Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
Fun happenings around the blogosphere:
- The Great Fundraising Act raised over $26,000 for Susan’s cancer treatments. WOW! You can read more about the Auction results here and click here to read Susan’s reaction (loved). Again, many thanks to Janetha for organizing and to everyone who contributed. I am truly blown away by the blogging community and grateful to be a part of it.
- Want some feathers? Clare is doing a giveaway for 3 sets of Lofty Locks feather hair extensions, and I have a set to giveaway as well. For a chance to win, simply leave a comment below telling me your best kept hair secret. You can also click here to enter Clare’s giveaway. Edited to Add: The giveaway is over, and a winner has been chosen. Congrats to Wendy Elliot! Wendy, I will email you.
- Casey Lorraine & Lori and Michelle have created Strong Is Sexy, a 4-Week Fitness Challenge that started this week. For the next month, Casey will post workouts every Friday for the following week (click here for this week’s challenges). There will be a suggested workout of the day, including everything from HIIT to yoga to rest. The workouts can all be done at home and are meant to be quick and efficient. Definitely my kind of exercise program, and I’m joining in when I feel like it. However, here in Michigan, the weather is absolutely perfect – cool mornings and evenings with warm days, and I just want to be outside. So, lots of long walks for me this month. BodyRock.TV can wait…besides, I’ve decided I don’t like pain…even if it only lasts for 12 minutes.

Those yummy little baby feet! So cute!
ha! I had to laugh about your bodyrock.tv comment.
I am so in awe of the whole blogging community for helping Susan out! Sadly I didn’t win anything, but I’m so glad for Susan! Uh-mazing. (Still loving your chucks btw!)
A day at the beach looks perfect!!
I’m not really into pain either. I’d rather mow my lawn.
That foot picture is too cute. No really. Stop it.
i can’t wait to hear what you think of bodyrock. it’s seriously changed my body in 3 months. i’ve been kickboxing lately and that is proving so difficult i can only do it 2x weekly! it’s pretty much insane.
That’s so interesting. I’ve never even heard of it before…I’m with you though Heather – when it’s nice out, I’d rather be out and just strolling…or trying to find a beach! So relaxing!! I love that you embrace the holidays – do you guys only take them during the summer time?
Eeek – baby feet!!
LOVE Summer’s feet. So freakin cute
.
I have never liked HIIT before either but loving these Bodyrock workouts. So good and yes hard! Love the yoga and cardio and rest an awful lot though too
Looks like a perfect lovely beach day.
Love that top photo!
love those baby feet…
don’t need to be entered in this drawing.. but…
Best kept hair secret..??? I use my show dog conditiaoner on MY hair, when i want it to be very shiny…

Summers feet are sooo tiny and cute
I have a weird obsession with baby feet
..dont judge me!
Brittany,
After reading through my comments, trust me you are not alone. Baby feet seem to be quite popular.
Summer’s feet are so cute!!! What an adorable picture. Are you going to get her a small pair of Chucks too?
Holly,
Of course!
oh my goshhhhhhh- that last picture is so cute!
summers feet, so joyful and fun! I still can’t believe thats a beach. Crazy!
and all that fun in the blogsphere, good stuff! Makes my day!
LC
The first time I watched BodyRock.TV on YouTube, I didn’t realize it was a real thing! I thought it was just some crazy girl who like to torture herself
Nicole,
Haha, I completely understand. That girl is intense!
My super hair secret? Stop washing it so much! I shampoo once a week, max. Your hair adjusts and is healthier, stronger, and shinier than ever. Buy a shower cap
Summer’s toes made me smile!
Thanks for the heads up on some goings-on that I wasn’t aware of!
Oh, those adorable little feet!!!!!
I’ve tried BodyRock TV workouts.
Owie!
I’m also not a huge fan of HIIT workouts. I’m just too lazy.
Lots of great stuff happening and the TGFA was amazing!!
Ahhhhhhhhh baby Feet!!! Cutest pic ever, what is possibly more cute than baby feet?!!!
Yay for Michigan! I’m all about walks when it’s nice as well, except for the fact it’s raining and 90 right now. But normally, yay for Michigan!
I have total beach envy!
My hair secret – olive oil treatments! Once a week, about 30 minutes before washing my hair, I rub in some olive oil into my scalp and the tips of my hair. I wash as usual and my hair is super shiny and soft.
Baby feet! I could eat them up
oooh the beach without the ridiculous florida heat & humidity!
best kept hair secret – going to bed with wet hair + mousse = perfect curls
My best kept hair secret isn’t so secret, really, but reliable! Dirty hair styled messily under a straw fedora is a guaranteed compliment generator – despite having not showered in 3 days! Muahahahah!
