While filling out my Workbook and Planner,
I got stuck on the page regarding my word for the year. One word for the whole year?!? There are so many words that describe what I hope for in 2012.
I thought about Goddess Leonie’s You Have Permission Post. Have you read it yet? Such wise words and really made me think about taking care of myself more often.
I’m also reading through Proverbs this month, and the verses that really spoke to me more than anything were the ones about being quiet and listening, such as, The one who knows much says little; an understanding person remains calm (17:27) and Wise men and women are always learning, listening for fresh insights. (18:15).
I tend to talk a lot, but this year, I want to listen more. Therefore, I’ve decided that…
I want to experience and focus on being quiet…at least for the next 6 months as I have a feeling our house is going to get really loud come July.
So, this morning the whole family enjoyed a quiet walk together. It felt so good to get outside, soak up some fresh air, and just be. Love spending quiet time together as a family.
Here is the fun post Goddess Leonie wrote about choosing her word for the year. What is yours?

Hope. Excitement. Adventure-dreams. Faith [in myself, in a glowing future].
Yes, I totally just cheated, but I figure you can’t blame me because I stopped taking Maths at the end of Year 11.
Hannah,
Nothing wrong with having several words, especially these in particular.
I can’t even articulate how lovely you two are. There are so many people who cannot live in silence, which is so sad, because silence restores — excellent pick for the year!
Thanks Holly, and I agree. Too much noise in our lives these days!
u and summer are too cute! And as other commenters have said, silence is such an important part of life. Being able to just be and reflect on life is such a fulfilling experience. Good luck to you!
I know I say this on every post but I can’t get over how beautiful Summer is and looking SO much like you these days.
Thanks Katie.
What a great word choice! I’m stuck on that page too. I like ‘settle’ as in ‘be settled in every situation, place, station’ but then it makes me think of ‘settling’ so still searching…
Summer is such a doll and you look more beautiful with every photo you post!
love all your posts, HEAB. I always take something positive away from your blog.
Thanks Cate. That makes me happy.
Wow is that Summer? She is SO grown up and still has those beautiful blue eyes! I’m considering purchasing the goddess workbook; do you find that it has helped you a lot? My biggest life change right now is maintaining my recovery from an eating disorder and I’m wondering if it could help.
Hi Alex,
Yes, that is Summer. She’s looking like such a little girl now – no more baby face. Where did the time go?!? Anyway, yes, the workbook is great. This is my third year to use it. First off, I love Leonie’s artwork. It just makes me happy to flip through it and fill out the pages. Plus, it really makes you think about what you hope to accomplish for the year, and I love hanging my favorite pages around my workspace so that I can see them every day. Highly recommend it as I really think it could help with your recovery.
Beautiful post! I think many people could benefit from finding more quiet and less busy-ness, probably myself included. My word for the year would have to be “persistence.”
I can’t believe how fast Summer has grown up!
Greta,
Me neither! Love your word too.
LOVE Proverbs! I am starting James tomorrow…I can’t wait.
And if I had to pick a word for the year, I think it would have to be “faith”. ♥
You two are such cuties…I can’t believe how big Summer has gotten!
Liz,
Faith – always a good choice, and yeah, where did my little baby go????
that is a GREAT choice!! I love the picture! Summer is getting so big!
What a great word to choose. I find often as a parent I talk too much…and even when I am saying to myself, Stop talking, I keep talking. I am going to keep this in mind…thank you.
I just started reading “The Happiness Project”, which takes different things to work on month-by-month. Right now I’m working on going to bed earlier
Summer is gorgeous – those eyes! Lovely photo of you with your baby girl.
~Rebecca
Thanks Rebecca,
I’m trying to get to bed at a decent hour myself. It’s a challenge b/c evern though Summer goes to be early, that’s when I try to fit in all the stuff I didn’t get to do during the day, and I also need a little me time, and somewhere in there, I like to see my husband. So, yeah, trust me, I get it, but we can do it. Our bodies need rest. So important!
I like Quiet! That’s a good one! Mine is “embrace”. I am going to make an effort to embrace every moment I have during the planning of my wedding. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress and the materialism, but I’m bound and determined to embrace each moment and realize how lucky I am!
Maren,
I love it – perfect word for you this year, and good luck with all the wedding planning. HAVE FUN with it.
Simplify is my word this year. My goal is to simplify to create time and space for the people and things I love most! I really should purchase the workbook for myself. Thanks for the link Heather.
Jamie,
Good one!
What great verses to focus on Heather… they all speak volumes to me.
Wow, Summer is turning into a little girl so quickly… ain’t no baby any more! Just beautiful.
My word for this year is focus… before becoming a Mum, I was never able to do this, and now for some reason (probably honing my multi taking skills) I can! I have a few projects that I intend to put my all into this year, and focus is going to be key.
Lou, I hear ya. I’ve definitely learned to use my time more wisely this past year!
