A Practical Solution

by HEAB on June 29, 2011

I am in major need of a pedicure. However, I’m a practical mom now (insert CD laughing here). Guess what costs only a few dollars more than a pedicure, will last much longer, and will cover up my ugly toenails????

I present to you my very first pair of Converse All Stars. Now I can check that one off the list.

I ♥ them.

Jess@HealthyExposures July 2, 2011 at 2:16 pm

I love converse – always have, always will. And yes, will also always wait as long as possible before replacing them. Which means it’s okay if my feet are practically hanging out of them 😛
That said – I love your new shoes!

Kate June 30, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Yay for you, your first pair – certainly a cause for biiiiig celebration.

I’ve had a few pairs over the years – white high-tops as a kid, canary yellow low-tops as a teenager, very sedate grey from Urban Outfitters in 2003 (when I retired them I cut the tongue out as a souvenir…), then back in Australia my then-boyfriend-now-husband bought me hot pink double tongues (but it appears I’m too uncool to know what to do with the double tongue – anyone??) and then last year I got cherry red ones for my birthday because the pink ones are getting a little threadbare.

They remind me of youth and kids and being carefree. I only wish I could wear them to work 🙁

So excited for you!

Lisa June 30, 2011 at 10:18 am

I started using coconut oil in everything! So good!

brandi June 30, 2011 at 10:11 am

yay!!! so exciting 🙂 I miss my Chucks.

nadia June 30, 2011 at 9:32 am

WO hOO~ yeay at last! you deserve it. 🙂

Marissa June 30, 2011 at 9:26 am

I have those same shoes! Brown is my favorite color and I love them… I don’t wear them in summer, though. I’m a barefoot girl in warm weather… I don’t care if my feet look horrendous. 🙂

Amy @ FitMommas June 30, 2011 at 6:10 am

I can see why you love them!

Had my first (and only) pair in high school…20 years ago. I think I might need a pair this fall!

J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) June 30, 2011 at 4:57 am

They look cute on you! My feet are too wide for them. 🙁

Kristen - Anywhere There's An Airport June 30, 2011 at 1:54 am

I am in dire need of a pedicure as well! It is one thing I have yet to do in Madrid! Well, that and getting my haircut. 🙂 I always wait for my trips back to the States.

But I have some new friends and a date for dinner and pedicure next week! I couldn’t be more excited! But that doesn’t mean new converse aren’t in order also 🙂

dea June 30, 2011 at 1:24 am

they’re lovely! i have a pair of converse mary janes, oh love love love. (I have a slight mary jane shoes issue…)
now I want a pedicure. I’m pretty sure I’m due for one!

Marie-Sophie June 30, 2011 at 12:22 am

Congratulations to your first pair of Chucks Converse, Heather!! 🙂 I’ve been wearing Converse since I was 14 years old … so for a solid 14 1/2 years now! Still love them and hate that I chose a profession that does not allow me to wear them to work ;-).

I have a “gum question”, Heather: I am thinking about buying Xantham Gum or Guar Gum … which one should I purchase?? I want to start with one and I would also like to use it in gluten-free baking … any suggestions? Thank you!

HEAB June 30, 2011 at 1:45 pm

I think if you want to use the gums for baking purposes, either one will work. I’ve used just a tee-tiny pinch of guar to thicken up homemade salad dressings, but honestly, I rarely use them in gluten free baking. So, I’m not sure what most recipes call for. I normally use them together in smoothies. Deb wrote a very helpful post about both here: http://smoothiegirleatstoo.blogspot.com/2009/12/saturdaysunday-smoothie-guar-and.html. Hope that helps! 🙂

Kristin @ STUFT Mama June 30, 2011 at 12:00 am

Ha! I love your shoes. And I’m SOOOOO with you on being a “practical mom” and wearing shoes to cover up toes. (Mine were EMBARRASSING until a couple of weeks ago. I forgot what my toes looked like. ha!)

sally kate @themoxiegirl June 29, 2011 at 11:08 pm

i have been LIVING in my toms this summer because i can’t afford a pedicure- they look cute but they start to make your feet stink haha- oops, you win some you lose some 🙂

Lena June 29, 2011 at 10:34 pm

I love converse all stars. i have been wearing them ever. i like your brown ones, they are lovely, i am currently alternating between 2 pairs, wear them almost everywhere i go! love them! glad you like yours too! 🙂

Green Groats June 29, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Aww!! These are super cute. I love the brown.

Monica June 29, 2011 at 9:34 pm

Haha, this is why I bought Toms. 🙂

Bid June 29, 2011 at 9:28 pm

they are very cool… and…i knew you would cave (Con-cave) … 😉

more tomo.. i promise pictures…

Emily @ Comfortable Home Life June 29, 2011 at 9:12 pm

So fun! I need a pedicure too, except maybe I should just buy some TOMS that I’ve had my eye on. Shoes last much longer than a pedicure!

sarah June 29, 2011 at 9:11 pm

I have my original burgundy pair I bought in New Orleans when I was in grade 9 or 10. That’s (cough, cough) over 20 years ago! They’ve walked through high school, marriage, and two kids and I can’t part with them. I understand the love…

ashley June 29, 2011 at 8:41 pm

Love your Chucks!! Aren’t they fun? I am also loving your photos and editing!!! You are doing an amazing job, especially for teaching yourself…your photos are definitely looking pretty : )

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 8:51 pm

Oh wow, thanks Ashley. So much to learn, but I’m trying. It’s a lot of fun.

Katie June 29, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Chucks are better than pedicures by a long shot. They’re not even playing the same game.

Cecilia June 29, 2011 at 8:29 pm

I have a pair of purple Converse. Love them! I get happy just looking at them.

Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner June 29, 2011 at 8:25 pm

I have wanted Converses for a while. Would you suggest them?