Best hair secret is definitely getting the Keratin treatment! It makes blow drying super easy and my hair is silky straight with minimal effort. Organix also makes a fabulous Brazilian Keratin and Moroccan Oil shampoo/conditioner – even without the treatment, it’s a well priced way to stay shiny locked.
Those feet! Those Chucks! Oh my, I’m totally jealous of where you are right now.
I love Summer’s feet sticking out! soooo cute!
I wish I had a best kept hair secret!!
Love the last picture of Summer’s feet!
Looks like you guys are having a good time.
My hair secret is that I don’t know much about hair…and rely on hair-dresser-friend to tell me what to do.
Doing a big workout with a huge group of people from the blog world would be fun.
I am so happy that we raised all that money for Susan!
Moroccanoil is my not so secret hair secret! A little goes a long way and makes my thin, frizzy hair gorgeous!
Oh those little baby toes!!!!!! I want to wiggle each and every one of them
My best kept hair secret- I switched to super cheap shampoo/conditioner and haven’t noticed a difference! Saving money, looking good
Best secret: i let my hair air dry almost every day to keep it looking healthy with minimal breakage! My kids would never nap outside of their cribs either…sigh…
Baby feet! Ahhhhh, so perfect! I know I’m going to see that photo in my head when I do Happy Baby pose…and smile.
My hair secret is to NOT wash everyday (after 48 hours, however, I start to feel a little too “au naturel”). When my old hairdresser told me that you can wash your hair too much, I knew he was obviously crazy…and had no appreciation for how much I like to sweat! Now, If my hair’s looking funky or bed-heady, I just rinse it when I shower and start all over.
Ha! hair secret? My hair is not that great….It is thin and flat. But for those who have thin and flat hair-chop it off! I love it short, and it looks so much better now…..And to those people who keep asking me where I get my highlights-go outside!!!! Sit in the sun!
Oh, gosh. That picture of summer’s feet is too cute!
My best hair secret – I started doing my own color at home, no one even knows that it is not professional
How stinkin’ cute are those little feet poking out of the play pen. LOVE!
Hmm best kept hair secret: Don’t underestimate the power of keeping up with a trim ever few months. I’m one to not get hair cuts that often, but when I do try to make it in ever few months, my hair just seems to grow better, and look happier.
I always wish I’d be one of those who do not need to shampoo often, but, I just end up a grease ball if I try that.
OMG, Summer’s feet dangling in the air, soooooo adorable!! Love that pic.
my best kept hair secret is putting olive oil on my ends. Helps keep them hydrated!
Legit just yelled OH MY GOD, when I saw those precious little feetsies. Just made my day
Ohmygoodness – that pic of those chubby little baby feet sticking out is SO CUTE! Do you just love kissing those little toes? Baby toes are the best!
Charlotte,
YES! I’m obsessed with her hands too. Can’t stop smooching.
ah, ha, ha….I laughed out loud at Summer’s little feet, and her “sort of” napping!!! So cute…
I wish I knew! This is the first year (at 40 years old) I’ve had highlights, and I think my hair is much more dry now. I wish I knew a secret for dry hair! My mom used to put mayo in her hair!!!
That picture of Summer’s feet is priceless!
Great job on the Great Fundraising Act!
Thanks also for posting the info about the workout challenge. I can’t wait to try it out.
The fundraising just has blown my mind!! It’s been so awesome!!
The little feet are precious!!! Aww, I want to kiss those little toes!
Best kept hair secret = don’t wash it every day. And really, the longer you can go, the better. Natural oils are a great thing for hair! I only wash mine every 3rd day generally.
Oh my god, that picture of Summer’s feet. I am dying. Too cute for words. Man, I want a baby so badly! But right now, I’m occupied enough just taking care of my kitten. Haha!
My best hair secret is not washing it every day. This means shorter showers, less water usage and healthier hair
My best hair secret is that I don’t shower every day… hardly!
What a fun workout challenge! Love the cute feet
I have a habit of twirling my hair and for some reason my hair holds it so my ponytail ends up looking barbie-ish (and sort of silly).
The point is — you have no idea how many compliments I get on it. So silly.
Hmmm… I’m not very good with hair, but my tips is that everyone looks best with their natural haircolor. Yes, I’ve found that out the hard way… surprisingly enough to my 16 year old self, Sun-In orange is NOT a good look on me, or anyone else for that matter!
look at those little ankles
So adorable! It amazes me that they were able to raise that much money!! That’s so awesome
Have fun in Michigan!
So glad you are enjoying your trip! Summer has the cutest little feet! I can’t wait to see my little nugget’s feet! Yay!
Best kept hair secret….
