Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
I love playing Guess the Grain with you guys…

Any guesses?
It’s millet porridge, my new love (although oat bran is still my favorite!). Inspired by Desi, I soaked and toasted a cup of millet.

I then ground the millet grains into flour and followed Desi’s recipe for a big bowl of delicious porridge.

Toppings included Almondie Almond Butter and my favorite preserves.
Would you like to try a jar of Almondie Almond Butter? If so, this giveaway will require a little work (Sorry, Almondie’s rules, not mine). There are three possible ways to enter:

Johnathon Taylor Thomas!
I was a Kirk Cameron/Growing Pains gal. I also loved C Thomas Howell in the movie, Side Out. No one seems to remember that movie much except for me!
Julie,
Don’t remember Side Out, but I loved C Thomas Howell in Soul Man.
I LOVE LOVE LOVED Leonardo DiCaprio!!!! Still do actually
Titanic??? come on!!!! sighhhh what a dreamboat…
I’m with you on the MJF crush. Back to the Future are my all-time favourite films. I also quite like Doc Hollywood and The Frighteners.
I had a crush on Sean Astin in The Goonies…! I find this hilarious now. I just really love a good dork (and I married one, for sure; getting his PhD in Philosophy. I think that qualifies
).
I liked them on FB
As a child I LOVED Uncle Jesse on Full House (ok still do). I did not marry him.
I liked Jonathan Taylor Thomas! I thought he was so cute. It’s funny to watch reruns of Home Improvement and remember how much I used to like him…
I was totally a fan of Zach Morris! go saved by the bell
That’s SO easy -
Jonathan Taylor Thomas. No question.
Then he disappeared…
JTT for sure… Or Josh Hartnett.
oh yes m’am. I just made some millet myself so I will go post it on my wall. WOW, look good.
Hope the storms are not affecting your HEAB. Praying for all those in your area.
p.s.
I liked Zach morris and I had weird crush on christian slater, I know BIZARRE!
Lindsay,
We’re okay – the storms have been bad, but no tornadoes. What a horrible season for tornadoes. It’s been awful in so many parts of the country.
Ohhh that looks super creamy! I am getting sick of oats and oat bran, so Im thinkin’ its time I expand my breakfast grain horizons!
Also – I just made vanilla bean tahini cookies (that rock my world) and I was wondering if you had any ideas of how to heabify them? Or heabify vanilla bean sugar? Each cookie is pretty low sugar anyway, but it could be cool to have a heabified version!
I crushed HARD on Heath Ledger as a child. I wore all black when he passed…
Shaun Cassidy!!! Oh yeah, I used to sport my tshirt with his iron on LOL
Leonardo DiCaprio when he was on Growing Pains. I wouldn’t mind him living in my school at all
I liked them on facebook!
I used to love love love Ashton Kutcher!
The millet looks delicious!
As for the crush…River Phoenix! I had his pictures all over the back of my door. I’m pretty sure I just aged myself on this one.
Sarena,
Well, you and I are about the same age, and I had loved River too. Was quite sad when he died.
I felt confident with my answer since you said Michael J Fox. Birds of a feather flock together (so to speak). I was really sad too. His life was way too short.
1) Leonardo DiCaprio, and
) Looks so yummy with your choice of toppings… mmmmmmmmmmm
2) YAY FOR MILLET PORRIDGE!
Desi,
Yay indeed. Loved it.
Ooooh millet porridge looks so creamy! I thought it was banana soft serve at first glance.
Growing up in the 80s… Girl, Alex P. keaton was mine! Step away! Hahaha
i like them on FB! i need to try this millet porridge. it’s our new favorite grain!
I liked them on FB.
What I am really liking though, in addition to the awesome looking recipe/food, is that BOWL!
Picture #1 top of the post…love the bowl. Anything has GOT to taste amazing out of it
Averie,
Anthropologie has the best bowls!
Holy shiz, I went to school with Desi… haven’t seen or heard from her in years!!!!!
VG,
Really? She has some great recipes!
Yes… and I’ve already left two comments about it on her site out of excitement and surprise. She probably thinks I’m insane now, haha
LIZ! I don’t think you’re insane! It made my day hearing from you!! And I responded to your comments on my site! Check them out!
xo
I liked almondie on facebook!
Leonardo DiCaprio! I saw Titanic 1000 times when I was younger!
Leo DiCaprio won my heart in titanic. Totally crushed on as a kid!
Done and Done!! And I agree with Erica, Leo hands down!!
I was in love with Tom Cruise (think Top Gun) and Chris O’Donnell. Both are definitely cuties!
Def. Alex P. Keaton. I confessed this to my husband just last week while we watched the re-run where he falls in love with Ellen. She got him on TV and in real-life! Lucky gal.
Although I was in the JTT generation, my favorite was Andrew Keegan… I think he was in more Bop magazines than movies or TV shows though!
You make me want to try new grains for breakfast.
Gotta go with JTT, too! My first Tiger Beat magazine had him on the cover
I was obsessed with Tom Cruise. Seriously obsessed. Other crushes included Kirk Cameron, Leo Dicaprio, and Macaulay Culkin.
I know I had a crush on Goofy (yes the animated Disney dog) when I was about 5. I am completely serious, I wanted to marry Goofy. As a matured it was definately the greatest american hero (don’t recall the actor’s name).
Tracey,
No worries. I had a crush on Aladdin.
I shared on FB too!
I don’t facebook, but I was majorly into Tom Cruise in his Top Gun years. *shame*

