True To Myself

by HEAB on May 27, 2011

HEAB got a new look. Times have changed, and I’m not the same person I was when I started this blog. Heck, I’m not the same person I was 6 months ago, and my blog design no longer felt like me. Recently, Rachel introduced me to Caitlin from Roost. I checked out her portfolio at Lark Creatif, immediately fell in love with her work, and contacted her about designing a new header for HEAB. My input was kind of random – something simple and whimsical. Beautiful, yet granola. Caitlin, it is beautiful and perfect, and I love it. Also, I must thank Cory at Zesty Blog Consulting for implementing Caitlin’s design. Thank you both – I could not be more grateful.

My new look has inspired me. I’ve mentioned taking the blog in a different direction, but honestly, I’m not sure what that means. I just want to post about my daily life. Sometimes, that may mean a bowl of delicious oat bran or a post that has nothing to do with food. I often find myself trying new recipes just so I can have something to blog about. Don’t get me wrong – I love spending time creating in the kitchen, but it’s not something I want to force upon myself. I’m also trying to get away from product reviews. If you’ve noticed, I’ve been doing a lot of them lately, and it’s because I had all these samples that companies had sent, literally piles of them sitting in 3 different rooms of the house. I wanted to get through all of them, do the giveaways, and get back to posting random bits of my day. Is that okay? I’ll still do reviews/giveaways on occasion if it’s a product I truly believe in, but I’m starting to feel used by certain companies. It’s a pretty icky feeling.

It’s time for me to go, but first I have something delicious to share with you…

Spinach sauteed in ghee and topped with blue cheese crumbles, raw almonds, fresh ground pepper, and Black Truffle and Fresh Thyme Herb Sea Salt

I ♥ simple meals…and flavored sea salt. Enjoy your holiday weekend!

I’ve been wanting to start a blog for the past 2 years, but didn’t want to stick to one theme. Finally a week or two ago I decided I didn’t need to fit a certain theme…it’s my blog and I want to write about whatever inspires me! So I started one and am having so much fun already. It’s a bit all over the place, but that is totally me…I love variety! I love your new design!

Ameena May 31, 2011 at 11:05 pm

I love the new header Heather! I usually read your blog from my phone so I had to log on to my computer to see the changes (thus why I’m a few days late with this comment!). I’ve been reading for a long, long time, since the beginning, and I think you do a great job blogging about your life and now your gorgeous little girl.

Kudos to you for evolving your blog as you evolve!

Mali K (The Mali K Whey) May 30, 2011 at 7:37 am

I love the new look! Beautiful. xxx

Kath (My Funny Little Life) May 29, 2011 at 1:14 pm

You know I love simple things, and so I love our spinach dish and your header as well (plus the millet porridge ;)) – seriously, it looks so fresh and clean, and especially the look as if it was printed on linen.

Kath (My Funny Little Life) May 29, 2011 at 1:15 pm

*Actually*, I wanted to say, “I especially like”, but I was too breathless with typing again … 😉

Brittany (Eating Bird Food) May 29, 2011 at 8:00 am

The new header is so pretty Heather. I love it.

Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli May 28, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Love the new look Heather! So simple and fresh looking! You know I love you AND your blog…whatever you want to do, I’ll still be here! I hope you are having a great holiday weekend and enjoying this beautiful weather!

Alison @ The Peacock Diaries May 28, 2011 at 1:01 pm

Your blog looks LOVELY! Caitlin did a great job!

I’ve tried to make my blog as pretty as possible with my limited html skills and basic Blogger tools, but I hope that one day I’m blogging enough to justify a custom design. Actually, after seeing this I am itching to do it right now!

I am a fairly new reader, but I look forward to following along with whatever direction your blog takes!

Alexandra May 28, 2011 at 10:33 am

Love the new look! About the blogging – food or not, I’ll still be reading. Go ahead, blog on whatever you’re inspired about that moment or that day!

Susan May 28, 2011 at 9:40 am

“Whimsical” is one of my favourite words!!! It has been since I first read it in Winnie the Pooh when I was a kid 🙂 Anyways, I love the new header, and I love the new direction you’re thinking for the blog. It’s very similar to what I’ve been trying to do with mine. Less food and products, more “whatever” 🙂

Dee May 28, 2011 at 8:40 am

I love the new blog design!!!

