some do so here goes: I like to eat almond butter on top of a graham cracker and sprinkled with salt! Have you tried to add a sprinkle of kosher salt to a spoon of almond butter? It is kinda cool
I love AB on anything, be that a weird combo or not!
Ana
Ana, I have but never on a graham cracker. That sounds delicious right about now!
peanut butter, mashed cauliflower and scallion&parsley flavored hummus in a wrap. sounds gross, tastes diiiiivinnee
Anne,
I’d eat it.
honestly, i don’t think i’ve ever had a strange peanut butter combo! i’m pretty straightforward when it comes to my peanut butter usage, generally it goes with something sweet! i’m boring, what can i say
Oooh, they all look good. I like the tahini!
I love strange nut butter combos. Pistachio butter goes lovely with tuna…I’ve made sushi with it. Sunbutter + cottage cheese + kimchi was strange but rather tasty. Oh, and I’ve put peanut butter on hamburgers before.
Hmm….im stumped on my strangest nut butter combo….i”ll have to think about it
That pistachio butter looks amazing! I didn’t even know it existed!!!
i make a spread out of extra firm tofu, peanut/almond butter, honey, banana, and cinnamon…so great! but most people think it’s really wierd
Not the weirdest combo, but I love a brown rice wrap, almond butter, and banana rolled up. Also, almond and PB parsnip and carrot fries, yummmmie!
This tahini sounds perfect. I just made a batch of raw tahini tonight here.
I’d love to try the Pistachio butter! I’ve been on a pistachio kick lately and I’ve never tried pistachio butter.
I’m also a huge fan of strange combinations and have tried nut butters with nearly everything! I love tahini and tomato sauce (which isn’t weird to me but seems to weird to some). Probably the strangest is when I put tahini in hot chocolate. I loved it!
I used to have cheese, almond butter and banana sandwiches. That’s the only strange one I can think of so far. I try to get creative.
I’m fond of eating peanut butter spread on chicken, sometimes on gluten-free toast. My husband thinks it’s crazy, but if you put chicken and peanuts together in a Szechuan dish, everyone would say it was delicious.
Nicole,
I don’t think you’re crazy…not at all.
They all look so good! I think I want to try the hazelnut! The weirdest combo I do is probably dipping my green beans in raw almond butter. It is so good!
Thanks for introducing us to this brand!!
Hi there beautiful Heather, mother of beautiful Summer!
I love almond butter, sardines, and hard boiled eggs.
Not too bad for a HEAB reader? xoxoDawn
Dawn,
Hehe – not bad at all.
Sadly I can’t win any but I have just put your scrambled egg and pumpkin recipe on ‘to make’ list. You’re so creative
I really don’t have any weird combos. I’m a picky, use bowls instead of a plate person because I can’t let my food touch. LOL I wish I could be more adventerous!
You kill me.. I thought the first combination was MUCH weirder than the second.. I’ve been mixing my eggs with butternut squash, onions, chicken and mushrooms for a while now… yumyum… weirdest thing I’ve done with nut butter?? love me some carmelized onions and almond butter!
I’ve put PB on raw tofu before… strange, but rather good!!
Megan,
I love dipping tempeh straight from the package in PB. Very good!
The most memorable combination I have had is probably something you would love, Heather!
A smoked gouda cheeseburger with almond butter on top. It was delish! Buried towards the bottom of this post: http://www.j3nn.net/2009/09/10/wake-me-up-when-september-ends/
Jenn,
Yes, I love love LOVE nut butter atop burgers. So yummy.
I’m not sure any of my combos could top yours
but my husband thinks peanut butter and carrots is weird.
The strangest nut butter combo I’ve tried lately is Annie’s BBQ SAUCE AND TAHINI on spaghetti squash. So creamy and deep in flavor…If I won I’d want the sesame butter definitely:)
Hi Heather,
I love nut butters! Probably the strangest combo I’ve eaten is peanut butter and scrambled eggs, so good!
Thanks,
Jonna
Soy-nut butter + butter + ketchup + nutritional yeast + celery on bread? I do this thing where I stare in my fridge and just start putting things I like on top of other things I like.
strangest (more like genius): spicy vegetarian chili with justin’s chocolate almond butter. just like mole.
i’m obsessed with mixing tahini with miso paste. perfect for dark greens, brown rice, basically everything.
Erin,
Yes, I agree. I love tahini + miso paste!
Hi Heather,
I would love to try the Tahini. I am a huge fan of nut butters but eat almond and pb the most. My most recent combo is gluten free black bean spaghetti with steamed veggies and a pb sauce I make with pb and hot pepper flakes and stevia for sweetness. SO good!!!
How exciting! have fun with your new cam!! yayyyy
i think you’ll have so much fun playin around with it. I sure did! or….still am haha. thanks for letting us have the chance to try the tahini!
Hmmm I can’t remember THE strangest combo, but one that’s kind of unconventional is baked yam along with greek yogurt and cinnamon.
I’ve never tried Tahini. All the nut butters look great though! My strangest combo- PB/Honey/Banana..Ok not strange but thats all I got!
Toasted wheat bread spread with peanut butter and crumbled bacon.
My favorite–cottage cheese, almond butter, baking cocoa, stevia powder. I love it!
I’d imagine I’d love the pistachio butter! Yum! I don’t really have any weird combos (involving nut butters)…other food, yes, but not so much butters. I like to put tahini+pure maple syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon on toasted bread…it kind of reminds me of a sticky bun or something.
I have never tried tahini, but would give it a try.
I learned this combination from a sibling… A peanut butter sandwich with popcorn. Or… A peanut butter sandwich with any kind of chips or pretzels. I think either sandwich tastes crunchy and delicious!
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
I put tahini on everything. Most “strangest” would be scrambled eggs with my fave salad dressing on top of oats. Certainly not strange to me, as it’s my everyday breakfast!
Pistachio and brazil nut butter?! I think I’ve died and gone to heaven
Weirdest nut butter convo? Hmm that’s a tough one. I’ve dipped tortilla chips in nut butter and it was delicious
Almond butter + applesauce + cinnamon….mmmmmmm… maybe not a strange combo, but delicious nonetheless! I also love to spoon nut butters straight from the jar!
I’d love to try the brazil nut butter or the pistachio nut butter, though I have been meaning to buy tahni and the calcium level is crazy! I had no idea!
My craziest combo is peanut butter and salsa sandwiches. That’s probably not that crazy compared to some others here, but I love it!