I use to buy dog brushes to try to get through my mane. (**I have broken more than 7 brushes in my life…including men’s and dogs’**) Now I just let it be. put a little cream in it and voila!
yep. having curls galore is such a chore
It takes chickens years and years and years to develop the feathers being used for hair extensions. As I’m sure you can imagine, it’s become pretty lucrative to “farm” chickens for these feathers. Meaning once a chicken’s feathers have been taken, it is more cost-effective to dispose of that chicken than wait around for it to grow some more pretty feathers.
I know you’re not vegan or vegetarian, but it really bums me out that you’re promoting such a cruel industry.
Darcie,
I did not know this. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I’ve contacted Lofty Locks to ask them how they get the feathers for their hair extensions.
My hair care secret is avoiding heat products (curling iron, flat iron, hairdryer) as much as possible! Keep those split ends at bay!
In Michigan which lake were you visiting? I was at Lake Huron on Thursday! We were staying near Tawas City. There were bugs everywhere!!!!
My hair secret is to drizzle shine serum onto my comb right after my shower while my hair’s still wet and then comb my hair through. It leaves my hair super shiny and smooth and soft!!
Maria,
We’re near Lake Michigan, but headed up to Lake Huron this weekend. Hope the bugs are gone by the time we get there!
All you were missing is a Corona in that first photo…and those baby feet, just edible.
My hair’s naturally curly (ok, closer to naturally frizzy, but it’s very textured and holds curls well), and believe me, I’ve gotten my hair routine down to a science. I’d say my biggest hair secret is that I go to bed with wet hair–I put in product, scrunch my curls, use a hair towel, and then wrap it up in a turban and go to bed. In the morning, my hair’s generally mostly dry and relatively frizz-free!
Susie
Someone else mentioned a similar method. Must try this!
Oh look at those cute feet!
you are too funny.
so cute. i’m coming to nashville around the 13th of august.. don’t know if you will be home yet, but if you are, let’s eat mas tacos.
Best kept hair secret(s)…Okay I have two!
1. Wash once every other or every third day…the less I wash my hair, the better it is!
2. This might sound silly, but being pregnant! When I was pregnant, my hair was awesome! soft, shiny, strong. Loved it!
Wow- my best friend’s father is suffering from cancer and that is so wonderfully touching. Its amazing how generous people are when it goes to a great cause.
It looks like a marvelous day for the beach too! Hope Summer didn’t try to eat any sand
Kayla,
Haha – no, no sand eating, but Summer did keep digging in it with her hands. She was totally intrigued.
So glad the auction went well! What a success!
Not exactly a secret but I keep the length of my hair long enough that I can braid it and get it out of my way. Looks dressy if I’m going someplace nice but really it is just a way not to have to deal with it. Can’t handle it short and always having to get it cut and trimmed. I’m too cheap. Wack it once in the spring and once in the fall!
I never thought I’d be a hippy but the best thing I ever did for my hair was to ditch regular shampoo and all its chemicals! My scalp and hair are so much healthier for it.
Summer’s feet…cutest thing ever!
Another fun happening around the internet…The Pinterest Challenge. Some crafty ladybloggers have challenged the rest of us to turn a “pin” into a weekend project. They’ll reveal all the results next Tuesday. I can’t decide which pin to start with!
http://bread-n-chocolate.blogspot.com/2011/07/can-i-pinterest-you-in-craft-challenge.html
Kate,
Oh my gosh, the hours I could (& have) spent on Pinterest. If only we had wi-fi here in MI. I’m limited to about 1 hour of Internet time a day at the local library. Such a cool challenge, and hopefully they will do it again. Would love to participate!
Love your pics, especially Summer’s adorable toes!
Would love to win the feathers, they are so fun. No secret, but I do try to let my hair air dry as much as possible, quick blow dry and adore what my flat iron can do… simply amazing.
I don’t brush my hair everyday. I would like to blame it on being a crazed law school student but really I have always been lazy about combing it out. My hair is long and curly and looks awesome when untamed so it helps me get way with my bad habit. Or at least that is how I justify it.
I don’t have a best-kept hair secret, I’ve worn my hair pretty much the same way for years and years. I wash & condition it every day and damage it by blow-drying and using the straightener. I LOVE the feather extensions and how they’re maintenance-free. They’re so cool!
awwww those feet are too presh!
hair “secret”: let it be natural, natural usually works best on people in so many things, especially hair
I don’t have any great hair secrets, but I will say that I don’t blow dry mine that often, and even when I do, I try to let it air dry as much as possible first (for example, shower/wash hair, then eat breakfast, read blogs, pack my bag, etc.) before I blow dry it, and I rarely blow dry it more than about 80% dry then (I seriously shoot it with a blow dryer for less than 5 mins.). Not much of a secret, but that’s all I got!