Allie May 28, 2011 at 7:03 am

Simple, whimsical, and absolutely Heather. 🙂 I think it’s lovely. And, I enjoy reading about little happenings in people’s days, there is a simplicity in the daily musings that is quite refreshing. Cheers.

Laura May 28, 2011 at 5:45 am

It looks beautiful! Love the new layout

Andrea M May 28, 2011 at 5:04 am

this is lovely – i love the renewal 🙂

Shannon May 28, 2011 at 5:03 am

I think it’s beautiful how we grow and evolve as people, and it’s wonderful your blog is evolving to suit you. I love the new design!

Thank you for the Zevia coupon!! Have a lovely holiday weekend! 🙂

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:35 am

You’re welcome. Glad it arrived. 🙂

Hannah May 28, 2011 at 4:49 am

I think it’s absolutely, absolutely wonderful that you’re adapting the blog to suit your sense of self more clearly! I don’t know if you’ve ever come to my blog much, but I’ve never seen mine as a pure “food blog” – often, I’m telling stories that have only a little bit, or nothing, to do with food, and I’m happy knowing that I’m writing what represents me rather than just what might be popular. I look forward to seeing more snippets of your daily life 🙂 xoxo

Rachel (tea and chocolate) May 28, 2011 at 1:56 am

The new header looks great! So simple and elegant.

Blog about whatever you want! It’s YOUR blog and we’ll keep reading. 🙂

s May 28, 2011 at 1:41 am

the redesign looks great. i especially like the logo, it seems very … heab. 🙂

Junia @ Mis Pensamientos May 28, 2011 at 12:27 am

i LOVE the new header! and i love the idea of moving your blog into a new direction of talking more about your daily life, snippets of food recipes, etc. life is all about change, isn’t it? just don’t leave the nut butter out hehehe. 🙂 looking forward to your posts!!

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:37 am

No worries, there will always be nut butter, but truth be told much more into seed butter these days. I’m sure you understand. 😉

Ashley May 27, 2011 at 11:56 pm

Even though I don’t really know you, the new design seems SO you!!! I love it. 🙂

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:38 am

Thanks Ashley. 🙂

Kelsey @ Clean Teen Kelsey May 27, 2011 at 11:24 pm

I was just about to say how much I loved your new header on a different post, but then I saw this one! It looks so so great. I love it. I totally support any direction that you take your blog! It is yours, after all, so you should feel free to post about whatever makes you happy that day. 🙂

Alyssa May 27, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I just discovered Roost blog a few days prior and fell in love immediately! Her look is so Anthropologie and I love yours as well!

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:39 am

Oh my gosh, isn’t Roost amazing? I love everything about Caitlin’s blog. Makes me want to drive down to Alabama and hang out with her. 🙂

Amanda @ The Beauty Notebooks May 27, 2011 at 10:53 pm

Beautiful new design! I came across Caitlin’s Roost site recently and love her creations too. I hope that I can use her services for my blog, too!

Love the direction your blog is going toward! Wherever it takes you, I will be along for the ride as a reader!

lena May 27, 2011 at 9:56 pm

cool! love the new look and looking forward to the change! 🙂 it’s very refreshing and am so glad for you, not that i didn’t like the old, i enjoy reading your blog be it on food or your daily activities, that was what got me reading in the first place, I do hope you will include Summer’s journey too! 🙂
thanks for sharing always! 🙂

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:40 am

I hope to blog about Summer every so often – she is my life now. 🙂

Alisa Fleming May 27, 2011 at 9:43 pm

I LOVE the new look Heather. It’s gorgeous and says so much and so little at the same time.

I hear you about feeling used. Burn through them and then get on with your life. We want to hear what you want to talk about 🙂

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:41 am

I can only imagine the number of samples you must get. I’m done! Unless, it’s something I feel really strongly about, then the answer is going to be “no thanks!”