This isn’t *that* crazy I guess, but I honestly love peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. Thick bread that’s toasted with creamy peanut butter (natural + unsweetened), a pinch of salt sprinkled on top of that (because you know I secretly want hypertension-LOL), and a really crunchy kosher dill pickle sliced on top
P.S.-If by some chance I win, choose someone else b/c we have def exchanged stuff over the last few months and since I’ve already had some of the glorious cinnamon vanilla SSB, I want someone else to have a fancy “butter.” Just felt the need to share my fave combo.
I love snap peas with peanut butter.
Pistachio butter?! Oh my…
I honestly don’t think there is anything nut butters wouldn’t go with because they are so good! I love mixing peanut butter and hot sauce and putting it on my stir fry or on sweet potatoes.
I’d love to try the MAX Sesame!
Gosh it has a lot of Iron and Calcium!!!
The cashew or hazelnut sound awesome…..even though I bet they all are! Unusual combos? I can’t think of one off the top of my head, but my friends and family always think I am wierd with my food choices/combinations. haha
thank you for this opportunity!
Probably Doritos and peanut butter. In my defense….. yeah I’ve got nothing…
I have been reading your blog for quite a while now and really enjoy getting your email everyday.
. I am almost finished with my very first jar of almond butter and really like it.
I am diabetic and need to lose about 80 lbs. So far I have lost 12!
I use sesame and flax seeds in many things but have never tried Tahini. We don’t have any great stores around here like Trader Joes or Whole foods so I am thinking about ordering online.
You truly inspire me and you family is beautiful!
Lara,
Thanks so much for reading and for your kind words. 12 pounds? That is wonderful, and I have no doubt you’ll lose the rest. You can do it.
Yes, order the tahini! It’s not sweet like almond butter, but I love it. Makes great salad dressings or dips, and you know I love it atop some oat bran.
Mmmmmmm I love all raw nut and seed butters other than peanut.
The weirdest combo I’ve probably enjoyed was many years ago now and it was toast with vegemite (Australian yeast spread…sounds attractive right? haha), avocado, tahini, an egg, apple slices and Worcestershire sauce! Not something I could stomach (or would wnat to stomach) today!
Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity
Casey,
I’ve actually always wanted to try Vegemite. Almost bought some recently…until I checked out the sodium content…then I quickly put it back on the shelf.
I know! I would never touch it myself now but back in the day, I was all over that biz-ness
I don’t think the concept of too much sodium even crossed my mind back then
I’ve never eaten nut butter in a truly weird way…usually just stick to the usuals (with bread, chocolate, ice cream, oats, ya know
. Although, I do have to say that the combo of cheddar cheese and peanut butter has always sounded good to me…gotta try it someday!
I love the fact it’s sweet…I’m always up to try something new!
wow, they all sound so good. pistachio butter? walnut butter? i think i would have to get the hazelnut butter though. YUM. tough choice.
whoops. i got so excited by all their great flavors that i forgot to answer the question! i never eat nut butter in ways that would be considered strange in the blog world… just on oats, carrots, apples, chocolate, etc. dill pickles and PB ARE super delicious together though. don’t knock it til you try it.
i dont even believe in strange nut butter combos anymore. haha i can seriously eat them with anything.
Peanut butter and fritos! Don’t knock it til you try it…it’s delicious!!
Natalie,
I won’t. I love both, and the combo sounds delicious to me. Bet it would be really good with BBQ Fritos. Gosh, haven’t had those in years!
I love peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches. YUM!
I love nut butter; therefore, no combo is weird.
That being said, I get strange looks for PB + bacon on my burgers. There have also been reactions to a fav sandwich: PB + banana… + mayo. With a pickle on the side. Don’t knock it til you try it!
Nothing to crazy from this girl. I love my nut butters either plain, on apples or peanut butter, or on a slice of bread. I’ve tried it before with honeydew melon though, and I must say it was delicious enough for me to eat that again!
Pistachio butter? Why haven’t I thought of that? I’d love a jar.
Sarah,
You are cracking me up. Sounds like quite the b’fast bowl.
I recently tried a sandwich I saw on a blog (sorry but I forget which one!). It was peanut butter, banana, ketchup and mayo. Weird!!
Lisa,
Yeah, even I think that sounds pretty weird.
would LOVE to try hazelnut butter…
strange nut butter combo: peanut butter, cheddar cheese and tuna sandwich, or peanut butter + cream cheese sandwiches (which I hear the US chain Trader Joes carries – in Canada we don’t have them) – these combos were my staple food when i went camping all throughout highschool.
a more recent combo : coconut butter + mint extract, frozen for a few mins. my FAVE!
Jenny,
Yes, that’s how I made peppermint bark at Christmas. Coconut butter + mint extract + dark chocolate chunks. It was hit…well, at least for me.
The pistachio butter looks amazing, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before.
I’m not sure that I eat any strange nut butter combos. My favorite way to eat PB is to stuff it inside dates.
oooh! these all sound amazing :]
i’d love to try the hazelnut butter, or maybe the pumpkin seed butter!
I guess my most outrageous nut butter combo(gets many raised eyebrows at work) is NF yogurt topped w/ pumpkin, almond butter, raisins, walnuts, and loads of cinnamon. Turns really brown and lumpy when I stir…….but super flavor blend! : )
I can’t really think of an unusual way I have used nut butter other than on top of savory oats. I usually stick with the basic uses when it comes to that. Now other kitchen ingredients….thats a different story.
I would probably go with the brazil nut butter or pistachio butter!
Your weird combinations are right up my alley!
I love peanut butter an marmite on toast, but once took it too far and added sliced banana, honey and cheese to that! I pretty much love any sweet and savoury combinations.
I love the arrowhead mills tahini. have you tried it? it’s runny and sweet.
Tutti, I have, but it’s been a while. Probably time to reacquaint myself with it.
My weirdest combination – although awesome (before I gave up dairy) was a grilled feta and tahini sandwich. The salty feta was incredible with the tahini.
Tahini is probably one of the best butters ever because it’s so different and when mixed with the right ingredients it just pops!!
Melanie,
Oooh, that tahini feta sandwich sounds delicious. I would love to try that with goat cheese!
You definately should try it – It’s so good. I’ve been thinking about making a cashew feta cheese to make this sandwich again. I loved it on ezekiel bread sesame bread, grilled of course – yummy! I would just spread both sides with tahini and add the feta.
i’m not sure about weird … if it sounds good, just do it. i’d have to say i love carrots dipped in cashew butter thinned with a bit of water. mmmm.
i have not really expanded my butter repertoire beyond pb, almond and cashew, so i think trying a pumpkin seed butter would be divine!!
