chelsey @ clean eating chelsey July 1, 2011 at 6:56 am

yaaay!!! So funny that she’s going backwards instead of forwards! Love it!

Maggie @ Say Yes to Salad July 1, 2011 at 6:59 am

LOL. She is going to be one spunky, creative girl :)

Her jumper thing says “I <3 almond butter" right?

HEAB July 1, 2011 at 8:50 am

Maggie, yes. It was a gift from Janetha from Meals & Moves. So cute. :)

Baking 'n' Books July 1, 2011 at 3:48 pm

I was going to ask what it said – how cute!

She’s CRAWLING?! Eek! I love her cute “Pebbles” ‘do as well :)

jennifer July 1, 2011 at 7:02 am

GO SUMMER!

Amy @ FitMommas July 1, 2011 at 7:15 am

That may just be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!

Riss July 1, 2011 at 7:22 am

Such a creative post idea, Heather! And can I just say how much I LOVE Summer’s little ponytail!?

HEAB July 1, 2011 at 8:51 am

Riss,
I do too. Love accessorizing her hair which is so surprising b/c I never did anything with mine. They make the cutest little bows and headbands for baby girls now. So fun.

Baking 'n' Books July 1, 2011 at 3:51 pm

My sister has two baby boys – and LOVES them, of course – but does lament not being able to get girly clothes and stuff…but she said she’s done with having any more! I don’t blame here – y’know little boys ;)

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) July 1, 2011 at 7:23 am

Backwards will get you there too! Max never crawled on all fours. He did an army crawl and it was the funniest thing…then he walked!

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga July 1, 2011 at 7:24 am

Oh the pictures are adorable and yes, your life has just gotten really crazy! A baby is one thing. A baby that is MOBILE is an entirely different situation.

Have fun babyproofing this weekend :) I remember the scramble that it is once they can….move!

Nikki July 1, 2011 at 7:25 am

Awww! How cute! The photo series is perfect hehe.

Just wait until she’s up on her feet and running around. ;)

HEAB July 1, 2011 at 8:52 am

Nikki,
I know…kind of scared. ;)

Victoria July 1, 2011 at 7:29 am

beautiful. she’s obviously learning early that there’s no need to fit in with the crowd by crawling forwards :) smart girl you’ve got there!

Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories July 1, 2011 at 7:34 am

She’s so cute, and you’re so creative! Love it! :)

Kimberly July 1, 2011 at 7:37 am

How sweet! My little niece is just starting to crawl too. You will be busy chasing her everywhere! :)

Maryea {Happy Healthy Mama} July 1, 2011 at 7:38 am

Adorable pictures! Go Summer! :-)

Shellie July 1, 2011 at 7:46 am

I’ve read that crawling backward before crawling forward is a sign of genius!!

HEAB July 1, 2011 at 8:52 am

Shellie,
That’s our Summer. ;)

Holly @ The Runny Egg July 1, 2011 at 7:52 am

Summer is so cute — her little hands are the sweetest thing.

LOVE IT!!! This is the beginning of the end…mobility got to love it… good thing you got those sneakers…your gonna need them to chase her down soon!!!

CH July 1, 2011 at 8:48 am

How is she crawling already How, seriously Wasn’t it like last week that you were telling us that you were pregnant. And wasn’t it five minutes ago that you gave birth? I feel like my life has moved unbelievably quickly this year, and Summer’s awesome progress is a reminder of that!

HEAB July 1, 2011 at 8:53 am

CH,
I feel the same way. I can’t believe 2011 is half over and that Summer is 8 months old. When did that happen?!?

WIERDGREENMAN July 1, 2011 at 8:56 am

This post: :)

Victoria (District Chocoholic) July 1, 2011 at 9:03 am

That is AWESOME and your photography setup is the coolest, most creative thing I’ve seen for a while.

katie July 1, 2011 at 9:04 am

Aww, milestone! Haha, so cute. :)

Ana July 1, 2011 at 9:45 am

Oh my, I love those pictures Heather, so clever of you to take it on the blackboard, love, love, love it! Summer is the cutest and the idea is brilliant!
Did I ever tell you that Matheus never actually crawled? He scooted on his belly! He started scooting when he was around 6 1/2 months and that was it, he would go anywhere he wanted looking like a soldier in war, scooting on the belly. He would sit down fine, but never get on all fours and crawl. It was funny to see him scooting. Then when he was about 8 1/2 months old he started pulling himself up on furniture, by 9 1/2 he was walking around when holding onto things (chair, couch), and around 10 1/2 months he started to walk by himself.
Each child is so different. I remember we went to Brazil when Matheus was 9 months and as he would try to walk holding on the things my mom was amazed since she said I only walked after I was a year old.
I have a little video of Matheus scooting, I will find it and send it to you, I had a cute little scooting soldier! :-)
Enjoy this phase, it is a blast to see them move and discover things, I loved when Matheus started scooting, I would see him in a place and then seconds later he was accros the room, they move pretty fast too. Life gets a little crazier but a ton more fun!
Ana

HEAB July 1, 2011 at 10:03 am

Ana,
Yes! Summer will get on all fours but can’t quite go any where, and so she just scoots backwards and sooo fast. Can’t leaver her anywhere now. We need a fenced-in living room. ;) Would love to see the video if you can find it. Good to know you were able to travel well with a little scooter. We’ll be in Michigan soon, and I have a feeling Summer is going to change a lot while we’re gone. Many adventures await us up north I’m sure. :)

Amy @ Elephant Eats July 1, 2011 at 9:51 am

Haha, omg, too cute! Go, Summer, Go!!!