Alisa Fleming May 28, 2011 at 10:15 am

Awesome, that’s all I would want to see on your blog anyways! I get torn, because go dairy free is more than just me, I’m doing a service. But I really don’t like the reviews. I need to get a review team on board 🙂

Alyssa May 27, 2011 at 9:26 pm

Another thumbs up for the new look! It’s beautiful!
And blog about whatever YOU want to; we’ll be here.

Katie May 27, 2011 at 9:25 pm

LOVE the new look, Heather! It’s clean, simple, and very chic. Congratulations! Can’t wait to keep following your journeys 🙂

Kath May 27, 2011 at 9:16 pm

The new site is GORGEOUS!! I also was inspired by Roost and thought about changing to a similar design but I was talked out of it. I guess I’m more of a photograph girl! But I absolutely LOVE what you have done!!

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:43 am

Thanks Kath. I love the look of your blog – it’s perfect b/c it’s you. 🙂

Natalie @ cinnamon bums May 27, 2011 at 9:13 pm

love the new look, heather! beautiful and refreshing. so excited to see where this blog is gonna grow – im sure it will only blossom in new wonderful ways =)

Meagan May 27, 2011 at 8:44 pm

Thanks for the comment about being “used” by other companies – that’s a different perspective I hadn’t thought of. I like the new banner, but I prefer the old one.

Fallon May 27, 2011 at 8:21 pm

I love the new look! Definitely fits your new way of how you want to blog.

Marty May 27, 2011 at 8:19 pm

I too love the new look, refreshing, light, a new chapter in your life! And, dinner, well, heavenly! I’ll have mine with goat cheese please! I know what I’m making for dinner tonight!

Baking Books May 27, 2011 at 8:09 pm

I’ll say it again – the header is perfect and so you. Love it.

I love this post as well. First – uh – “sauteed in ghee” and then bleu cheese crumbles…oh yes, please – that is my kind of salad (greens included) 🙂

Second, I had noticed you were doing quite a few product reviews and didn’t frequent quite as often. Truthfully, I find it to be a bit “icky” pending…I mean everyone loves a give-away! But I don’t read blogs – yours – for giveaways or products. Lord knows I have enough of my own nut butters! 😉

So, I am really, really glad you are going to just do what feels ‘you’. Definitely ‘granola’, definitely organic…most definitely – authentic.

Happy weekend HEAB 🙂

Ana May 27, 2011 at 7:59 pm

I absolutely love the new header, it is zen and granola and totally you!
And I so get what you mean about the blog and how we change and want the blog to change. I have had mine since 2005 but I feel like it doesn’t reflect me as well as I would like today, or doesn’t show who I really am right now. I have been wanting to change my blog, maybe even start a new one, different name and all… something I have been thinking 24/7 these past few days that I am having a lot more free time.
And you are so right about not being used or trying to carry your blog as other want you to. This is supposed to be your space, something that reflects you and that is true to your personality. We do change and those changes will be welcome to those readers who truly like you, and I am one of them!

HEAB May 28, 2011 at 7:49 am

Thanks Ana, and I say go for the new blog. Do it – I’d love to learn more about the present day Ana. 🙂

Maren May 27, 2011 at 7:37 pm

I love the new header! It’s so refreshing! And I love seeing your changes as blogger and person! 🙂

Jill May 27, 2011 at 7:00 pm

I LIKE hearing about people’s daily life 🙂 You could just say it’s my nosiness coming out, but honestly, I think the unpredictability of everyday life makes for such good posts. Of course as your friend I’m biased, but I’ve been really loving the randomness of your posts lately. Zevia candle holders that you really enjoyed making > forced elaborate recipes.

And speaking of randomness/everyday life, I’ll leave you with some hilarious comments from one of the kids that I started babysitting (she’s 6):

“Jill, I was just wondering, do cicadas poop out their babies?”

“I’m making a peanut butter sandwich for lunch. Then I’m going to put more peanut butter on another piece of bread, eat it, and then just eat peanut butter right from the jar” —>girl after my own heart

Didn’t laugh in front of her (at least too much-especially about the first one), but laughed hysterically in my car after. Enjoy your weekend + gorgeous new header (I think if you looked like a header you’d look like this new one!)