I’m actually not too adventurous when it comes to nut butters either. My favorite is making my own Nutella with PB or AB. So tasty, and not as sweet. I have to say, since I’ve cut sugars WAY down in my diet, sweet things I used to eat all of the time taste sickeningly sweet to me now.
I would love to try the hazelnut butter to make some “true” homemade Nutella!
I top stir fried veggies with almond butter…
I can’t recall a weird nut butter combo but that’s not to say that I haven’t had any. I usually have about 6-8 nut and seed butters open at any given time and my favorite tahini indulgence as of late is to take a date, split it in half and smoosh raw tahini on either side. Takes care of my dessert cravings.
Gosh, I can’t think of any weird combos. I guess I’ll have to got more creative. When I was a kid I used to eat peanut butter with bologna but now that idea makes me gag. I tried some tahini and Bakers with my oatmeal after seeing it here and it was yummy. My favorite dessert is almond butter, sunflower seeds, and chocolate chips.
I love cashew butter! It makes vegan cheeze very easily!
I have never done anything too adventurous with nut butter, but now I have some interesting ideas! Love the idea of peanut butter with sweet potato!
The strangest nut butter combo would probably have to be spinach and almond butter. Originally I used the almond butter as a dip for strawberries, but when I finished the strawberries and only almond butter and spinach remained, I thought why not haha. It was pretty good at least!
Nut butter on fried egg, yum!
At the time, I thought it was bizarre: I read about mixing chocolate almond butter with a banana and then freezing it, making an ice cream wannabe.
I tried it one day out of curiosity, and I LOVE IT. (Compared to the rest of these that seems pretty tame, though).
Oh well! I’ve never had any of those rare nut butters, I’d love to try the pistachio or hazelnut butter!
Eggs scrambled in a touch of sesame oil with veggies and topped with almond butter! Mmmmm. Put it on some Ezekiel toast and it’s over the top good.
I guess nothing phases me anymore when it comes to nut butters – I can’t think of anything that isn’t good with a gooey gob of nuttiness. To my friends and family, though, I think the cashew butter omelet was the most off-putting. Sooo good!
Yummy! The pistachio butter sounds amazing! I generally eat all nut butters out of the jar with a spoon… but probably the weirdest combo that I tried was almond butter and chicken.
Ohhhhhh, I really wanna win this one and try a sweeter tahini! I can’t eat the bitter tahini straight like you and it makes me jealous!!
My weirdest combos have all been things I’ve tried from blogs!
I made CD’s almond butter chili the other day…which seemed weird but was delicious. I also made parsnip fries the other day from another blogger’s recipe…slathered in an almond butter coating which was amazing. Sometimes I spread any nut butter I have on romaine lettuce to make a breadless sandwich.
The best nut butter combo in my opinion is not that weird…but nut butter on the back side of a chocolate chip cookie is just pure joy.
Well, I once ate nori sheets with almond/sesame seed butter on them… Although that wasn’t actually strange, just really tasty.
The Brazil Nut Butter sounds seriously out of this world-amazing, oh my god.
Honestly, I think everything tastes great with nut butter so nothing seems strange to me anymore.
I think the strangest thing that a family member has commented on me eating has been a carrot and almond butter mix. One of mys sons requested a peanut butter and cheese sandwich once – that seemed odd to me at the time, but now that I know nut butters with nutritional yeast are delish, I can appreciate his choice more.
Fun giveaway!!! Thanks!
I’d love to try the max sesame! I don’t think I have any weird nut butter combos. I am pretty boring…nut butter and fruit, bread and oatmeal. I think I need to get more creative!!
i love tahini when i go out for Mediterranean food, but have never brought a jar home sadly. I’d love to try it on everything!
So, my weirdest pb combo is probably just straight up dipping chicken into a pb jar. Not a weird combo per se because peanut sauce does exist, but odd behavior one might say.
I’ve gotten so used to put nut butter on EVERYTHING that no combination seems strange to me anymore. No food is safe from my trail of nut butter! I think the combo that seemed most odd to me when I first did it though was nut butter on my omelets – chocolate peanut butter on sweet ones and almond or cashew butter on savory – but now its pretty much a staple. I’m very much intrigued by the pistachio butter – that’s new territory for me.
This is not too strange, but the other day I melted a blob of PB (not technically nut butter, but hey) with a couple of squares of Bakers chocolate, then stirred in as much cereal as I could. Very Yummy chilled and cut into squares.
In CD’s chili haha! but i’ve been dying to try it – it sounds it’d be such a great dish. mmm.
mmm… that tahini looks delicious! I have been making sweet potato hummus lately, and that tahini would be a perfect addition.
The strangest nut butter combo I can think of isn’t that strange I guess…. I love “fluffing” up nut butter by whisking it with almond milk and spreading it on pancakes. It is so delicious! If you used unsweetened almond milk I’m sure it would make a yummy base for pasta of something.
I would love to try the Hazelnut Butter! I haven’t done anything that strange with a nut butter, but I love it on any fruit or bread product. Especially warm covered in shredded coconut…yuuuum!
I always know I can count on you for fellow “odd food combinations.” You make me feel normal and like everyone else is missing out!
Honestly, I’ll add peanut butter to just about anything! My current favorites are brussels sprouts and grilled cheese. Oh, and tuna fish, but let’s keep that one between us or else my family might disown me…
I know this probably sounds odd, but I don’t really love peanut or almond butters… Tahini on the other hand is fabulous! I use it to make traditional hummus, but it is especially good as a sauce mixed with a big veggie stir-fry.
I would love to try the hazelnut butter! Freshly made nut butters beat nutella any day!
I guess my weirdest is PB and spinach on a tortilla….
I would love to try that brand of tahini! I guess it’s not too weird but I absolutely love tahini on steamed kabocha squash, spinach, and quinoa. I’ve also made a veggie curry with almond butter that was so good! Thanks for doing the giveaway!
I would love to try the Tahini spread…I have never had tahini!
I don’t know if I’ve eaten any weird combinations of nut butters. I usually eat it plain on a spoon or on toast. My favorite, which I do almost daily, is almond or peanut butter with a little jelly and sliced bananas in my morning oat bran! PB & J oats! So tasty…
Hmmmm…..pistachio butter sounds divine!
I don’t really have any ‘weird’ combos. My favorite is to stuff dates with homemade almond butter and dip that into homemade, raw chocolate (coconut oil + raw cacao). It’s one of the staples of my new little biz I started up.
