Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
I ate a lot of green stuff this weekend. Spinach and or avocados invaded almost every meal…

No, Smoathie is not a typo, and I’m starting up a petition to get it added to the Oxford English Dictionary. Will you sign it?
Another avocadolicious meal…

Emily’s (the glowing mama-to-be) Black Bean Cocoa Quinoa
I sautéed my veggies in butter rather than olive oil, but otherwise I followed Emily’s exact recipe. The mix of spices added so much flavor, and my plain goat milk yogurt topping really helped balance out the heat. Nadia, I am loving cayenne more and more everyday!
Now onto yoga…because avocados = green = Kermit the frog (hence the title) = frog pose = yoga. Are you following me?
Saturday’s vinyasa tune-up was just what I needed to reinvigorate my practice. Seriously, I was in better yoga shape my last month of pregnancy than I am now. However, I will get back there! I can still do Crow and headstand, but my Chaturanga strength is gone. My teacher recommended I do mini push-ups to build up my arm and chest muscles, and yesterday and today, I did a mini-flow during tummy time with Summer. My goal is to do yoga everyday, even if that means just a few Sun Salutations or some Pranayama breathing in the morning. It’s amazing what a little yoga can do for me. Ahhh, I love it.

Yum! Your Black Bean Cocoa Quinoa looks so yummy! And avocado on top makes just about anything better!
Black Bean + Cocoa + Quinoa… ahh you are brilliant!
You for eating it and Emily for putting up the recipe!
I’m going to have to check out Emily’s recipe — that sounds fantastic!
I ate my greens too! Spinach all weekend. I stopped doing yoga and I think my mind and body really miss it. I need to get back in to it soon. I hope you have an incredible day!
I hear you about feeling like you were in better shape your last month of pregnancy rather than now. I definitely noticed that myself. I was able to workout everyday while I was pregnant, but afterwards I was tied to a nursing chair and was lucky to get a shower.
Emily,
Hehe, I do admit to skipping it some days. I remember when we first brought Summer home, she slept ALL the time, and I would take long hot SITS baths every morning. Those days are long gone, but I don’t mind so much.
You have time to shower?!?
haha, I like your breakdown of how you’re Kermit the Frog
Totally following you on the green + frog pose = Kermit the frog! LOVE!
I’m still amazed by that mint smoothie… YUM!
I’ve been eating lots of green foods too– they’re so pretty and spring-like!
Yuuum! So glad you liked it!
I wish I had a GOOD reason to be so out of my top yoga shape (like, um, growing and giving birth to and raising a human being, lol) — but, alas, I find I must just chalk up my decline to letting myself get too “busy” (for me, that means making excuses, ha). So excited to get back into my groove, especially now that spring is (sort of) here
Love being able to go outside and practice. Oh man, I am seriously so excited to make your smoathie (smoOthie for me — still going easy on oats
)! Been dreaming of it since this weekend…mm.
I would’ve never thought to add cocoa powder to quinoa! Genius! Also, I totally approve of the avocado action.
I was SO excited yesterday to realize I can still do crow!! I thought it would kill me but alas, I am still alive
Glad you are getting in your yoga groove.
Love the cocoa added in there! I so want to try that out.
My doctor has recommended I start doing yoga, but I feel like an elephant trying it! I guess I just need to do more!
Jen,
I tried yoga here and there for years before I was comfortable with it. It just took being consistent. A few years ago, I randomly signed up for a month-long workshop and did a vinyasa flow class 6 days a week for 30 days. The changes in my body that month were amazing, and I was hooked!
I want that green smoathie!! lol Such a fun word. I also really, really, really like avocadolicious!!! That bowl looks scrumptious. I <3 busy bowls.
and chili loves HEAB!!