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Jill, hilarious. I need to meet these kids! I’ll bring the PB. 🙂

Thanks so much – I’ve totally want to look like my header! Is that weird? I have a major crush on it. 🙂

The Dainty Pig May 27, 2011 at 6:42 pm

LOVE the new look.
It is really beautiful…Nice colours, and has a great energy 🙂
Big hugs to you for a happy weekend!

AnitaRuiz May 27, 2011 at 6:16 pm

I love the new header. Simple and fresh 🙂 I have been a reader now for a year and I look forward to reading whichever direction you choose your blog to head.

melissa @ the delicate place May 27, 2011 at 6:07 pm

i love it! i love clean minimalist design. my hubs is a web designer and has been begging me to just self host already so he can give it an overhaul since i’ve just been using a template from wordpress. maybe i just should make the jump! he’s great at what he does!

Pure2raw Twins May 27, 2011 at 5:37 pm

I thought I noticed the blog looking different yesterday. It looks great! Love it!!! And we are not the same people when we first started our blog either but I think that is ok because that is life. We learn, we change and we grow! 🙂 xoxo

rebecca lustig May 27, 2011 at 5:24 pm

the times, they are a changin. LOVe the new look!

robyn jones clark May 27, 2011 at 5:17 pm

from a graphic designer, your new site is lovely and really fits you. i love it. it’s actually calming. 🙂

ashley May 27, 2011 at 5:14 pm

How beautiful!! Love it…and your blog : ) It was one of the first I started reading, and will always be one of my favorites! And Summer simply has to be one of the cutest babies I’ve ever seen!

Eleanor@eatinglikeahorse May 27, 2011 at 4:45 pm

I love the new look! It suits the blog perfectly 🙂
And I think daily life with food bits added sounds great… especially when the food’s spinach!

Samantha May 27, 2011 at 4:29 pm

The new look is wonderful, very inviting! It’s commendable that you are allowing your blog to suit who you have been, are and are becoming. One would like to think that most blogs are read not only for the content, but for the writer’s themselves, regardless of topic. Looking forward to the menagerie to continue!

J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) May 27, 2011 at 4:23 pm

The new design is lovely, Heather! Congrats!

I think it’s wonderful and healthy for your blog to evolve with your life. I would be concerned if I or anyone else I knew was exactly the same today as they were five or ten years ago, lol.

Here’s to new chapters! 🙂

McKayla @ Green Groats May 27, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Very excited to follow you as you take your blog in new directions!!

katie @KatieDid May 27, 2011 at 3:52 pm

yay this feels much more like you!! I really really love it. It’s great that blogs can always be changing and progressing to fit one’s personality and tastes as they change as well. Yours particularly is one of my absolute favorites 🙂

Sarah @ See Sarah Eat May 27, 2011 at 3:47 pm

I love the new look too! And I love what you said about blogging direction, I too want to switch to blogging about my daily life and all that encompasses, not just food and exercise. It’s taken me a while to get there, I finally decided food and exercise did not have to be separate and that just because my blog has the word “eat” in it does not mean that’s all I can write about. Thank you for being such a positive influence 🙂

Lori May 27, 2011 at 3:25 pm

The new header looks great and I am looking forward to whatever is to come!

Lenna May 27, 2011 at 3:12 pm

The new blog design is cute, very calm and relaxing! I love it:)

Jamie May 27, 2011 at 3:09 pm

Wow! I really like the new look..AND the new outlook. 😉

I relate much more to your sensibility and personality than your recipes. I can honestly say that I will probably never try millet porridge, but I read your blog because I like you! So congrats for being true to yourself. These little “inspiration recipes” are what I look forward to taking from your blog in the future.

Em May 27, 2011 at 2:56 pm

Hi dear! I love the new header and design, it is very *you*!
I think it is wonderful you are staying true to your heart and taking your blog with you whichever direction your life takes you. Honestly, I would enjoy anything you blogged about, whether it’s cute labels for your jars (um, I recently did that too, with the exact same jars! =dork) or if it’s about sweet Summer, yoga, walking, delicious food- anything. Your personality and genuine spirit are what I enjoy and look forward to when I read daily, so really- the topics are just icing on the cake (or coconut cream;)
Love ya!