Artisana raw cashew butter stirred through quinoa then drizzled with a little maple syrup- It tastes like white chocolate!
I don’t use nut butter for many strange things( I just like it straight from the spoon!) But all the comments in this post have given me SO many fab ideas, thanx
Xxx
I think sweet potato and banana is a weird combo but it’s one of my FAVORITE breakfasts!!
Oooh I would love to try the pistachio butter! I love pistachio!
I have to say the weirdest combination is from you, Heather
I added almond butter to my homemade chili, mmmmmm!
Not too weird to me:
Peanut butter, bacon, and banana
The New Englander in me loves my peanut butter and fluff
I’d love to try the pistachio butter!
I would love to try the Tahini. The brand I buy is not at all runny. I would like to try one that was more spreadable.
When I was a kid my family made peanut butter, butter and lettuce sandwiches on white bread. I still make one once in a while on toast. Once summer comes and I have garden tomatoes I bet my standard tomato sandwich could be improved with tahini or a tahini based sauce. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Karen
the most random combo i’ve ever tried was almond butter atop a sweet potato with avocado and a sunnyside up egg! <3
I would say my “weirdest” combination would be almond butter and cayenne mixed together with a piece of dark chocolate.
(tasted good to me
ohh these look lovely! .this company even has walnut butter which I had never seen before!! Also — the almondie butter sounds like what happened when I made almond butter using blanched almonds… produces the smoothest almond butter EVER!
I religiously keep pb at my desk at work and sometimes i concoct some weird stuff with whatever is leftover in my lunch bag or whats in the office..
hot chocolate mix + pb = good
chia seeds + honey + pb = goooood
nutella + pb + chia seeds + strawberries = goooooooooood
chia seeds + cereals + fig preserves + oats + grapes + strawberries + raisins + pb + apple butter = omgineedtogettothegrocerystorenowbecauseimstarrrrving!!!
I would love to try the cashew or walnut butter! Both sound delicious!
Not that odd of a combo– but lately I’ve started putting Peanut Butter & Co’s Dark Chocolate Dreams on top of brown rice cakes which is sooo good!
I just had a spoonful of almond butter dipped in cheerios, so good!
I normally just eat PB&J, but this has given me some great ideas! The pistachio butter looks awesome
Oh nut butter. How much do I love thee? Let me count the ways (in no particular order)….
1. peanut butter & preserves omelet
2. nut butter protein ice cream (nut butter + protein powder + almond milk + freeze = delicious)
3. almond butter and cinnamon on a sweet potato
4. heaping spoonful of almond butter with a chunk of dark chocolate and a tsp of strawberry preserves
5. plain Greek yogurt with nut butter
6. caramel rice cake with Laughing Cow and cashew butter (mmmmmm)
I know these aren’t exactly strange combos in the health blogging community, but a lot of my friends would find these combinations very odd.
I used to enjoy peanut butter and jelly with Funion onion rings. Is that weird?
I honestly can’t think of a weird combination that i have done. Maybe I’m too used to them, if I have any and they seem normal to me. I would love to win a jar of their nut butter or tahini. I am just venturing into the world of nut butters other than peanut butter and it is so exciting.
I think I have too many to list, too! I eat all kinds of squash with almond butter and I put tahini on everything. Especially salads!
Oh my — i eat some crazy peanut butter combinations! one of my favorites (quite crazy) is a peanut butter and cottage cheese parfait. but probably the craziest i have ever tried is PB on a pickle. it was gross — don’t try it!
Yesterday: I had a tablespoon of chocolate protein powder left in the tub so I mixed it with almond milk, then mixed that with cashew butter and served it with carrot sticks. I loved it!
Ok..so I don’t really have a strange nut butter combination. When I was little, I liked a spoonful of peanut butter on top of my vanilla bean ice cream. Now-a-days, I sometimes find myself in front of the open fridge with the open almond butter and strawberry preserve jars and a spoon!!
I’d love to try any of the jars you have to offer. I’ve never had tahini butter so I would most likely pick that. The oddest nut butter combo I’ve had is probably not as odd as yours. Filipinos add peanut butter to an oxtail stew. Some just add a bit, like 1/4 cup for flavor. I like to practically add the entire jar! I like the sauce to have a lot of nutty flavor.
Peanut butter as a salad dressing for baby spinach.
Walnut butter sounds awesome!
Probably the weirdest think I put it on sometimes is cooked carrots. Its GOOD!
Almond butter- licking it off my finger, off the tip of a knife (not safe, this I know, desperate times call for desperate measures!).
I would love to try the pistachio butter just because the green color is so great!
My family is so grossed out by my nut butter addictions. It is so bad, that mom has an “army line” of nut butters at the bottom of the pantry for my visits home over holidays/breaks! hehe. My favorite — and newest concoction– breakfast peanut butter and blueberry bread bake… oats, wheat bran, egg whites, baking powder, stevia/maple syrup, 1/2c heated blueberries (saucey consistency), 1/2c whole blueberries, handful of buckwheat groats (for crunch), cinnamon, few tablespoons sweet potatoe puree (used baby food!), and a few tablespoons peanut butter.–> bake, spread with more pb, ENJOY!!!!!
Thanks for the review Heather! I would love to try walnut butter… it’s my second favorite nut, after almonds
My strangest combination was a fried egg sandwich with maple almond butter on both sides of an english muffin and the egg in the middle. So so unexpectedly delicious!
Pistachio butter sounds interesting! I have no weird combos… I tend to eat nut butters on toast or oat bran.
The craziest I’ve gotten is bread and bananas! I’m not too brave though I’m trying to decide if I’d like tahini!
Well let’s see……I’ve eaten peanut and almond butter in yogurt, oatmeal, egg sandwiches, and pancakes. Nothing too strange though.
I like peanut butter in veggie wraps
I’d love to try this tahini!
I usually don’t get TOO crazy with my nut butters, I like spreading them on dried figs, but I don’t think that’s too out there!
Never tried tahini butter, but probably the weirdest thing I put peanut butter on, was my tuna fish sandwich. I can’t stand mayo, and wanted to try something new, so I figured “hey..peanut butter taste good with anything.” I was wrong…
hi heather! thanks for holding this awesome giveaway! one of my fav nut butter combos is almond butter + sweetened adzuki bean (i just mix adzuki bean + stevia + coconut milk or almond milk in my blender till creamy) on corn bread! SOOO GOOD. i sometimes sub garbanzo beans or mung beans (such a good protein source) for adzuki beans.
another fav nut butter recipes of mine is to mix some stevia into my fav nut butter and then wrap the nut butter + avocado slices inside an eggroll wrapper and then bake it for 5 minutes in the oven and then finish it off by pan frying the outside. the insides gets all creamy and gooey while the outside is crunchy! YUM
Growing up, when my mom made chili, we always had peanut butter and maple syrup sandwiches on the side.