Mark-Paul Gosselaar. I loved Zach!
Kirk Cameron for me! I waited each week with so much anticipation for Growing Pains to come on, so that I could watch my love!
Okay, I posted the contest to my facebook page.
Also, I can’t remember having any crushes on TV stars, it was always musicians! I was majorly in love with Eddie Vedder for years and years and years.
Jen,
So was my best friend. She was devastated when he got married, but I think he’s divorced now…or remarried? Can’t keep up. Anyway, she was bound and determined to move to Seattle and live out the movie Singles and marry Eddie.
He was married, then divorced, then ended up marrying and having children with someone who was born in 1977…and growing up I always thought I was way too young for him! I was wrong, apparently.
My crush was on Hayden Christiansen. He was SOO cute in Star Wars.
1) I too was in love with Michael J Fox
2) Despite the age difference, I also had a total crush on Hawkeye Pierce on MASH. (I still kind of love Alan Alda)
Ralph Macchio, oh my! (How dare that goon to sweep his leg?) He still looks good, via my brief glimpses of him on DWTS!
Shannon,
Haha, I was totally jealous of Elisabeth Shue in the first Karate Kid!
When I was 6-8 I thought Melissa Joan Hart from Clarissa and Sabrina was the bee’s knees.
Evan,
Haha, CD totally had a crush on Clarissa too!
oh my god, i haven’t thought about clarissa explains it all in YEARS. my sister and i used to watch that religiously. i thought she was so cool in comparison to my terribly nerdy self.
I was in love with Kirk Cameron!!!! and Zach Morris for sure!!!

Anyone?..
Yeah that’s probably just me and I probably shouldn’t admit that.