Little Bookworm May 27, 2011 at 2:54 pm

Love the new header! It is really pretty and definitely suits your blog/you. 🙂

Sarah May 27, 2011 at 2:34 pm

Gorgeous. So simply and pretty. That spinach is calling my name!

Marcia @Frugal Healthy Simple May 27, 2011 at 2:33 pm

I think your blog is awesome. I know what you mean as far as your life/blog changing. I think that’s what keeps things interesting.

I don’t have the sample problem. Not that popular, don’t solicit them, and I think they would overwhelm me and be another thing on my “to do” list that would drive me crazy. As a mom, I have enough things on my to do list.

I love trying new recipes, but sometimes you just want to go home, throw a veggie burger in a pan, and make a salad. (or is that just me?)

The Teenage Taste May 27, 2011 at 2:23 pm

Love, love, LOVE the new header, HEAB! 😀

Susan May 27, 2011 at 2:21 pm

I love it! It’s clean, classy, and a little hippie-ish. Just like you!

Lauren at Keep It Sweet May 27, 2011 at 2:17 pm

I love the new look and the header is exactly as you described it!

Angel7 May 27, 2011 at 2:14 pm

I really like the new look of your blog! It is very whimsical!

Nora @ Natural Noshing May 27, 2011 at 1:53 pm

LOVE the new header and the new look – clean, simple and stunning!!! Good for you for doing what YOU want to do with your blog – after all, it’s suppose to be something you enjoy and makes you happy 🙂 I’ll follow and love it no matter what direction it takes! Have a great holiday weekend!

Caitlin May 27, 2011 at 1:50 pm

Yay! Thank you for the sweet mention! I am so thankful we got to work together and even more grateful I am now a full time HEAB reader 🙂 looking forward to all you share!

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 2:22 pm

I can’t thank YOU enough. So happy every time I look at my new header. 🙂

jen @ taste life May 27, 2011 at 1:46 pm

Heather, I love the new look! Also, please just blog about your life! Honestly, there are some blogs I used to love back when they just sort of blogged about their lives and threw a recipe or two in there that I hardly ever read anymore because it’s much less about the person and much more about the products or recipes. I read blogs when I like the person, and I like you! So just write about whatever you want 🙂

Courtney May 27, 2011 at 1:40 pm

Love the new look! 😀 😀

zoe (and the beatles) May 27, 2011 at 1:38 pm

is that okay?!?! no need to ask, heather because a) this is YOUR blog and b) i’ll read anything you put up on here :)! i love your words because you use them wisely and i’ve learned so much from you. you’re an incredible inspiration to me. people grow and change constantly. i think it’s really admirable of you to want to reflect the changes you’re experiencing on your blog. i feel like a lot of other bloggers might not do the same. i guess what i am trying to say is just stay true to yourself, even if that self is changing! but i think you already do a wonderful job of doing that :)!

lovelovelove the new lay out. i am all about simplicity too and everything just looks so beautiful.

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 2:23 pm

Thanks so much Zoe. 🙂

Marina May 27, 2011 at 1:27 pm

The new desing looks really beautiful, and I think it suits you.
I understand that you feel overwhelmend with the reviews, wish I could do some instead 😀
Unfortunately, I’m on the wrong side of the world 😉

lindsay May 27, 2011 at 1:26 pm

I love the new look. Its feels like home.

Kristin (Cook, Bake, Nibble) May 27, 2011 at 12:52 pm

The blog looks absolutely AMAZING! I love it. And YOU are amazing as well- wherever you decide take the blog I will be there, reading along. I love all of your beautiful posts. xoxo

nicole May 27, 2011 at 12:52 pm

I love the new look. It seems more you overall. And yeah, you go ahead and write about whatever you want…we love you no matter what! If we can deal with looking at your baby poop dinner photos …. hahaha xoxo

kellie May 27, 2011 at 12:51 pm

FRANKLY the favorite part of your blog (for me anyway) is when you share sweet pictures of your darling little Summer :o) Oat bran is just not that cute, ya know?? LOL
Anyway… as I said the other day, I checked out Roost also… then Lark. wowza. love her stuff (actually I was in love as soon as I saw the “book” that holds all her info). Maybe I’ll have to contact her to update my photography blog.
Thanks for sharing and just keep doing what you do… it’s not your oat bran that keeps us coming back ;0)

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Haha, you’re right. Summer is much cuter.