Do you have marmite in the US? Cos marmite and pb on toast with mashed banana is probably my weirdest. And nut butter on sweet potato is totally normal! Right?
As for tahini.. Definitely best with chocolate but pretty damn tasty stuffed in a dried unsulphured apricot… Drool!
Hannah,
Yes, we have marmite, but I’ve never tried it, and yes, nut butter on a sweet potato is completely normal…well, in our house anyway.
Aw you’ve gotta try marmite! Good for the B vits and amazing on toast with PB and/or banana. And I love it with raw mushrooms…. Mmmm.
I actually have a serious question Heather, can you help me….? What is the more perfect combo with dark chocolate…. Coconut or tahini????? (Its one of the bigger questions in life I know!)
Hannah,
Oh gosh, I don’t know, that’s a tough one. Depends on what I’m in the mood for. Some days, I want tahini + chocolate, but other days I NEED some coconut in my life.
Hehe, one of lifes mysteries eh, there’s just no right answer! I’m on a coconut kick at the moment but there’s a tempting jar of tahini in the fridge…
And just thought of another ‘weird’ combo I guess almond butter and soy sauce on courgette pasta. I think you may even have inspired that!
I would love to try cashew or hazelnut butter!
I don’t think I’ve had any weird combinations with nut butter!
I once made hummus with natural pb instead of tahini because I ran out of it. Definitely a weird combo but, I might try it again but leave out the cumin.
Hmmm..strangest combination…
Well, I love eating cereal, pudding, cool whip bowls with a spoonful of peanut butter. The fluffy texture, tang, crunch, and PB are sooo good!!
I make odd concoctions with most of my food, but strangely enough I don’t think nut butter has been involved. My preferred method of eating it is with a finger, spoon or banana!
nut butter + cottage cheese + cinnamon + sugar/splenda/stevia + mashed up banana = yummy
Strangest combo? Gee….I don’t know….for me they all seem normal
Maybe almond butter and broccoli? I don’t know, it tasted pretty darn good to me
I realllly want to try the cashew butter! It’s the one nut butter I have not tried
I love all odd nut butter combos… spicy peanut butter nachos, sweet potato with tahini, and broccoli with almond butter are my favorites
I think that my favorite peanut butter combination, that everyone else thought was crazy, was the combination of cream cheese, peanut butter, cereal, and milk! For some reason everyone that it was weird to put peanut butter and cream cheese in cereal. I found that it made the milk taste delish and because the milk was cold it kept it clumpy and I would get big bites of peanut butter!
Mmm..peanut butter and coolwhip on a spoon
Before I stopped eating dairy (and grains, for that matter), I used to put peanut butter with my grilled cheese (preferably chedder)…I guess it’s not that weird, but everyone else always thought it was gross!
I love, love, love Almond Butter!! Have it every morning on my white egg omelet “pancake” (my very own combo). Sometimes I add a tad of SF Maple syrup on top of it all – oh heaven!!
Pan-fry a hotdog in coconut oil, top with nut butter and sprinkle with cinnamon!
I also like mixing equal part if nut butter and apple sauce, microwave for 30s, stir in a dollop of coconut cream. It tastes just like oatmeal! If I’m feeling fancy I will throw in a square of dark chocolate!
my oddest nut butter combo was warm chocolate hazelnut butter drizzled over steamed green beans
Cashew butter to put on my sweet potatoes!
cocoa powder + frozen raspberries + spinach + almond butter = best smoothie everrr
I don’t tend to be extremely adventurous with nut butters (weird b/c I am with other foods). I might be open to trying it with eggs though!
Whole-grain toast with nut butter, preserves, cottage cheese, topped with bread and butter pickle slices. Mmmm!
Also, a large gob of pistachio butter with sushi to create the illusion of enjoying said helping of wasabi. Fun! And.. kinda yummy too.
When I was younger I tried a mayo, peanut butter and banana sandwich inspired by the Babysitter Club books!
Well anything is good with peanut butter, but my favorite combo is my homemeade Butterfinger Shake – it is SOOO yummy and who would have though PB and Carrrot Juice would taste like a Butterfinger, so when you get to eat your nut butters again HEAB you HAVE to try this!
BUTTERFINGER SMOOTHIE
1 Cup Carrot Juice
1 TBsp Peanut Butter
2 TBsp Nonfat Dry Powdered Milk AND/OR 1 TBsp Powdered Fat-Free Creamer (this is what makes it tast like ice cream – I use both!)
1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder (your favorite brand)
10-12 ice cubes
Optional:
-1 packet Stevia (I use Truvia) or 1 Tablespoon Sugar if you want it a but sweeter (I don’t add this)
-1 Tablespoon Wheat Germ (this gives it that crunchy Butterfinger texture – yum!!!)
Blend all ingredients together until smoothy consistency and ENJOY your guilt free Butterfinger!
I did the stats on this and here are the basics (varies a bit depending on the protein powder you use).
CALORIES = 280 Calories
FAT = 6 Grams healthy fat!
PROTEIN = 17 Grams – WOW!
18 Grams Sugar (most are natural from carrot juice)
Oh my Larissa, that sound delicious! I haven’t had a butterfinger in about 20 years!
Larissa,
One word: WOW. Must try this!
I think I love you.
Oh, and I DO love your name =)
–Laurissa
My favorite tasting brand is Artisanas raw tahini. A few months ago the store where I by it was out so I went online and ordered the same raw Max Tahini you mentioned in your post. Now, I am a huge tahini lover and put it on everything (you think your combos are weird, I’m right there with you!). Anyway, I absolutely did not like the Max tahini. To MY tastebuds it was bitter; none of that sweetness that you experienced. It’s been a couple months and it’s still sitting in my fridge.
Not sure what I’m going to do with it. Any suggestions?
Here’s one of my weird food combos. Scrambled eggs, delicata squash, brussels sprouts all mushed together and topped with a tahini, Bragg’s amino, coconut milk and stevia sauce. I love having this for breakfast…something about that savory/sweet combo that really satisfies me.
Alexandra,
Sorry you don’t like it – perhaps just use it in recipes where the bitterness won’t matter so much, like hummus?
Well, you can send your Max to me.
Love your coconut milk sauce idea!