Summer is a little girl! She’s not a baby…at all. WOW!!! She’s growing up by the week, the DAY, it seems.
You two are beautiful and quietness, stillness, calmness, and peace…I am a fan. In fact, without those things, balanced with the rest of life, I am a mess!
Hey Proverbs buddy.
I’m thinking my word for 2012 will be “FREE.” To not live with any restriction, pressure, expectation or demands–>self-imposed or otherwise.
I love how fearlessly you are blogging lately. It is so inspiring.
Hi bud,
Free – love it. Good choice Mama Pea.
I think I want my word of the year to be breathe. To me it symbolizes to take a minute, and relax before I react. To become connected to my body and soul… Appreciate every moment and breath I get to take, as every breath is a blessing.
I have to agree with the other posters that I love your posts recently! Especially the one where you announced your great news! I missed the comment posting window on it, but I am So VERY happy for the HEAB family! Congrats!
Thanks so much Nikki, and breathe is a great choice!
Yay! I always hope there’s a picture of Summer, she is the cutest kid.
I love those proverbs, especially the first. Maybe “experience” as my word — I’m hoping 2012 brings a lot of new exciting things to try/see!
Positivity!
“Be still and know God.”
My favorite.
And, Summer is definitely looking like her Mom every day! CD too, just can’t place my finger on what of each of you. Your twins are going to be…a lovely addition to a loving family. Xoxo
First: congratulations to the whole family!
Second: I found it a difficult task as well but I think I’ll choose the word Love. My goal for this year is to learn to love myself and to focus on what I love to do and the people I love.
Thanks Lisa. Love – something we could all focus on more. Good choice.
I think this is the cutest picture of Summer yet. So beautiful – she looks so much like you (and your hubby, of course). There’s so much warmth in this picture!
Thanks Sarah.
“JOY” is my word for the year… as a mom of 15 and 23 yr old boys (um, men LOL)… one about to start driving, one about to get married, I need to find “JOY in the journey”…word
oh, and my boys’ “signature verse” is from Proverbs (17:17)… “a friend loves at all times, but a brother is born for adversity”…they have matching dog tags that say it, it’s on my youngest son’s letter jacket and they have a plan to get matching tattoos some day…
This is great, Heather! I’ll have to thumb through proverbs again….lately I’ve been focusing on Psalms…all of that book is like beautiful songs
Oh! I forgot this:
If I chose a word for the year…hmmmmm…Courage. I have a ton of changes coming up this year, and I want to make sure I dive in face first and make the best of it!
Alex,
Courage – I like it. It’s going to be an exciting year for you – I can just feel it.
Mine is “Light” be light in the way I eat, be a light in the lives of my loved ones, take situations lightly, light light light, I hope it works as beautifully as it does in my head!
Allison,
Me too – lovely choice!
QUIET is such a beautiful choice! I’m going with FULFILLMENT. To me that means being grateful for all that is already in my life, as well as courageously working towards making my dreams come true! Love the Goddess Guidebook- thank you so much for introducing Goddess Leonie to me!
Laura Lyn,
Oh, I’m so happy to hear it. Love Leonie, and I love your word.
I love love LOVE this!!! My word for the year is PRACTICE. It has so much meaning for me in yoga, massage, and my life right now.
Oh wow, Heather! I’ve been away too long. I started a new job this year and have been drinking from the firehouse for the past 3 weeks. No time to keep up with my blogs. I am so happy for you and the family. Congratulations! So exciting! I pray you get your quiet now and also later when the twins are here (at least here and there, quiet pockets). I have an alarm in my BlackBerry to read Proverbs – every night at 9pm it goes off for the last 4 months….and I still haven’t done so. I’ve decided that I won’t read for recreation (not that I have time) until I honor my goal of reading Proverbs first. Too easy to snooze/cancel and go to bed but I really want to do this. Thanks for inspiring me to follow through. You and Summer look beautiful!
Thanks so much Nolita and congrats on the new job! Your phone alarm makes me smile – so something I would do. My goal was to read a chapter a day throughout January, but I usually end up catching up every 3 or 4 days. Priorities – I never can sort them out!
My word for the year is NOW. I know if taken out of context, that seems a bit demanding, but I’ll explain. For the past several years I’ve been tossing over in my mind what I really want to do with my life. I think I’ve discovered my true passion/calling/whathaveyou, but I’ve just been too scared to take the leap and do it. I have finally decided that now is the time to live the life I want. Not next year. Not ten years down the road. NOW. It’s amazing the great strides I’ve been able to make in the short time since I finally got over the fears and the “what ifs”.
Huge congratulations on the twins! How exciting. You better enjoy the quiet while it lasts.
Thanks Angie, and yes, take the leap. Do it now! So exciting.
I love the idea of having a word for the year. By the way, you and Summer both have such beautiful blue eyes!
Thanks Ann-Claire.