I just can’t get enough of Almondie!
Hm, I tried millet and didn’t like it so much. Perhaps I should try it like this?
I liked Almondie on Facebook!
Kayla,
Yes, toasting it makes a huge difference. Yum!
Rob Lowe…hands down.
McIntosh,
I loved him in St. Elmo’s Fire.
Leonardo DiCaprio was the epitome of dreamy when I was 14- especially after Romeo and Juliet!
I liked Almondie on Facebook!
I hardly remember who I crushed on….it was sooo long ago! I’m embarassed to admit my sisters and I were pretty into Shawn Cassidy?! EEEK!
Keith Partridge (aka David Cassidy), Bobby Sherman, Davy Jones (the Monkeys), and the blond guy in The Man from UNCLE. Oh, and who could forget Ringo from the Beatles! I guess I’m showing my age just a bit…….
I always am so inspired by your different grains, but I have to eat up my oat bran before I can try them! I was in lovvve w/ Leo Dicaprio!
That millet porridge looks divine! Soaking/toasting is a great idea- no bitter aftertaste, and a rich, toasty flavor. Perfect!
And, as for crushes…
…I was a weird kid.
Jim Carey and John Travolta (circa Grease) were my childhood TV crushes. Clearly, my taste in men was (and might still be) questionable.
Oh YUMMMM! I have a bag of millet that I now have the perfect use for – love your creativity! Def going to try this topped with almond butter and raspberry preserves…I am drooling…
I was in love with Emilio Estevez from Mighty Ducks! Quack, quack, quack! And I loved Leo D too!!
Nora,
Too funny. I thought Emilio was so cute in Young Guns.
I had a huge crush on Jonathan Taylor Thomas from Home Improvement!
3) Sean from Boy Meets World was a cutie, in my opinion
I would have to say Shaun Cassidy and now I am truly dating myself.
Thanks
this is kinda embarrassing…but aaron carter. ohhh goodness i was obsessed.
that millet looks phenomenal! I thought it was pudding for a second
I’ve liked it and spread the words on my http://www.facebook.com/wellnesswithin page!!
I had a major little girl crush on Orlando Bloom!
I liked the Almondie page on FB. Also, I had a crush on Jared Leto, aka Jordan Catalano from “My So Called Life”, when I was in middle school. He was the epitome of the 90′s grunge hottie.
Miranda,
LOVED Jordan Catalano. That was such a great show.
I’m glad to see other people eat millet for breakfast. My family thought I was weird when they saw me making some. Your bowl of millet looks good.
I loved Joey McIntyre from New Kids on the Block! I had the pillow case with his face on it and the sleeping bag to match. He’s still pretty cute as a grown up too! I would LOVE to win the Almondie to make my own HEAB-ified almond milk or spread on my carrots! YUMMY! I also liked the almondie facebook page as well:)
Lindsay,
I liked Joey as well – he had (has) amazing eyes.
Almondie butter looks so good!
It pains me to admit it but I was convinced that I would one day end up with either Jonathan Taylor Thomas or Devon Sawa. This was clearly before Leonardo DiCaprio came onto the scene and took over my celebrity obsessions for my tween years
That porridge looks beautimous:)
Ah! I want to win the Almondie sooo bad! I miss my but butters so and I think Almondie would actually not hurt my tummy since the skins are gone.
I liked Almondie on FB. Thanks Heaby!
lol. My but butters? Oh dear Emily. I meant NUT butters
Oh, as a kid would be Ken Griffey Jr from the Seattle Mariners (he has a cute butt) and then when I was a bit older I was obsessed with Freddie Prinze Jr!
Oh man, my childhood crush was TOTALLY Leonardo DiCaprio back when he was on Growing Pains.
Swoon.
I stopped using Facebook, but my favorite movie character as a child was Orlando Bloom (I’m still quite young), he’s adorable.
Just Fanned Almondie on FB.
Just posted your giveaway on my Cultivating Consciousness FB page!
oh how i loved Heath Ledger’s character in 10 Things I Hate About You. i compared all boys to him, and many years later when he passed away, i was totally distraught.
I made millet porridge recently, except I cheated and didn’t toast or soak the millet groats. Basically I just ground raw millet into flour and cooked it. Yeah, didn’t go so well. I’ll have to try her method!
Lovely bowl, by the way
Emilia,
I think toasting it probably makes all the difference in the world!
I was totally in love with Jonathan Taylor Thomas (from Tool Time!)….hubba hubba!!!!
“Like” them on Facebook
Favorite TV star as a kid…totally Jesse from Full House

I think I’m seeing a pattern here…
I liked Almondie on facebook!
Hmm…I really can’t remember any TV/movie celebs I was into when I was younger, but I had a REALLY huge crush on Lance Bass from NSync…(this is so embarrassing considering what I know now, haha!)
JTT all the way
I liked their page!
I had a Romeo & Juliet phase (we were studying the novel in school, and I had to have the movie and soundtrack), so Leo diCaprio had a place in my heart… I still really like that soundtrack, but I don’t think I was ever really that boy crazy. I did, however, marry my high school sweetheart! <3
I don’t know about movies or TV, but I was totally in love with Aaron Carter when I was little. I thought he was so dreamy.

)
Scott Baio from Charles in Charge. That’s so embarrassing now.
Bo and Luke Duke – hotties!
When I was 7, I loved all of the members of N*Sync (I never could remember all of their names, though)
I liked them on facebook. I’ve never heard of this brand, so excited!
I’m not sure I crushed on anyone. Sometimes I imagined that I was married to the cartoon male leads though!
In this order: Leonardo DiCaprio (as seen on Growing Pains), Will Smith, Johnny Depp. Nowadays I’m all about Robert Downey, Jr.
I crushed on Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Justin Timberlake.
I liked Almondie Almond Butter on facebook.
i was sooooo in love w/ jared leto from my so called life! i’ve always been a sucker for the bad boys!
(Jumping up and down, waving hands): Me! I want some! That looks YUMMY!!!!
I’m almost afraid to talk about my girlhood crushes, as it makes me feel even older than I already do, lol!
Let’s just say that my high school and college days were taken up with many daydreams starring Timothy Dalton.
I’m kinda young, but as a younger person, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of Aaron Carter. Does he count as a movie/tv star? He’s a singer . . .
I’m still a kiddo (13) and don’t have any crushes on any of those guys, instead, at night I dream about hummus, pesto, and tomatoes from the farmers market!
Sorry to be such a stinker.
mmmm i love millet, what a fabulous idea! that looks unbelievably creamy!
Jonathan Taylor Thomas (JTT, as I affectionately called him!) I was slight– ok, wildly– obsessed.
I was (I mean, still am) totally into Leonardo DiCaprio!
I looked for the “love” button on Facebook, but I couldn’t find it. I hope the “like” button sufficed though.
I liked them on FB!
I shared the link on FB!
Once I saw Dirty Dancing, I was carrrrrrazy about Patrick Swayze! I so wanted to be Baby!
I loved the Karate Kid:)
Well I’m 18 now and I used to (and maybe still have) the biggest crush on nick Jonas
Kevin Costner with out a doubt!
And I absolutely have to make some millet porridge for dinner tonight – better get soaking that millet – for a few hours that is! Heather – that looks absolutely heavenly!