Caitlin’s book on Lark – isn’t that the coolest presentation ever? Seriously, I am so in love with her style, and she was so great to work with. Highly recommend her!

Emily May 27, 2011 at 12:48 pm

I love the new look!

Corey @ runners cookie May 27, 2011 at 12:36 pm

Love the new look, Heather! Very soft and peaceful. I think it’s fine to not know exactly what the new direction you want to take the blog in will look like – as long as you know what you want to write about and stay true to that, everything will fall into place. The way you describe wanting to write about your day to day life, whether it’s about food, Summer, yoga, or anything else…to me that sounds like what your blog already is. And your readers love it! No need to put pressure on yourself to produce certain content – we won’t be going anywhere!

Cate May 27, 2011 at 12:26 pm

I LOVE it! I often wondered if you would ever change it. It’s still simple and no-frills, which is what I’ve always loved about your blog as a whole, but now it’s fresh and bright too.

Megan May 27, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Love it all, Heather!! Will be here every day no matter what you’re writing about!

Melanie May 27, 2011 at 12:24 pm

The new header is very pretty, and there’s nothing wrong with the style and content evolving with you. Post about whatever you want…I think that, by now, your readership follows you because they like who you are and think your life is interesting, not because you’ve always got a great picture of a bowl of oat bran. And there are already enough “oat bran” food blogs out there anyway. I liked yesterday’s post about the labels…that was pretty freaking creative:). And the candle holders? Very cool. And I still chuckle every now and then to this day when I remember CD’s inappropriate message on the eggshells. That’s so something that Joey and I would do.

FTR, I’m glad you’re getting away from the product reviews. I don’t usually read them anyway on any of the blogs I read.

My only “critical comment?” I think that the pups have been getting neglected a little on the blog since Summer came along;). Drop us some Einstein/Radley pics every now and then so we know they’re still alive and well;).

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:49 pm

Roger that Melanie. Will do.
Thanks for the support. 🙂

Shelby May 27, 2011 at 12:19 pm

I cannot tell you enough how much I adore you! The blog is STUNNING. I am in love with the design and as always, love reading your posts. You could write about doing the dishes and I would still read!

I got the same feeling when I was blogging, too much promotion, not enough me. And the same thing with the recipes, I just don’t have the time to make a bunch of new recipes all the time (nor do I want to, I frequently eat the same thing everyday). So glad you are staying true to yourself and blogging about what you want!

Oh and PS- Currently getting ready to laze by the pool and get some sun, I made it to Arizona! 🙂

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:49 pm

Yay, I was wondering how your trip went. Soak in some of that beautiful sunshine for me. I’m currently doing laundry. Perhaps I’ll blog about it tomorrow. Hehe. 😉

Alexandra May 27, 2011 at 12:18 pm

yes, i definitely feel you — and i know what you mean about wanting to post about “your daily life” which could include a simple picture of breakfast, a recipe, or something else, completely unrelated to food. i like the way you worded that — xxx
and i know what you feel about product reviews. i am “toning down” on that as well. icky feelings…

well, i love your new blog header!

Desi@ThePalatePeacemaker May 27, 2011 at 12:18 pm

Heather! I LOVE the new look. The header is so gorgeous. “Whimsical AND granola” through and through. Bravo Caitlin! 🙂

Cara @ EAT. PRAY. RUN. May 27, 2011 at 12:16 pm

Your makeover looks clean and amazing. I love it – you did a wonderful job. I also loved reading about staying true to yourself. Blogging should be fun and a source of expression without too much added pressure. Keep up the good work, Heather!

Danielle May 27, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Oh my gosh, your header is BEAUTIFUL! And so fitting too. Congrats on the lovely redesign :).

birdie to be May 27, 2011 at 12:12 pm

I love the header! And change is good. Embrace it.