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Yep, so far so good. 🙂

Kristin (Cook, Bake, Nibble) June 29, 2011 at 8:14 pm

I LOVE converse…I have seven pairs! I actually have the exact same pair as you, mine are just a little more beat up 😉

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 8:18 pm

That’s the look I’m going for. 😉

michelle June 29, 2011 at 8:01 pm

I do my own manicures and pedicures…it’s how I justify Uggs in every colour 🙂

Jayme @ Runner-n-Spice June 29, 2011 at 7:59 pm

I love them!! The last shoe I bought that kind of fit this description was my red Toms.

katie @KatieDid June 29, 2011 at 7:49 pm

I have the exact same ones and wore them until they were holy. Love them!!

Katherine June 29, 2011 at 7:35 pm

They look awesome!

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) June 29, 2011 at 7:32 pm

Haha…WELCOME! You are finally in our club! I love the brown ones. Too cute. I need to get more since Max has worn mine out!

Ricki June 29, 2011 at 7:16 pm

They are soooo adorable! I’ve never owned a (real) pair, but now I want one. Besides, I’ve never had a pedicure, so I can use the money I saved for my sneaks! 😉

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 8:19 pm

Yes! It’s time. 🙂

Mary @ Bites and Bliss June 29, 2011 at 6:27 pm

I’m in desperate need of a pedicure but still insist on wearing sandals. Not the best choice..but oh well!

Sarah June 29, 2011 at 6:18 pm

Lookin good!! I love the brown color!

Balancing Sylvia June 29, 2011 at 5:58 pm

Those are so cool looking! Did you get your HEAB stamp on the side??? 🙂

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 8:20 pm

Nope, but nothing a little Sharpie won’t fix. 😉

Liz Dean June 29, 2011 at 5:57 pm

Love it!!! I have the same ones in brown…and black…and navy. I can’t get enough of them! 🙂

Mama Pea June 29, 2011 at 5:57 pm

CUTE!!! Come visit and I’ll treat you to a pedicure. Please!

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 8:20 pm

Deal! 🙂

Sarah June 29, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Lookin’ cool.

Ana June 29, 2011 at 5:27 pm

They are beautiful Heather!!! Now I need to get my pair 🙂

Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee June 29, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Wow you’ve never had Converse before?? I’m on my 4th pair in 5 years, I’ve had green plaid, pink plaid (those were gorgeous), plain ol’ gray (classic and classy!) and paint-splattered. 🙂

The Delicate Place June 29, 2011 at 5:05 pm

i do have a soft spot for chucks. it’s complete nostalgia for me! glad you got them, basic black or did you get raisin?

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 8:22 pm

Delicate Place,
Well, I wanted the browns, but DSW only had olive. So, I got those instead. Also really want a pair in charcoal.

Sylvia @ LifeIsGoodWithFood June 29, 2011 at 4:56 pm

I love Converses! Hehe.

I just got a pedicure last weekend; the guy scraping the bottom of my foot looked at me oddly when I started jerking and squealing. Not the best client 😀

Kaci June 29, 2011 at 4:22 pm

I loveeeeeee Converse chucks!! =)

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga June 29, 2011 at 4:17 pm

So glad you got your Cons! I know you had wanted them and yay for life’s little indulgences like new shoes…or pedicures. Shoes are easier to get than pedicures with little ones though! Don’t I know!

I havent had a real pedicure in…..AGES. As in over 1 year. Combination of being cheap and not having the time. But gosh, the foot massages, oh how I miss those!

Lorne June 29, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Awesome :0)

My buddy is my beautician and she has been trying to get me to try a pedicure for some time. I can’t – I just know I’ll kick her in the face and I’ll lose a great buddy!
I am MEGA MEGA ticklish.

Christin@purplebirdblog June 29, 2011 at 4:03 pm

Welcome to the Cool Kids Club, my dear!! 😉 I love them!

Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg June 29, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Haha…I’m still rocking my hot pink converse from college. They are literally falling apart…but I just can’t seem to give them up 🙂

Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn June 29, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Love them!! I’m buying some Toms with my grad monaay 🙂

s June 29, 2011 at 3:58 pm

hip 🙂 and way more fun than nail painting in my opinion anyways. my nail polish always chips off a few days after painting.

ClaireoseC June 29, 2011 at 3:54 pm

Yesssssss! They’re like potato chips can’t buy
Just one pair. Sorry CD ;-)cc

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 4:28 pm

Claire Rose,
Haha, I know. Already eyeing a charcoal gray pair. 😉

Kelly @foodiefresh June 29, 2011 at 3:54 pm

Fun! I want green ones. 🙂

Shay June 29, 2011 at 3:51 pm

A Converse virgin! So glad to see you were cured of that. Welcome to the party!

Mandy June 29, 2011 at 3:49 pm

I am on vacation with Ian, and my husband’s not joining us until Saturday. I have been dreaming of sneaking away for a pedicure, however the family who said they wanted to “help” with the baby doesn’t actually seem to want to really help (only when he’s cute, happy, not spitting up or pooping…), so it looks like mama’s not getting a pedicure any time soon…your shoes are adorable! xo

HEAB June 29, 2011 at 4:27 pm

Buy yourself some new shoes instead. Felt almost as good as some hot towels and a calf massage…almost. 😉

Claire @ Live and Love to Eat June 29, 2011 at 3:48 pm

New shoes are a way better investment than a pedicure!

Eden June 29, 2011 at 3:46 pm

you should see the shoes I put up on my last post! now THOSE are practical!

PS, I can never get pedicures. I’m too tickelish and they look at me like I’m some special needs person when I go get a pedicure.

Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing June 29, 2011 at 3:44 pm

I can definitely see why you <3 them. 🙂 So cute.