Thanks, Heather for your great blog! I really enjoy reading your new posts and trying out your recipe ideas!

I was in love with Christopher Reeve – “Superman”
I love that you’ve posted about soaking – I’ve been doing a bit of that recently and appreciate the benefit from it. I’m going to attempt to make a sourdough starter from brown rice to make a gluten free bread – I’m a little apprehensive and feel like I should be smarter – but I’ve got to find a way to make a good gluten free bread that I’m not spending an arm and leg for
Have a beautiful week!
I had a crush on Orlando Bloom. I still do.
I liked them on facebook!
I shared it on FB!
Bo Duke. Loved him.
I liked the page on FB, AND I shared it!
Plus… I had a total no-holds-barred crush on Jonathan Brandis. Remember him from Seaquest DSV and Ladybugs (that movie with Rodney Dangerfield? I was so in love with that boy… he was super cute! I was so sad to hear he killed himself some years later. He made my middle school years VERY interesting with my girlfriends!
Konnie,
Someone else mentioned him, but I didn’t realize who he was until you said Ladybugs. Didn’t know he killed himself. How sad.
Do we have to do all three? I’d love to try some of that!
..oh gosh – loved Alex Keaton.
But what about Kirk Cameron!? “Growing Pains” – dreamy
Shawn Cassidy….and yes, I am THAT old…. But I still feel young inside.
i liked almondie on facebook!
i loved leonardo di caprio! haha
Jonathan Taylor Thomas
Not sure what it says about me that I crushed on Tim Curry. When I was little, HBO used to run a movie called “The Worst Witch” every Halloween. It featured Tim Curry as the Grand Wizard and I got way too excited about watching it every year.
Joanna,
I remember The Worst Witch – I looked forward to it every Halloween.
Oh man I loved Fred Savage like whoa when I was little! The Princess Bride was my favorite movie and I never missed an episode of the Wonder Years. I got a letter once “from Fred Savage” when my mom sent our address to one of those things that used to be in the backs of magazines. I screamed so loud when I got it my step brother spilled his cereal.
No Facebook but I loved Kirk Cameron from growing pains! Crazy thing is I saw him not too long ago in Westlake not too far from my house. I was still smitten
I’m only just entering the world of breakfast grain bowls. Used to be an eggs-for-break type of person, but I may have to peruse through some of your old posts for grainy-bowl ideas! These look delish.
Even at the fair age of six, I recognized the sex appeal of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. I watched those movies over and over and over, and to this day I still don’t think there’s ever been anything sexier.
Hoping to try the Almondie – the almond milk trick looked awesome!
you are going to laugh…. paul scofield (embarrassed look). i loved his shakespeare, and especially his thomas more in a man for all seasons. yes i like ‘em all.
(it’s the old wizened look you see!
Emily,
NOT laughing.
I loved the Disney Villian Guys!!!
Liked Almondie!
Out of curiosity, what’s millet taste like? I’ve never had it.
Mimi,
Honestly, I think millet is my favorite gluten free grain. It’s got a mild flavor – a little nutty maybe?
Patrick Dempsey in Can’t Buy Me Love…I did like Alex Keaton too, but always thought he was too short for me!
Gotta get my hands on this Almondie!
Definitely Leo!!!
I definitely crushed on Sam Anders from Clarissa Explains It All.
I was also was envious of Blossom because of all her “cool outfits”.