speaking of frogs have you ever eaten frogs (legs)??
that cocoa quinoa looks like black quinoa! thats what I thought it was at first.
Nadia,
Yes, once when I was younger, and I remember they tasted like chicken. In fact, I think my parents tried to trick me. Sneaky.
Oh my gosh they DO taste like chicken! And my thinking…if I want to eat chicken, I’ll eat chicken! They can keep their frogs! Haha!
I love the green bowls! So pretty.
When I did a yoga course (eons ago) the instructor told the class to build up their strength simply by doing 5 salutation flows daily. It doesn’t seem like much…of course I only punch out maybe 3 every few days if lucky
That smoathie has my name all over it. The only thing I need is avocados
That black bean cocoa quinoa looks fantastic!!!
So glad you’re getting your yoga groove back on. Trust me, most of my pregnancy and early nursing days, so a good year, I did very!! little yoga. I was either too sick, too tired, or too unmotivated and it sounded like work, not like a fun “release” or something enjoyable in those early sleep deprived, chaotic new motherhood moments.
Your strength will all come back to you in no time!
What a great bowl of cocoa quinoa, too. I know you make cocoa sweet taters, this is right on track with that
Averie,
Thanks for the encouragement. Even 5 minutes a day of yoga feels so good, but sometimes that’s all I got.
I think green foods are my favorite–especially avocado
That mint chocolate chip smoothie looks amazing! Beautiful picture, too.
Thanks Maryea,
Having so much fun with my new camera, but still so much to learn!
Do you like green Smoathies? I do! I like it Sam I am!
“Kermit The Frog here.” So cute! I think smoathie is an awesome word. And obviously it is the end of a very long day for this mom if those are the only comments I can come up with. I’ll do better next time.
Everyone is posting all this delicious avocado food that I am starting to crave it more and more. And I already craved it a ton, so this is starting to be an expensive problem. Albeit a healthy happy one.
I find that so interesting that women feel more in shape at the end of pregnancy rather than after! I wonder why exactly that is~
Ellie,
I stayed so active and felt really strong during my 2nd and 3rd trimesters and now that Summer is here, workouts just haven’t been as much of a priority. I still try and do something active everyday but those 90-minute classes at the yoga studio aren’t happening much these days…if only they had daycare.
That quinoa bowl looks yummers – I’ve recently reignited my love for quinoa and have been making vegan quinoa bowls. Haven’t yet added avocado to them though, that’ll be next on the list.
Love that you’re digging yoga. There’s nothing quite like it, and its always there for you when you’re ready to come back to it, even if you have to take a modified approach to it. Have fun getting back into the yoga swing of things
Meghan,
Yes, I love that yoga is always there for me whenever I need it.
Also rediscovered quinoa – I always forget how much I love it.
That mint chip smoathie looks amaazing!!!
i’m totally signing the petition!!!
I love green! Seriously can’t get enough lately – from my green smoothie in the morning to a broccoli at dinner (every night lately!), and always avocado at least once a day. So thankful our local market has CHEAP avocados or we’d go broke. Great reminder in this post that I need to make some quinoa ASAP.
Haha! I like your tracing of your train of thought! That’s totally how I think too! I just bookmarked the cocoa quinoa recipe. I saw it and was like, THAT’S what she was talking about! Must try!
So glad to hear your getting back into your yoga groove. I’ve only tried one class and I just felt so lanky and out of place. I wish there was a studio in Clarksville…until then, I’ll just have to keep Googling moves!
I’ll sign your petition!!!
Haha, I always love your titles!!!
You always come up with the PERFECT ones.
Perfect timing, my friend! I used to hate avocado but am teaching myself to like it again, and after buying two a week ago they’re almost perfectly ripe. Now which Heather recipe to make first?!
I’ve been trying to do yoga more often too! The deep-breathing and calmness works wonders for my body and mind!
I totally agree that just a little yoga each day can do wonders!
It makes sense that you had more time for yoga when you were pregnant because you didn’t yet have to take care of Summer! You’ll get back there
I love Kermit the Frog!
I’ve always been a frog lover, and I love green color!
Yay for the yoga! I’m currently starting again (after an elbow inflammation five years ago that kept me from using my arm since then) – usually Surya Namaskara for me, preferably directly after getting up.
Had oatbran yesterday and liked it! And it was satisfying!
Smoathie = GENIUS! I think that should totally be a word in the dictionary, along with a picture of your crazy and yummy creation!
I used to do 3-5 Sun Salutations on the days I couldn’t fit in any other yoga… I really need to get back in the habit!!
I too made Mama Pea’s Mmmm Sauce today… how weird is that!