I haven’t tried anything too weird! I’ll just eat almond butter out of the jar with a spoon but that is nothing too crazy.
Oh Heather, how I love you and your nut butter antics! Thanks to you, I can no longer make sloppy joes without adding a spoonful of almond butter! Mmmm! Red Hot Blues dipped in sunbutter is also muy delicioso!
That tahini sounds great! And love those stats!
I’d like the pistachio butter.
cottage cheese with nut butter and pickles with nut butter!!
Absolutely the hazelnut butter!
Strangest?! Peanut butter on a Ritz cracker topped with a dab of ketchup! Salty peanut butter with little sweet ketchup? Weird yes, but really not that bad!
Ok – Random Number picker – pick me! I’ve never heard of EdenNuts – another great company – I friended them on FB!
Can’t wait to see your new camera pics! xoxo m
Hummus made with peanut butter and cinnamon!
carrots and peanut butter. I also like to put almond butter on my cereal with grapes … but that’s not too weird (I don’t think?)
I’d love to try that Tahini! Looks amazing.
nothing to crazy…but I do love the half and half combo…like your homemade coconut butter on one side of a sweet potato and good ‘ole AB on the other side..For some reason I’m really loving the sweet potato with nut butter combo!
I would love the tahini actually. I just had a salad at a local Turkish restaurant that I need to recreate. It was chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, parsley and feta with an amazing tahini dressing. I have been dreaming about it ever since. YUM
The oddest combination I’ve tried with PB is on refrigerated cold pizza, gross I know but one of my most beloved dirty little secrets
I love almond butter on sweet potatoes! Especially when paired with scrambled eggs, spinach and copius amounts of salsa on the side
Two good friends also just informed me that my favorite sandwhich is quite odd (I just don’t see it): peanut butter, honey, banana, and spinach. Long live nut butters… and those of us who eat them!
Hm…weirdest combo? I like to top a waffle with any nut butter, then put a fried egg on top and a drizzle of honey. My friends give me weird looks for it, but it is such a good breakfast!!!
Oh I would love to try those nut butters
Wow! ALL of those nut butter look tempting! I would probably have to choose either the Brazil nut butter, pistachio butter, or the Max sesame! I’ve had peanut butter on lettuce wrap… and on sweet potatoes… and regular potatoes… nothing too weird! What isn’t better with some form of nut/seed butter added?!
Melted nut butter on banana soft-serve, then back in the freezer until in gets hard. Makes it just like Magic Shell and it is SOOOOO good.
I like to eat fresh veggies (carrots, celery, bell peppers, cauliflower, etc.) with almond butter. I don’t think that’s very strange, but some of my friends/family do.
At first, I thought clicking on their site would enter you into the giveaway and the more you clicked around, the more likely you would be to win… dumb blogger moment. I would LOVE to try tahini to make my own hummus. I have yet to shell out the money for the two brands sold in the stores near me so this would be the best adventure ever!
Hazelnut sounds AWESOME!! I think I would have to say I threw peanut butter into my savory Chinese egg and pork porridge! It actually went really well.
This is not that strange, but I just ate this the other night, so it comes to mind….. Brown rice, chopped carrots with almond butter and cinnamon. Yum!
I think the pistachio butter sounds interesting. Thanks
Pistachio butter like whoa!
We totally made PB and bacon sandwiches once… which I totally need to do again!
Oh yum! All the flavors look good!
I like crazy combos too!
I always think your food looks good and everything I’ve tried I’ve loved!
Man, i dont really eat too many weird combos with nut butters, but maybe with an orange?? Summer is way cute by the way!
I don’t think I really have strange combinations. I enjoy it straight out of the jar. I have thrown it in smoothies and I LOVE it on top of ice cream. I have several jars at work and just go get a scoop every now and then. Luckily I work in a small office.
Toast with peanut butter and cheese! I ate weird things when I was a kid…
You know, I don’t think I have any strange combos with nut butters. I tend to eat it on toast, in dressing, or in oatmeal. Love it though!
Top it on my salad!
WEirdest combo is nut butter ontop of plain white rice and spinach… it was yummy though!!
I’d love to try the pistachio. My favorite combo was at the CIA Greystone in Napa, CA. They served tahini on a plate, swirled with a mixture of pomegranate molasses, honey and agave into a fancy pattern. Served with whole wheat bread chunks. Heavenly.
I would love the total sesame tahini!
In terms of my wierdest nut butter use, I would probably have to say tahini+squash although I don’t feel like that’s too wierd…
well, everyone ELSE seems to think my peanut butter, butter, lettuce sandwiches are odd…personally i find them scrumptions. parker’s farm pb, fresh salted sweet cream butter & romaine lettuce on honey whole wheat bread. oh my gosh. i’m making myself drool. yummers!
Although my combinations could never live up to YOUR food mastery, dear Heather… I have to say my two “weirdest” (though I find them quite normal) nut butter combinations are
1. HEAB protein ice cream + bacon + bananas + peanut butter
2. Peanut butter on a burger (if you haven’t tried it yet, you must).
Oh, and I’ve also used it as a dip for grilled chicken! I’ll put PB on ANYTHING.
What a great giveaway! Sunflower seed butter and sweet potatoes!
Thanks to you, Heather, (hadn’t tried it before!) I love almond butter in ice cream but I’ve eaten it with just about everything else too – including sweet potatoes, red potatoes, yoghurt, and plain just with a bit of honey on a teaspoon! Thanks for it, Heather – I have bad TMJ and some days that about all I can eat, so it was a real lifesaver!
I enjoy almond butter with tofu but I am not sure if that is really strange anymore… but my family always told me it was weird!
i’m dying to try pumpkin seed butter! it’s so hard to find. weirdest combo…ummm cabbage wraps with crunchy almond butter and stevia-sweetened greek yogurt? my roommates thought it was pretty strange, anyway
.
I’ve eaten oatmeal with pumpkin, nooch and peanut butter before. Not sure that’s the strangest combo ever, but it tasted alright.
I do the nut butter sweet potato thing all the time, but that might be the most “unusual” use of nut butter. I love it straight up, in oats, in cereal, on fruit, on veg, etc. I have used it in sauces, as spreads, etc, but nothing too unique, though this may inspire me to try.
For some reason people think that my combos of nut butter with veggies is weird, like pbutter or abutter with raw carrots, broccoli and peppers. A brown rice wrap with sharp cheddar cheese, peanut butter and raw baby spinach has to be my weirdest. But cheese and pbutter is sooo good. I wish more people knew!
I would love to try the cashew butter…I never had before. I’m sure I’d love, love, love it!