I’m dating myself here, but while my best friends were wacthing their Tom Cruise festivals (on VHS, in the living room), I was secretly crushing on Rob Lowe. His face was just beautiful!
I doubt I’m eligible, but I may or may not have had such a huge crush on Russell Crowe in grade 8 that I cried when I found out he was dating Meg Ryan.
I “liked” them on facebook!
I had a poster of Jonathan Taylor Thomas in my 5th grade locker– I was in love
I wanted to be Benny’s (from the children’s movie, the Sandlot) wife!
Hi Heather, Thanks for the chance to enter to win the Almondie Almond butter! I did “like” them on Facebook. Tahini, too!! Excellent.
The millet looks deliciouus! I’m with you. Oat bran is my favorite. But this sound great. I didn’t like millet all that much when I cooked it…that may have been my technique…but this sounds great, especially the toasting part. Probably makes it nutty and yummy. Thanks and have a great day!!
I totally crushed on Heath Ledger for the longest time. LOVED his messy, curly hair. It is such a shame what happened to him, especially after such and spectacularly well done role in The Dark Knight. :*(
I liked the Almondie page on Facebook!
I liked Almondie on Facebook! AND I was obsessed with Paul Walker
I also shared the post on facebook. Woohoo!
I like Almondie on Facebook!
That millet bowl looks the creamiest ever Heather, and what a pretty bowl!
When I was growing up all my friends and cousins had crushes on Tom Cruise, but I always liked Chris O Donnel, cute! (I had a poster of him! haha!)
Ana
I was totally obsessed with Mike Seaver!!
Kirk Cameron, without a doubt! Also Donnie Wahlberg, my favorite New Kid
).
Oh man. Now I know he’s not a tv or movie star, but i was crazy over John Mayer as an early teen – before he became a creepy jerk and dated half of hollywood.
Even earlier than that, though – i loved Chris O’Donnell, especially as Robin in Batman Forever….swooonnn
I’m going to have to try this… I have a container of millet in the pantry that NEEDS to be used, but I’m just not crazy about it. Every time I try a different grain I find myself longing for my tried-and-trues: oats, quinoa, and brown rice.
And I don’t even DARE switching up my breakfast grains from my beloved oats! I’m always left disappointed and wishing for a second breakfast. =(
Fred Savage! Nuff said.
I liked Almondie on FB!
My childhood crush was probably Jonathan Taylor Thomas. When I was like seven years old I thought he was the cutest boy ever in that movie about Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.

I loved Leonardo Dicaprio in Titanic when I was about 10.
Not on facebook, but I had a huge crush on Michael J. Fox!!
oh my gosh. I was a little boy-crazy as a child, so lots of famous crushes. The one that comes to mind first is Zachary Ty Brian from Home Improvement, because I met him at some car show my dad dragged me to. Also, Devon Sawa and Jonathon Brandis.
Love scrolling through other people’s entries and remembering some of these names/shows!!

As far as actors go, I was into Josh Hartnett and Jonathan Brandis. But my first significant crush was not an actor. It was the incomparable Zach Hanson.
I liked them on facebook!
And then I shared it on my facebook!
And now I am sharing my undying love for Jordan from NKONB with you all. Clearly I would love to try Almondie!
Ooops, he’s not an actor… My actor childhood crush was definitely Leonardo DiCaprio!

YES ALMONDIE
I watched George of the Jungle so many times (Brendan Frasier) that I could say the lines one step ahead. Same with Robin Hood Men in Tights (Cary Elwes, although he is not the same dashing fellow he used to be…).
Andrew Keegan of course!
I was in love with Zack Morris. I watched Saved By the Bell faithfully. My sister and I would play make-believe and I always wanted to be Kelly. I seriously cried when they broke up. I still can’t here, “How am I supposed to live without you?” without thinking about that sad sad break-up.
JTT, Leo DiCaprio and Christina Ricci. Wednesday Addams, hmmm….
I had a crush on Jack Lord from Hawii 5-0 as a kid. I thought he was sexy standing on that roof with his perfect hair in the beginning of the show! He was much too old for me but I just thought he was gorgeous~
In lieu of a facebook (without one), I will say I am planning on marrying John Krasinski // Jim from The Office. I’m sure he has the same plans and we will be happily eating almondie
Love Almond Butter! I commented and liked the facebook page! Cant wait to try some Almondie!

Ha ha. I was in love with Jason Priestly from the early 90210 episodes.
Loved that hair!
I had several phases of crushes. I believe the first was any or all of the Backstreet Boys. Whichever one my friends didn’t pick so I could be ‘original’ and we didn’t have to fight over them.
I can never forget my Leonardo DiCaprio phase and I’ve got a box full of posters to prove it!
Just liked it on Facebook!
I liked this on facebook
I like almond butter!