Lara (Thinspired) May 27, 2011 at 12:04 pm

I love the new look, Heabie. It seems representative of your whimsical, willowly, beautiful self 🙂

Emilia @ Namaste Gurl May 27, 2011 at 11:58 am

Love the new blog design– it really so IS you and fits perfectly. I agree- while being creative in the kitchen is great, it’s good to branch out and post about different things other than food. 🙂 I often feel pressured by not having enough food recipes or being creative enough. Really though, it’s my blog and I can do what I want with it, no? 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sarah R May 27, 2011 at 11:58 am

Love it all! Blogging shouldn’t feel like an obligation. Your true readers will stick around no matter what you’re posting!

“I’ve mentioned taking the blog in a different direction, but honestly, I’m not sure what that means. “–

I think I’m always taking my blog in a different direction yet have no idea what that means either. I don’t even mention any “directions” anymore b/c it confuses people and i confuse So sometimes that means some weeks there’s lots of food/new recipes, other weeks it’s more product reviews (which btw i think it’s GREAT you’re moving away, cleaning out the stash and doing it all and then scaling back if that feels better for you) and other weeks it’s more skylar pics and life stuff for me…so it’s a constant ebb and flow for me too. I think it is more most bloggers that don’t have a straight up and down recipe blog, or a straight home decor blog. There are always other things woven into the posts.

Btw been reading Roost in stealth, and also Aura Joon and love them both. Thanks for that linky love.

Your new header is fabulous. I remember when you were taking polls and asking for photographic submissions of AB jars from people. Wow, time flies. And times change.

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:47 pm

I knew you would love Roost – aren’t her photos amazing? Aura Joon too – just love her style. Two very talented ladies!

Cherie Pilliod May 27, 2011 at 11:52 am

Very pretty, Heather Pie. Fresh and clean.

Tabitha May 27, 2011 at 11:49 am

Love your new look and your readiness to be yourself.
I’ve only been blogging for a year but am feeling that turnaround, I started in the style blogging category but you know, I’m not solely that person done days I wear the same clothes for days in a row. I’m trying to break out to being my intrinsic self too.
I have read your blog for such s long time and know instinctively that wherever you take this I will still love it because of who you are. Oh and I loved the candleholders!

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Thanks Tabitha, we’ll both find our blogging personas soon. I can feel it. 🙂

Kristina @ spabettie May 27, 2011 at 11:48 am

LOVE the new look, Heather! it’s perfect.

I’m excited to see how your posts will evolve – it’s good to do what you want and not feel forced.

I am a product junkie, and love to share reviews and giveaways with my readers… but when companies approach me I always tell them they can send me something, I will review it before I commit to a giveaway, and that I reserve the right to not review it on the blog if I don’t like it. I like to keep things positive, would rather not do a negative review, and I learned a long time ago that people don’t always READ… I would hate to be giving a review of something I didn’t like only to have someone think I did. 😉 I agree it’s overwhelming too, and I feel guilty if the company gets back to me asking when the review will be, if I haven’t had the time yet!

have a wonderful weekend!

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:44 pm

Thanks for the advice Kristina, I like your approach.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend as well. 🙂

Abby @ Have Dental Floss, Will Travel May 27, 2011 at 11:48 am

I happened to go to your actual webpage yesterday (instead of reading via google reader) and noticed the new look, but didn’t want to comment in case it had been in place for awhile and I’d just missed it 🙂 Looks great!

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg May 27, 2011 at 11:47 am

Oooh, I love it!!! Looks so fresh and calming!

I totally know what you mean about product reviews, endorsements, etc. I’ve had to stop reading some of my formerly favorite blogs because they just started to sound too much like…well, commercials!!

Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing May 27, 2011 at 11:46 am

Heather, I love, love, love your new header, and your “life” posts, and your general philosophy. Do it to it and be who you are! That’s why we keep reading. We like who you are 🙂 And that remains true with or without new recipes and such. Lots of love as you explore how you want to shape your blog. <3

Ricki May 27, 2011 at 11:45 am

Congrats on your new look! It really is beautiful–love the colors and the simplicity. It’s important to change up things in our lives as we change. . . you’ve done so with panache here. 🙂

Felicia (Natural + Balanced) May 27, 2011 at 11:44 am

I love the new look heather!! Have a great weekend, and always look forward to your posts 🙂

coco May 27, 2011 at 11:42 am

love the new header, so pretty and simple!

