Supplies needed:
- Wooden frame (got mine at Michael’s for $.99.)
- Various colors of tissue paper cut into squares
- Craft glue or any glue that will dry clear
- Acrylic paint
- Gloss. I used this one.
- Water for thinning paint and glue
- Paint brush
- Wooden letters
- Hot glue gun
Directions:
Dilute a little glue with the water, and using your paint brush + water/glue mixture, paint over a layer of tissue paper squares directly onto the frame. Allow to dry.
Next paint over your tissue paper with diluted acryllic paint. I really had to water down the pink because it was super dark, and I wanted the tissue paper to show through the paint layer. After it dries, add more tissue paper with with the glue mixture.
After completely dry, flip the frame over and paint the back and sides with the acrylic paint, and once that dries, hot glue some painted wooden letters to the front of the frame, and finish off with a coat of clear gloss.
You can leave off the letters if you like, or another fun idea for a baby shower gift (especially if you don’t know the gender of the baby) is to use primary colored tissue paper and glue animal crackers around the edge. You’ll need to shellac the frame after adding the cookies, but the extra step is well worth it. Such a cute finished product.

I love how I bet we ALL know who this is going to…!
Awww, that’s so nice! I’m sure Gina is going to love it. Great job, Heather! I love it.
Very artsy-crafty! I am probably the most un-creative person, ever, but I have a running list of things I’ve seen on Pinterest that I am dying to try!
Tangy,
Me too. Can’t stop pinning.
I bet I know who that is being sent to!!
You are soooo crafty, Heather!
So sweet of you.
And it is really funny, bc I saw all the pink and was like “Gina would love that” until I read “Olivia”
What a great idea and SO pretty! Gina will absolutly love that! (I’m sure you’ve heard that one before
)
Aww, what a great frame and idea and little Olivia will love to hear the story one day about the blogger connection and who and how that frame came to be. And of course Gina will love it…perfect color choice, too
Gina is going to love this! How cute.
That’s so sweet of you to make a gift! Homemade gifts always mean so much!
And it’s pink…too cute!
Aw, how perfect!
Perfect! She will love it
awww I know who this is for!!! it’s BEAUTIFUL! I love this idea!
So pretty and pink!
Cute! I love the pink.
Just read your post below about “permission”. Great post and thank you for sharing. Yes, I always say that anytime you are preceding something with “I should….” – then it’s time to stop and re-evaluate why it is you “should” do something and who is making you feel that way. Then, do what YOU WANT to do
…well, within reason
Oooh, this looks perfect! I have a bunch of teachers with new babies, so I need to get making this!
I love homemade gifts, especially for babies. So fun to look back at all the things from your childhood that your parents’ friends and family members made for you. Olivia is a lucky babe already!
Looks so pretty Heather! You are definitely talented on your craft projects!
Oh, and the previous post about giving yourself permission is lovely. I am like you, a total people pleaser, and even though I am happy when I make/see my loved ones happy, I sometimes do end up forgetting about my own self and get disappointed on not fulfilling some of my needs.
I agree with so much you wrote on that post, it was truly inspirational!
Ana
Look who is crafty! Fun!