I once tried pb on cooked brussel sprouts…honestly, it wasn’t too bad! I probably wouldn’t eat it on a regular basis, but I bet pistachio butter on brussel sprouts would be tasty!
We love tahini at our house. I make a salad dressing with it and if we’re out, my kids will refuse to eat salad!
No weird nut better combos come to mind, but my favorite quick dessert is a spoonful of almond butter rolled in dark chocolate chips. Yum!
peanut butter spread on a turkey burger (sometimes with jelly too)
I haven’t really eaten too many “out there” combos, but i am definitely going to now!! some of those ideas sound amazing! nut butter on anything is a win in my book!
hmm. weird combos. uhhhh. peanuts are a legume, but i used to eat peanut butter and broccoli!
I’m sure I’ve done worst, but as a kid I *loved* smearing peanut butter over deli-sliced American cheese. YUM!
I’ve never tried tahini. I think I must . . .
nut butter and yogurt, is that weird?
Ok. I got inspired by your unusual combos and made one of my own. I cubed half an avocado, topped it with vegan vanilla ice cream (from Elana’s Pantry) then topped it with peanut butter. OMG!!!! So nutty good!!!!
for me, nut butter goes with EVERYthing, so none of the combinations are strange to me:-). i suppose some people might think nut butter & bacon or nut butter on burgers is odd.
I used nut butter in chickpea chocolate chip blondies that my bf was skeeved out by the mere thought of, so I got them all! Muahaha… I should tell him I put chickpeas in more things I bake.
sadly i’m not that weird (or creative) with my nut butter. my favourite way to eat it is by the spoonful…mmmmmmmmm.
almond butter in a mango/peach smoothie
I don’t think I’ve ever tried any very strange nut butter combinations, but I’ve heard that peanut butter and pickles taste good together. It sounds strange, but now I really want to try it!
I’d have the say the strangest combination is my Peanut Butter and grilled onions sandwich, or Nutella and goat cheese grilled cheese, but I got the latter idea from reading your blog so I’ll stick with the first. Have to say though, both of these combos are delicious!!!!
Nut butter and tortilla chips! Sweet and salty is always the perfect combination.
Oooh! They all look so good, but I would try the Almondie! I tried to make raw, blanched almond butter myself, but my food processor is simply not fast enough. It can barely manage raw unskinned almonds as it is!
Crazy application of almond butter: Carrots, onions and green beans roasted in a frying pan in coconut oil, tossed with sea salt, cumin, and toasted coconut flakes, ….and almond butter! The addition of some canned salmon is also amazing.
Nope no weird nut butter combos in this house. My family in general thinks it is weird that I even like all natural nut butter with no sugar. The nut butter by itself is plain nuts to my family!
I’m vegetarian and aspire to make my meals/snacks high-protein. I also gave up sugar recently, so to add flavor to my plain Greek yogurt, I added roasted almond butter (no salt). It was very rich and creamy. I’m not sure if it’s for everybody. With some dates or agave nectar, this would have been better.
I wish I had a good combination to share, but really, I think pretzels and carrot sticks dipped in PB is as adventurous as I’ve gotten. I’m open to remedying that situation, of course.
Unfortunately, I am not a big risk taker. So the only “crazy” thing I’ve done with my nut butter is melt it over sweet potatoes.
Well, I guess it’s not all that weird but I put peanut butter on my sweet potatoes all the time. My fiance does give me strange looks though so I guess it’s weird to some.
Hard as it is to choose, I’ll go with the brazil nut butter.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
This sounds gross but I promise you try it – it’s good!
Wheat bread (must be super fresh and soft) with chunky peanut butter, pickles and ketchup!
the BEST/weirdest combo i’ve tried before are dates with peanut butter!
other great ones to note: peanut butter in cinnamon raisin rice pudding, almond or sunflower butter on yams!
i think the pistachio butter or cashew butter seem most intriguing
In general, I’m a fan of experimenting with interesting combos, but I’m not sure if they’re really all that strange. Although, whenever I put peanut butter on my sweet potato, my friends and family look at it skeptically, haha. I do love a grilled peanut butter and shredded carrot sandwich on whole wheat or multi-grain bread though! Oh, and I ate mushroom and tahini sandwiches on dark rye a lot when I was studying abroad in Copenhagen (my own concoction!). I also tried nutella and avocado once, but I wasn’t the hugest fan.
I would love to try pistachio or hazelnut butter!
I was so inspired by your sweet potato, salmon and tahini post! As a result, I made my own tahini from black sesame seeds and mixed it with a chopped yam, canned salmon and chickpeas. Absolutely delicious! I would have never thought to add tahini to salmon and yams so thank you for that!! I also just eat almond butter out of the jar – not a combo, but some may think that’s weird
OMGGG– I can’t even decide which one I’d pick– tahini, pistachio, hazelnut! Ahh, love nutty goodness (:
The weirdest nut butter combo I’ve ever seen (pretty difficult to choose actually, since I think nut butter can go on ANYTHING): I once saw a girl heat some PB up and use it as a “salad dressing”– over radishes and iceberg lettuce.
I.kid.you.not.
nothing too strange. But I love almond butter and baked sweet potatoes together. So delicious
Love all the combos here! I think I might try a few out!
Nothing too strange on my part, but I do like a good snack of ants on a log…
Almond butter (Trader Joe’s raw crunchy unsalted is my personal favorite) on celery with a few raisin “ants”… Yum!
I’m new to the nut-butter world (i.e. beyond peanut butter!). So the weirdest combo I’ve ever had is putting it in my oatmeal…which I know isn’t all that weird.
Nut butter + pickles + Muenster cheese + strawberry jam,+ Grilled = My weirdest combo which was delicious
Greetings from down the road in Memphis —
I am new to your blog. I don’t have a strange concoction but I can tell you that you have inspired to break out and try new nut butters. As soon as my life settles down this month, I am also going to try many of your recipes. I love the concept of cheap simplicity and appreciate how inspiring you are to my life.
Thanks Heather! Keep it up!
not too strange of a combo, but i love pretzels dipped in nut butter. so good!
A bagel w/ pb& j and cream cheese when I was little! Yum
hmm, well i don’t really consider anything with almond butter all that crazy
just b/c i love it so much! I did recently make a spicy PB ice cream recently with a coconut milk base that was pretty out there though!!