Jess@atasteofconfidence July 1, 2011 at 10:03 am

this is so cute!

nad July 1, 2011 at 10:09 am

aaahh!! I was just thinking of the little cutie… I love that she is already stepping outside the boundaries of the “norm” – the world of forwards crawlers! xoxox

Sarah July 1, 2011 at 10:13 am

Congrats on your little crawler– my sister never crawled, she rolled.

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) July 1, 2011 at 10:20 am

Think of all the calories you’ll burn by chasing that girl! :-)

Liz @ IHeartVegetables July 1, 2011 at 10:24 am

hahaha this is absolutely too cute.

Jess July 1, 2011 at 10:37 am

So cute! How many tries did it take to get her to stay on the board?

HEAB July 1, 2011 at 11:11 am

Jess, we got it on the 2nd try. :)

Jess July 2, 2011 at 1:06 pm

I’m impressed :)

Whitney July 1, 2011 at 10:45 am

Ricki July 1, 2011 at 12:06 pm

Haha! I love the photos! My son did the same backwards crawl for about a month or so before he finally started moving forward. Now he’s like a little freight train…full speed ahead!

Alyssa July 1, 2011 at 12:37 pm

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

(I was a backwards-crawler, as were my kids. Kinda gives you a different perspective on the world, lol!)

helen July 1, 2011 at 12:49 pm

Yay for Summer! Life is more interesting now :)

Tangy July 1, 2011 at 12:56 pm

OMG @ those thighs! haha!

You’ll definitely stay busy, now! The day my daughter learned to crawl was also the day she decided she was ready to climb upstairs!

Tess July 1, 2011 at 1:22 pm

That little body going backwards and pony tail are the cutest thing!!!!!!Thanks for sharing, it brightened my day :)

Erin @ Naturally Addicted July 1, 2011 at 2:04 pm

Sarah Wasserman (swasserman@sir-inc.com) July 1, 2011 at 2:40 pm

I love it!! Hooray, Summer!
I also love her onesie/diaper look — little Julian has been sporting the same look all summer!

Stefanie July 1, 2011 at 2:51 pm

Too cute. It does not matter how you get there, as long as you get there. :D

Salah (My Healthiest Lifestyle) July 1, 2011 at 2:56 pm

So freaking cute!!!!!! Awwww :-)

BethT July 1, 2011 at 3:14 pm

Lucy crawls backwards too! So funny. She also does this swim move where she flails her arms and legs when on her belly…and gets pissed she can’t go anywhere like that!

Jen July 1, 2011 at 3:17 pm

Oh boy, your life is about to get really interesting!!!!

tracey July 1, 2011 at 3:29 pm

that makes me smile. Evelyn can make 1/4 circle turn, but that’s about it. she likes tummy time so i am thankful for that!

Samantha July 1, 2011 at 5:01 pm

So friggin’ cute! Let the chasing begin…

Annie@stronghealthyfit July 1, 2011 at 5:46 pm

Monica July 2, 2011 at 8:09 am

Yay Summer!!!! Get after it!!!

Maren July 2, 2011 at 8:15 am

Happy 4th of July Heather! Have a great weekend!

Georgie July 2, 2011 at 9:08 am

Oh my god thats the cutest thing I have seen in AGES!

She’s going to moonwalk next!!

I could smile and those chubby little thighs all day long. You have the most gorgeous baby I’ve ever seen Heather. Seriously.

:) Great idea with the chalkboard too!

Georgie

elise July 2, 2011 at 2:12 pm

that is so adorable. looks like youre going to be doing a lot more exercising now chasing after your little mover!

Lea @ Healthy Coconut July 2, 2011 at 5:10 pm

That’s is so adorable and I love the pictures.

My niece Jazzy started walking before crawling. But right before she started walking, she would scoot sideways all the time. not forward or backward, but sideways :)

Now, she runs so fast I’m scared to take her to the mall because I might lose her.

michelle July 2, 2011 at 9:15 pm

Wow! You are so creative. My daughter scooched backwards for months, I was worried she’d never look ahead. :)

Kara July 3, 2011 at 5:17 am

We started with backwards crawling and then moved on to log rolling and then eventually army crawling. She army crawled for months before moving to a traditional crawl. Babies are hilarious :)

Susan July 3, 2011 at 2:04 pm

I saw some of these on Facebook and thought they were so cute!!!! Just wait till she’s tumbling around on her two feet ;)

Do babies usually start by crawling backward?

HEAB July 3, 2011 at 9:15 pm

Susan,
Not for every baby, but according to the comments, I think it’s pretty common. She’ll be walking so soon…I can’t believe it.

Glad you’ve been able to get outside and get some fresh air. I know that must have felt amazing. I’ve been thinking about you so much.

Stephanie @ extremebalance.net/blog July 4, 2011 at 2:05 am

That’s awesome! And if you read the post backward, she’s totally crawling forward. ;)

Angel7 July 4, 2011 at 7:26 pm

That is so cute! She will get the hang of it soon :)

Charlotte July 5, 2011 at 3:08 pm

Cutest pictures EVER!!! Just got back from vacay and how fun to see Summer scooting (backwards). None of my kids ever crawled “the right way” at first either.

Dea July 5, 2011 at 11:35 pm

I NEED to have another baby just so I can do this!

Anne Marie@New Weigh of Life July 6, 2011 at 12:52 pm

Oh my goodness….how cute!
