Hello my almond butter loving friends. If you're new to HEAB, you may like to subscribe to my RSS feed or receive my posts via email. Thanks for reading!
Because I’m sure none of you have encountered anything heart or loved-themed today…
So how about some True Love Grits?
Or perhaps some sourdough waffles instead?
I have a heart-shaped waffle maker (Thanks again Tiffany!), and so breakfast on Valentine’s Day is a no brainer. Eden sent me the waffle recipe. It’s her favorite, which says a lot since she eats everything.
I made it using my sourdough starter, but instead of all purpose flour subbed 1/2 brown rice flour, 1/2 gluten free all purpose flour so that the HEABlet could partake. (We haven’t introduced wheat into her diet yet). Anyway, the waffles were delicious, but the texture was a bit off. Need to refine this one a bit. However, butter and maple syrup cover all wrongs, no? Oh, and you must try Eden’s recommended apple cider syrup. I simply added 1 tsp apple cider vinegar to about a TBSP of maple syrup. It paired really well with the sourdough flavor. Good call Eden! Dessert was a Dove dark chocolate. Kind of obsessed with those little squares these days.
Happy ♥ Day!
P.S. Thanks to everyone who voted for my Love Letter on Facebook yesterday!

mmmm Gimme those waffles
mmmm Gimme those waffles
love the sounds of that syrup- a little tart and sweet. Cute breakfast ideas… mine was a very unromantic omelet but i love eggs so it all works.
Katie,
Eggs will always make my heart happy.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Heabie! Surprisingly I have yet to eat something heart-inspired today. Hmm…can Doritos be arranged into a heart?
I didn’t realize the love letter thing was a contest (I thought you were just really enthusiastic about the company!). I’ll check it out now and give you my vote.
Lara,
I do really love their granola, but yeah, my Love Letter was a contest entry. Winner receives a spa pedi…and my toes could totally use some lovin’!
love the heart shaped waffles. before you know it you’ll be making tons of them for the whole heablet clan! hope you are feeling well! happy love day to you
Thanks Felicia! I know, CD and were discussing just this the other day when between the two of us, we polished off an entire dish of enchiladas…and soon, I will need to make enough to feed five rather than just two. I really need a double oven.
This post makes me think Oscars – are you getting excited for this year’s show?
Abby,
I am so behind on movies, and it makes me really sad. I have seen ZERO of the best nominees.
I want that waffle maker!
Mary,
It can be yours: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A3PBWO/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000R3JQH8&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1P1GMHYCGWJ7QVYEPWR4.
Wait, is your starter gluten free? I need that one! The waffles look amazing! I hope you are having a great Valentines Day with the loves in your life!
Sarena,
Not sure. If yeast and instant potato flakes are gluten free, then yes!
The apple cider syrup sounds delish! A little tart with the sweet…yum.
And baking/cooking with GF flours can be tricky. Gritty or strange textures or things that don’t fully rise or rise too much…yeah, it’s an art! But your waffles LOOK perfect and I bet taste awesome.
And the heart shaped jelly…too cute
Averie,
The syrup was delish, and yeah, the waffles looked good, but they were floppy rather than crisp on the outside – like a good Belgian waffle should be. Will keep working on it.
Will be trying cider vinegar today. Little is home (for the 3rd day, fever just broke this morning) and I promised him pancakes. Maybe we’ll switch it to waffles, he’ll be so happy!
It’s so awesome that you get around to so many recipes from the blog world. We go through a lot (try to do 3+ new recipes on the meal plan per week) but there’s just SO MANY!
Feel better soon Little! And yes, so many recipes, so little time.
This might be a silly question, but the HEABlet is still Summer, right? Is there a cute moniker for the ones you’ve got cookin’ … like HEABtwins …? Well, maybe not – i’m sure you can come up with something better!
Jennie,
Hehe, yes, HEABlet still = Summer. I know I’ve shared her name plenty of times with you guys, but sometimes, I just feel weird splashing her name all over the Internet. No nicknames for the twins yet – we just keep calling them “The Twins”.
Looking at that melted butter on the waffles is making my stomach growl!
I want some heart shaped waffles!
) < that's a double chin smiley, because that's what happens if you eat as many waffles as my tummy wants to
Happy Valentines Day, Heather!
Liz,
)
Haha, love the double chin.
—Omg,
Those grits look DeeeLish
i love the movie true grit

I just found apple maple syrup today. What a good usage for it.
Happy V-day.
I love the heart shaped waffles! I wanted to get a waffle maker like that, but never did .. Happy Valentines Day!

Pure2Raw,
Yes you do, and you would LOVE that syrup.
Adorable! Happy Valentines day!
Heather,
That looks delicious!
I am still trying figure what to write about for my new blog…
Any suggestions?
Chris
Chris,
Write about your life. That’s what I do. Seems to be working.
Happy Valentine’s Day Heather!!
I’ve been meaning to ask you, HEAB, what you think about gluten. It’s getting a lot of press these days, what with the rise of Celiac’s disease, and this makes me wonder if gluten might be a bad idea, even for those of us who are not intolerant. Do you avoid gluten personally?
Scates,
Honestly, I don’t know – I’ve read so much conflicting info regarding gluten. I love experimenting with various gluten free flours as CD is not a fan of gluten, and we don’t give it to Summer. However, my body seems to handle it okay. If anything, I try to stick to unrefined foods and soak my grains when I remember, and I will opt for gluten free when given the option. That being said, I love going out for pizza, gluten and all.