I guess its not so much of the combination of almond butter but more importantly WHEN…. and that is ANYTIME. I will have just a plain HEAPING spoonful (or two…or three…) of ANY nut butter (almond, peanut, cashew) at ANYTIME during the day. Most recently I have been waking up at 3 am to the bathroom and find myself sneaking by the fridge and grabbing a spoonful….
Addicted? I’d say so. Mail ordering in special jars? Yup.
I once put almond butter on provolone cheese with raisins…rolled it up and had it for a snack.
It was good!
I’ve never heard of pistaccio butter…but that sounds amazing!
Love mixing PB or Almond butter into my cereal/almond milk. Simple. Delicious.
Would looooove to try pistacio butter…weirdest combo probably adding almond butter to chili & soups : )
It’s not strange to most bloggers, but to my friends it would be.. I love nut butter as a coating to fries, pre baking. yum! I think I use avocado in much weirder ways than nut butter… but love both.
Mmmm…..I love sweet potatoes. Think I’ll bake some sweet potato fries tonight! Thanks for the idea.
I love almond butter…by the spoonful, on apples….lots of “normal” ways…hmmm only odd thing I can thing is with carrots.
When I was in undergrad, my roomates HATED ketchup. Once I thought it would be funny to pretend like I was eating pb crackers w/ ketchup. I took one bite and decided…..that was the worst idea I’ve ever had.
Weird nut butter combinations! I have experience in that department. Some favorites include (but are certainly not limited to):
-Peanut Butter, Tomato, and Mayo sandwiches
-Peanut Butter, Jalapeno, Bacon Cheeseburgers (to die for!)
-Egg, Cheese, Peanut Butter sandwiches
-Green Pepper, Onion, Jalapeno scrambled eggs topped with Peanut Butter
I’m not sure that there is really anything that nut butters don’t/can’t take to the next level.
Well I don’t have any really strange combinations – but I know someone who likes peanut butter on her pickles!
I don’t know if this is open to non-US readers at all…!
But even if not, my favourite new nut butter combo is pb with nutritional yeast and red pepper pesto, in aubergine burgers – it’s to die for
Let’s just say I didn’t understand the full capacity of nut butters until reading your blog and then it CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER! Yum yum yum! It’s embarrassing how quickly we’ll go through a jar. That being said, I don’t have any particularly strange combos out there.. though I did have some oat bran with almond butter and champagne jelly which was interesting to say the least. I’d really love to try the Max Sesame Tahini or the Pumpkin Seed Butter!
I don’t go too crazy! Probably just nut butter on pancakes!
I do love me some nut butters! As a child (and still to this day) I loved peanut butter, cucumber, and hot sauce sandwiches! I would always bring my cucumber slices separately so they wouldn’t make the bread soggy before I could crunch into them.
I forgot to add – I would loooove to try some hazelnut butter! Yum!
The tahini butter looks amazing!!! Although i have to admit I gave up coffee so having some Hazelnut butter would help to satisfy my ridiculous cravings without actually breaking my coffee strike!
I think I’ve put peanut butter and almond butter on pretty much anything, the most delicious combo that has become a staple for me is adding it to cottage cheese and fruit and toasting it as a sandwich- delicioussssssssssss
Pistachio Butter oh man i cant even imagine..
I guess the strangest thing ive eaten almond butter in is Chili.. but i do always get some strange looks when i bust out little packets of almond butter in places like.. oh the Beer garden at the forest fair in Alaska!
Pistachio butter + honey = baklava in a spoon
My strangest combo is probably spinach + almond butter sandwich!
I love nut butter on pancakes with syrup, which isn’t that crazy, but I love it and everyone in my family thinks I’m crazy. I think they are!
when I was growing up my mom liked peanut butter and mayo, I think it’s vile.
My favorite breakfast is oatbran cooked with a banana and cinnamon topped with sweet potato and a runny egg-Heaven!
I am pretty mainstream when it comes to my nut butters. Toast, waffles, pancakes, nothing too out of the ordinary. Topping my sweet potato with almond butter was a big step for me!
I’ve eaten sunbutter stirred into cottage cheese….don’t knock it till you try it!
I will eat peanut butter on pretty much anything. My favorite combination is pb + banana. The most unusual thing I eat it with may be plopping a scoop in a bowl of granola with milk the other day. I eat it with carrots all of the time. I guess those aren’t that unusual, but some people probably would not do it.
Weirdest combo I’ve ever tried…? I would try it on just about anything, but I’ll get back to you in the far off future when I’m preggers
Maybe I would try hazelnut butter? Or cashew butter? Or any of them!!
I love peanut butter and dates, not very original or unusual but oh so delicious!
Most of my nut butter combos are pretty vanilla. In my oatmeal, on pancakes, in truffles. Once I added peanut butter to my Pad Thai when I realized at the 11th hour that we were out of peanuts. I liked it a lot, but my partner preferred the peanuts. Yesterday I was eating an apple slice smothered with almond butter and decided to dip it in nutritional yeast. That was tasty!
Oh, and I second the nut butter and dates combo above…but I like sunbutter with that one!
Reading all these unique combos makes me feel so boring! I’m usually a nut-butter-on-toast kind of gal. Perhaps if I win I can use my goodies to experiment with some of these creative ideas!!
Cucumber slices with almond butter is to die for!
weirdest nut butter combo:
(a common dinner at work for me!)
whole wheat english muffin/rice cake with peanut or almond butter, coconut sorbet, cinnamon, whole almonds, small cubes avocado and banana
my co-workers call it the truck…
I’d love to to try the Pistachio Butter
My favorite strange combo is peanut butter and rice krispies!
hmm ill try the walnut or pistachio butter you pick
I once cooked rice noodles and veggies with a spicy sauce I made mixing together almond butter, almond milk, and sriracha.
It was… delicious.
Hm..I think the chicken breast/almond butter combo I tried (after seeing you do it!) was the weirdest I’ve eaten.
That or maybe the peanut butter/ketchup sandwich I was dared to eat…and it wasn’t that bad at all!
Let’s hear it for all natural nut butters!! what a great company
i like nut butter on everything and don’t have too many weird ones but one that always makes me laugh is when i take a little almond butter on a knife and spread it on a raw almond or pecan. nut butter on a nut seems like overkill but it is not!
The hazelnut butter sounds heavenly. I once tried to make a casserole with butternut squash, pasta, cheese and peanut butter. It was gross.
My boyfriend is Filipino, and his culture has a stew called Kare Kare, colloquially known as “peanut butter soup”- it’s basically stewed oxtails (sometimes tripe!) with peanut butter swirled into the broth. I’ve only tried it once, but I’ve heard that in the hands of a master, it’s truly delicious!
