Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
My Chucks and I haven’t ventured out much because it has been raining non-stop for 48 hours. Ask CD, I am not a happy girl without sunshine in my life. I thrive on vitamin D. Anyway, we did brave the nasty weather for a Hood To Coast team reunion (Long live Chasing D.B. Cooper - our team name back in 2005). Thankfully, there was a screened-in porch.
There were also appetizers…

I love blue tortilla chips so much, and this was the BEST tomatillo salsa I’ve ever had. It’s made here in Nashville and sold at Whole Foods…cue the cringe from CD. I can’t seem to find a website – probably because I can’t recall the name – Toni’s or something? Anyway, I know what the jar looks like, and it will be mine.
There was a random salad contributed by me…

Spinach, almonds, chopped prunes, goat cheese, drizzle of tahini miso dressing (3 TBSP tahini, 1 tsp miso, 2 tsp maple syrup, water to thin).
There were burgers…

There was a stare down contest mediated by a fairy…

Good food. Good friends. Good times.
Happy Chuck Taylor Tuesday!

I usually need sun but today I really enjoyed the rain! I am so happy it’s getting to be fall-like.
Mmmm salsa. “Brooklyn Salsa” is my favorite brand. It is super expensive but I stock up when there’s a sale.
It’s been raining cats and dogs here in WNC. Our rivers are about to rise out of their banks. I’m hoping it stops so I can take the kids on a run tomorrow. Being in the house for 3 days will do things to your mind.
Lindsay,
Oh my gosh, yes! I think that’s why it’s been so hard. There was not a day in Michigan when we did not get out for a walk, if not two. So, being inside all day with a 10 month old crawling all over the place can be challenging. We both need our fresh air!
The tomatillo salsa looks amazing and yes, I know you have a thing for blue chips. Really though, party food, chips + dips/salsas of any kind are just…mandatory.
Many times WF’s has regionally distributed foods and you can’t get them other places or at other WF’s even. A friend of ours gets the BEST hummus at her WF’s in San Fran and even though I have to watch my bean intake, I will go hog wild on that hummus b/c it’s that good…and we can’t get it in San Diego.
Cute fairy and kiddos
My chucks haven’t gone out much either! I’m a flower, I need sunshine to grow! Sounds like you had a great gathering with friends! Enjoy the last of your Tuesday my friend!
Team Chasing D.B. Cooper? That is AWESOME!
Amber, have you read that book that just came out D.B. Cooper? Skyjack by Geoffrey Gray? I just finished it – fascinating!
No, I haven’t! I’m going to have to check that out. I’m a big D.B. Cooper fan. Well, I mean, a fan of his LEGEND, more so than HIM.
I feel you completely, Heather! I feel like I’m a vehicle that thrives on vitamin D
Love the stare-down picture, too cute and too funny
I have to avoid WF right now because my budget is really suffereing. Hope the rain stops for all of us soon!! Looks like it will be here until Friday for us.
Summer is so cute in the last pic — I just love her pigtails!
I haven’t been to WF in over a year. My bank account (and Jason) is happy about that!
Holly,
CD is happy about my lack of trip to Whole Foods as well. It’s amazing how much our grocery bill dropped when I stopped going there.
I’m scared for this winter. I haven’t been in the midwest for winter for a decade. Four months of sunless weather….I’m going to die.
Katie,
Honestly, I’m scared for you.
Haha I too adore that staredown pic. Such an intent gaze, cute. Hope you get some sunshine your way soon!
Is Summer sporting ponytails? Adorable!
Mama Pea, Yes. Her hair is out of control, and if we don’t put it up everyday, it just hangs in her eyes. I have so much fun styling it, but no more hair accessories – she’s learned to pull them right out.
Cutest. Staring. Contest. EVER!!!!!!
I just wrote down that salad dressing recipe like my life depended on it! I love anything miso, but miso + maple syrup sounds like perfection. I will be trying it tomorrow!
Candy,
I finished off what was left atop some oat bran. Sounds weird, but I LOVED it!
All of the food looks so yummy. It’s been raining here for days, too, but I sort of like it. It’s great sleepy weather. Bad for being outside and driving, but better than hot humid days in the office.
Ugh, I definitely know how you feel! The weather forcast for NJ has rain all week!
Oh my goodness – you want rain – come here! (oh no wait – you don’t want rain – nobody does!)
Also WF prices here are INSANE. My friend bought a tiny tub of salad for £11 – thats about $25 to you I believe.
On a more positive note I just remembered about you asking for the fro yo recipe aaaaaaaaaages ago and I totally forgot. Basically – this is going to be an anticlimaz – there is no recipe. Louis bought me an ice cream maker last xmas (yay!!) and i just put some greek fro yo and honey to taste n there…. its SO GOOD. worth the ice cream maker cost for the fro yo savings alone.
xxxxxxxx
I mean I put Greek Yogurt in there – not greek fro yo. That would be only be necessary for people who require their desserts be really EXCESSIVELY frozen… xx
Emmy,
That’s it? Oh my gosh, how easy, and I happen to have an ice-cream maker. So making this one of these days. Thank you!
Its Toneys Naturals salsa! He also sells it at the East Nashville farmers markets on Wednesdays fyi
and makes cheese spreads, chocolates, and tons more….all equally delish as the tomatilla salsa!
website is http://www.toneysnaturals.com/ – enjoy!
MC,
THANK YOU. That’s why I couldn’t find the website – I was spelling Toney’s name wrong. He makes chocolates too? Oh my, I must get myself to the farmer’s market and soon!
Your salad dressing sounds yummy!
What a cute picture of the kids too!
That salsa looks delicious! Chips and salsa are something I never tire of!
Miso is one of those ingredients that always stumps me. I can’t wait to try this salad dressing.
Inquiring minds want to know who won the contest?!
Hope the sun is shining now!
Sam,
Yes, it’s been beautiful here in Nashville all week, and Summer of course won the stare down. She’s got CD’s competitive spirit.