i understand what you mean by cook for blog, not just blog what you cook and eat. that’s why I switched my blog direction too, more life dairy than food blog. ultimately the blog is for us, to record our life happenings! looking forward to read more about life posts! 🙂

Sylvia @ LifeIsGoodWithFood May 27, 2011 at 11:37 am

I love the new header! Just wanted to wait until you posted before I commented on that 😉 I think it really suits you and please don’t stress yourself out with product reviews or anything else in life; life is meant to be enjoyed 😀

On the note about the flavored sea salt, I also just got a sampler pack from Foodzie! I signed up for their May goodies box and there were so many delicious goodies inside! They had another sea salt that I don’t remember the name of but I’m dying to try 🙂

Have a wonderful Friday, love<3

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:42 pm

Yes, that is where my sea salt came from. So good, but that seaweed stuff was NASTY. I spit it out and washed my mouth out with the biscotti. 😉

Alex @ Spoonful of Sugar Free May 27, 2011 at 11:37 am

Ohmygosh, Heather I LOVE it! I liked the last one, too, but this is definitely more “you.”

And…I am making some more homemade coconut butter As I type this….such a genius you are…(there I go talking like yoda again! What’s gotten into me?)

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:41 pm

Never knew you were such a Star Wars fan. Enjoy your coconut butter. I need to make some – it’s been too long since I’ve had any!

Alex @ Spoonful of Sugar Free May 29, 2011 at 1:56 pm

Ha! I didn’t know either!

Donna @ Love, Run & Travel May 27, 2011 at 11:37 am

Its just lovely Heather 🙂

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) May 27, 2011 at 11:34 am

I have to be honest, I got this weird feeling last weekend…for the first time in years, I felt like myself. I know that seems weird to some people, but I am one of those people that seemed to have a hard time finding out who I am. I completely hear you on changing things and I know you are on to something great! The site looks beautiful. Have a great weekend Heather!

HEAB May 27, 2011 at 1:40 pm

I totally get it. I’m so right there with you – finally feel like I am coming into myself. 🙂

Gavi @ Gavi Gets Going! May 27, 2011 at 11:33 am

Your header is beautiful, just like you and your family! Thank you for continuing to share the evolving narrative of your life. Like so many of your readers, I can’t wait to see what comes next! 🙂

Love the new look and header!

Clare @ Fitting It All In May 27, 2011 at 11:27 am

Love the new look Heather! Based on your posts, the new header is exactly how I would imagine your personality and sensibility to be – calm, beautiful, and a bit whimsical.

VEGirl May 27, 2011 at 11:26 am

What beautiful new banner! I am supportive of anything you want to do to HEAB– blogs have to change with the person!

Mara @ What's For Dinner? May 27, 2011 at 11:25 am

The new look is just beautiful, and way more “you” I think 🙂 Love you my friend!

Kim @ girlevolving May 27, 2011 at 11:24 am

Love the new look, HEAB!!! 🙂

Holly @ The Runny Egg May 27, 2011 at 11:04 am

I love your new header!

I try to only say ‘yes’ to certain product reviews — I don’t want to be a commercial, I want to be me! And I love how your posts have been lately. I really enjoy them!

Maggie @ Say Yes to Salad May 27, 2011 at 10:52 am

Heather I love the new look. It’s very YOU. It’s so clean and simple but elegant at the same time. And balanced 🙂

I will always be reading; I love everything you post about!

I like the new direction of your blog. I liked it before, but I think I like it even better now! Love hearing about your creative projects and all the fun baby time!

Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee May 27, 2011 at 10:48 am

I love the new blog header! It looks great!

Shay May 27, 2011 at 10:45 am

I absolutely LOVE the new look. My favorite types of websites are just like yours is now: clean, simple and pretty, so that I can enjoy the content without being distracted.

I think Caitlin hit all your requirements right on the nose. Gorgeous!

Victoria (District Chocoholic) May 27, 2011 at 10:42 am

I hear you on the overwhelming samples. Most people don’t get it, but you eventually flat-out run out of time to blog about all of it…and I find that I don’t have as much passion for those posts. They feel like obligations at times.

Danielle @ weightsandmeasures May 27, 2011 at 10:41 am

I love your new header! It is so calm and fresh.
